Does anyone else wish people would stop looking towards meteors, etc, for the end of the world?
Damn it people, if the earth could somehow pump the force of gravity up a few notches for a couple seconds, we'd all be FUBAR. Then there's the sun, which if it had just the right kind of solar flair in the right direction, BOOM, all eletronics would be FUBAR at least for awhile, and how long does anyone with ambiiton need things to be FUBAR for?
The end times are a waste of time. It's like focusing on the last book/movie in a series because you just want to see the end of it.
Be aware that eveyone will die, From there, learn to live. No one needs practice dieing or thinking about dieing.
Hi UnbiddenTruth,

I know what you're talking about.......it's not all about comets and meteors and asteroids, although that's everybody's latest obsession these past 5 years. I think we have Hollywood to thank for that, with movies such as Deep Impact and Armageddon. If Earth's going to get hit, it's going to get hit, there's nothing we can do about it, and most importantly, it's nothing new. It's the way things have always been.
Something to note though is that in the C's material, (the Cassiopaean transcripts) they do say that's what we can expect to happen.........soon. Although they purposely refused to give the actual date, instead, opting to just say that it'll be before 2012. The reason they opted to not give a date was because it would interfere with people living their lives normally, having the experiences they need to learn their lessons. I find the C's transcripts to be a very reliable source of information, although I'm not going to live in panic or fear or worry due to the knowledge that there's a good possibility we'll be smacked by an impact.
The end times are a waste of time. It's like focusing on the last book/movie in a series because you just want to see the end of it.
Yup. People need to just live their lives. And actually....................I think the better thing to do if someone sincerely believes we're living during "the end" is to make sure to live their life that much more FULLY. Don't be complacent, don't take anything for granted, don't put off for tomorrow stuff you can do today. Etc.
No one needs practice dieing or thinking about dieing.
Disagree, BIG time. In fact I just read a really good quote in the Carlos Casteneda book "A Separate Reality" (and I think in "The Teachings of Don Juan" as well) which talks about the fact that it's absolutely NECESSARY for a man to contemplate his own death and ponder it. You won't be able to live your life with "impeccability" when you stumble blindly along acting as though you're going to live forever. To paraphrase (really badly, because I don't have the book in front of me
) - A regular man never thinks about his death, and so he behaves as if he'll live forever. His acts are meaningless. A Warrior contemplates his death, and lives every moment with the knowledge of his own demise, and because of that, every one of his acts have meaning, and he lives "impeccably."
I'll tell you this.........................Maybe because I'm turning 30 this year, I don't know, but suddenly, it REALLY hit home that "I'M GOING TO DIE." And I REALLY pondered what that meant, and ALL of its implications. Let me tell you...........that was a wake up call. Time to straighten up a lot of the way I was living my life. I'm not doing anything "bad", it's just that there's things I could and should be doing differently, that if I don't change, I will be VERY disappointed in myself when I exit stage left. I've revamped a lot of things in just the past 3 months alone. I try to live my life a little bit more like what's described in the Casteneda books. No meaningless frivalous bumbling along with my eyes shut and ears closed off to the fact that I'm going to die.
Pondering one's own death is not depressing or a downer, it's in fact, liberating and enables one to live their life better, which means it's actually very necessary. Especially when we live in a culture which tunes this out with as much distractions and diversions as possible.
UnbiddenTruth,
Hi there!
I'm curious... why in the world would you, someone so obviously sick and tired of doomsday fanaticism, even visit a topic page called It's the end of the world!?
I don't think everybody, and very few if any, here on NR are doomsday preoccupied, I think we want to openly discuss our environment, and our environment reaches from the center of the earth, to the sun, and even beyond that... and if we so choose, discuss unsettling feelings we have about as much, or insights.
I think you're new here, right? Maybe you haven't noticed yet, but there are some really sentient human beings on this forum board, I can't imagine too many of us are afraid of dying.
Even so, even given my frank words--I respect your opinion. I was just wondering why you would visit this page given your feelings?

Exactly. Well stated!! Don Juan says death is our best advisor.
And by that, I'm learning to see *him* when I make decisions. Do I want this to be my last act on earth...mouthing off to the neighbor? making less of someone? feeding my ego? - whatever.
Only by using death as an advisor do I not fall into thinking...oh, I can fix this tomorrow...I can do this tomorrow, etc.
As Lyra said...it's very liberating. And for me, facing my mortality created perhaps the biggest leap forward in the discipline to live my life impeccibly.
WR,
Christine
Yup an awareness of our death is a great way to go beyond materialism, and brings so much depth to life, even if it is not easy at first (last month I wrote a text on the subject, available here). I feel this is very important in the coming times. People who are not prepared, who never really pondered about the meaning of their own death (and thus by reflection of the death of their own world), are going to go through really tough stuff in the coming years. I'm afraid those who are not able to internalize things and see beyond the finite games will just go into survivalist / panic mode and won't benefit much on a soul level from the changes (of course I'm not talking of people on this board)
There are impeccable and wasteful ways of approaching the knowledge of death. Lyra brought up the impeccable way, while I think UnbiddenTruth had the wasteful ways in mind. There's a big difference between a warrior and a paranoid doomsayer - the warrior gains power by being aware of his mortality and therefore giving meaning and consideration to every action, while a paranoid doomsayer loses power because he's either obsessed with predicting the "big one" (anticipation), surviving what's to come (running from death), or giving up since nothing matters anymore (succumbing to death before it even happens).
Morpheus, Matrix Reloaded: Then tomorrow we may all be dead, but how would that be different from any other day? This is a war, and we are soldiers. Death can come for us at any time, in any place.
Doomsayer: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaarrgggghhhhh --- I'm going to die!!!
If death is not the end of us, what's to worry about? And given the (personal) pain and (collective) torture of this world, I'd just as soon see the other side now rather than later. "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine"--REM. I'm a zen nihilist!
I've come to think of death as the greatest adventure concievable by a human-mind.
It is always saddening to say good-bye to those you love and the place you adore as your 3-D home, but alas, c'est la vie.
This world is not my home. I'm only passing through. It's just a giant Motel 6 with cockroaches. (that's why they leave the light on)
I like that analogy, heard it only a few other times.
I think it's fitting, for my case, to call it a home because I consider every individual incarnation a reality of its own. Like RIGHT NOW I'm Amir living in Canada with 2 sisters and a mother. For Amir, Earth is his home. The essence of Amir, the soul, the spirit, whatever, is a fragment of something much higher, but Amir as itself, the one speaking on the Montalk forum, is a resident of the blue-marble in the Milky-Way.
Unless Aaron was born somewhere else and came over to Earth on a trans-dimensional spaceship, I think in that sense, it is your home also (for the time being anyway).
I was a blue-light special at K-Mart.
aaronfirebrand,

To be aware of death is not to contemplate it, in my experience. Then again, contemplation in my past was the equivelent of mental masturbation and I've moved past that. So perhaps contemplation works too. [Ex word hore still breaking the habbit]

In a consumer society, you learn to read between the labels. Which translates to, because I had something to offer to the discussion and some free time.
Thank you for the compliment, Auendove. I sense that the matrix does not appreciate a sense of humor, and I'm only too happy to not comply.
