Re: Tattoos

Jen-

It depends on where on your body you put it.. if you place it on an area that is prone to changes over time (for example, your belly or breast- if you choose to carry a child, etc) would be more likely to experience changes.  A qualified tattoo artist can give you some feedback on the best "where".

There are, in fact, laser treatments that can assist in removing a tattoo, but the treatment is expensive and there may be more than one treatment required.  There is also a procedure where a tattoo artist blends ink to match your skin tone and basically tattooes over the existing tattoo- the issue with that are apparent.

Hence the importance of being thoughtful prior to the decision smile

Re: Tattoos

Jen--
since the tattoo is on your skin, it'll go wherever that skin goes. if it eventually sags and stetches, so will the tattoo. but if you manage to keep your skin nice and tight, you should be alright.
Matt--
you said the tattoo you intend to get is "no different to a logo for an institution, or an emblem for a sporting team." that's pretty much what i said equating tattoos with "branding".
Futureal--
so what's the point you're trying to make by stringing together eight quotes from my posts without providing context or comment? or was your point that you misperceive a question ("have any of you considered...?") as a statement? or was your intention just to stack several of my lines to create an impression, then to follow that with a twisting of my words, and then, like a cherry on top, to throw out the implication that i'm a troll?
and i'm accused of bad form by simply correcting someone's spelling!
if you don't like me posting here, don't offer meager pseudo/-psychological opinions. merely stop misinterpreting me, stop quoting me in or out of context. that way i'll feel no need to respond.

ps. have you ever heard of apostrophes, Futureal?
pps. i don't consider $1000 shoes to be wasteful. i love mine! they're much more comfortable than a needle in the skin.
don't judge $1000 shoes as wasteful until you've walked a mile in them.

Re: Tattoos

Those quotes speak for themselves and need no explanation. Its not like its light-years removed from the source, anyone can go back and read it in context by *gasp* hitting the back button...if they are so inclined. I am sure the majority of the people here at NR can see right through you anyway, so the quotes were probably not needed. I think Lyra has the right idea...so I am not going to waste any energy on your worthless semantic banter (and telling me about apostrophes when you dont even capitalize...), however if you want to contend that tattoos are "status symbols," then what are $1000 shoes?

Re: Tattoos

Jack, I thought you equated tattoos to status symbols - a way for insecure people to be accepted by a larger group. Pathetic, insecure boobs?

Do you wear a pair of shoes that are of a particular brand name? Do you drive a car or ride a bike which is manufactured by a certain company? The computer you use to write these posts - is it built by a multi national corporation?

Unless you can say no to these examples, of which there are many more that I have not listed, you too are demonstrating the status that you have within our society. It is a choice you have made, and which everyone makes. Even if you were able to say no to these examples, then that would reflect your choice to oppose the 'norm', and hence alter your status. However it would still be considered a status, but of a different degree, and you cannot escape it.

Some people get tattoos, others don't. Some people wear ties to work, others wear sandals, some people don't even work. No matter what choices people make, they are at some level demonstrating to the world their status - even if it is not a conscious decision.

The people who choose to get tattoos for whatever reason, even if they are getting them to desperately become part of a larger group, are no different from those people who oppose and reject tattoos. They too also wish to become part of a larger group - the people who decide against getting tattoos.

Re: Tattoos

wOW....by all means, right or wrong Jack Starit was just voicing his opinion on tatoos ( I have a tattoo so my opinion would differ from his) but I am not going to say because we differ on a debate that he is a puppet which will  be triggered from my statement hence is more of a jab as somebody spelll checking my words. That sort of statement Lrya would make people insecure to debate with you. Now my opinion I think that tattoos are very artful....Some people are original some are trendy just like it would be with people without tattoos, some original some trendy. In my opinion as well I think all people are programmed in one form or another (For me I grew up in a middle class white community my family was the only spanish family in the community so when poeple asked me what was my ethnic background I would say anything but spanish (as a child I had racism for my own race)...just for a way to try to feel accepted but now I look back and and feel ashamed that I did that because I know I would have been accepted anyways....stupid on my part but i was a child and programming had a big part...I now appreciate my race more than ever before even if my friend say I speak spanish like a white guy:)   I just want to add that NR is one of the best sites I have read and really enjoy quite a few of your posts (Montalk, Lyra, Bhang ect.) to name a few.

