Re: movies

Yes, it's a must-see for all Dylan fans, impatiens.  I've been thinking about it and reliving it all day long.  What can I say, I'm in love. cool

Here's one of my faves by Dylan, maybe my fave:

Mr. Tambourine Man

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand,
Vanished from my hand,
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin'.
And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind,
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Re: movies

So they've re-made Superman.  I was watching the teaser trailer on Yahoo.   They've kept the original musical score, as well as Marlon Brando as Jor-el, using archive footage.  I'm glad...nobody else could voice Jor-el like him.  smile  And the score....it IS