Re: Tattoos

Futureal--$1000 shoes (actually $1100) are just the most comfortable, highest quality ride my feet have ever known. it's all about comfort, not flash.
i use mainly lower case as a style. to my mind, failure to use apostrophes indicates laziness. the lack of capitalization rarely causes confusion where lack of punctuation often does.
you haven't explained how a question became a statement in your mind. more laziness, like your insisting that the quotes "speak for themselves".
but don't mind this "troll". after all it's just "superfluous nonsense" and "worthless semantic banter", right? except i doubt that "banter" is what you intended (look it up), or for that matter "semantic" (feel free to look that one up too). and since i'm not a supernatural dwarf or giant, i'd have to say the term "troll" is ill-advised. on the other hand, with the sort of insults you've thrown at me, i feel within my rights to call you a mean-spirited mushbrain.
matt--sorry to disappoint you, but my shoes are handmade by a fantastic local shoemaker, my computer was custom-built in california (there really is no avoiding corporation-produced parts, but the computer itself was built by a small specialty company), and my car is a '55 nomad, manufactured in detroit by chevrolet. it's not about status, it's about the good life. i live in relative anonymity, so my appearance in, and appraisal by, society is irrelevant.
the rest of your complaint is murky and deserves no response.

Re: Tattoos

what am i, your pet? how tremendously insulting! never a rational response from you, just more insults.
matt, you're a mental midget with the IQ of a fencepost and the integrity of a republican.
keep up the putdowns and i'll respond in kind. cease your boorish behavior and i'll withold further comment.
ps. i guess water down the drain is not the only backward thing down under.
pps. "many-ness" is not a real word. you really ought to think about getting and using a dictionary.

What a tempest in a tattoo-pot cool

Re: Tattoos

All this over whether someone likes tattoos or doesn't? Surely there are a lot bigger problems in the world than this? Why devote so much energy to this topic when in the end, it really doesn't matter at all. Life is way too short to worry about what other people think all the time, especially with something as trivial as a tattoo on a persons body. Lighten up and focus on that which matters most, escaping this rock, matrix control system, or whatever term you choose to use.

And don't worry girls(or guys), if you have a tattoo and that someone doesn't want to associate with you, they are only doing you a favor. Saving you the time, trouble, and heartache! wink

You're probably thinking right now, "what does he know about it?" Read on.

I have been in the Tattoo Business for almost two decades now, and I have worked on Doctors, Lawyers, Grandmothers, you name it. There is some art out there that doesn't look that good to be honest, and there are a few people out there that claim to be reputable artsits. But it is up to the individual to do the research and find an artist or a shop that does quality work. Don't go to the first place you find and hop in the chair!

Re: Tattoos

Seriously can you guys stop fighting in this thread. There is enough here to start its own topic. I started this topic about tattoos not about whether someone else thinks your conditioned/programmed.

Re: Tattoos

Actually, I think they're fighting about $1000 shoes at this point.

I'm not sure though.  I've been lost since the beginning of page 2.

Re: Tattoos

Take my hand, Lyra, I'll guide you...basically, it''s all just a tempest
in a tattoo pot.  cool

Re: Tattoos

If I could move these posts to a different topic, I would.

And I would delete a bunch of them, but not sure where to make a clean cut.

So it'll go like this - from this point in the thread onwards, please get back on topic as Voodoo requested.

Take bantering off the forum, as I'll be deleting further posts about shoes, spelling errors, pets, trolling, mike tyson (oops wrong thread), snowflakes, etc...

As for discussable but off-topic subjects that have come up, just find or start other topics on those. Thanks.

Re: Tattoos

Hi everyone, long time no see! Just thought this was a good thread to voice some qualms of mine. First, in keeping with the intended theme of the thread, I agree with the idea that tattooes can be a creative form of body art, but it is clear to me that many tattooes are for the sake of saying one has a tattoo or just for some trivial coolness of some sort. If you think it through and decide you want a tattoo, go for it, but make sure its one that resonates with your true, timeless self (as it will be with you forever, it would be wise to get a design that will always reflect your inner-self). I've actually considered getting one for a long time. The design would be an aggregate of the Mayan Hunab Ku and other symbols, representing my conection with the galactic core and thus the entirety of existance. I haven't gotten it yet, and I'm not sure I will. I always can if I want to but there is nothing pushing me to get it, and symbols are only a means to an end anyways.
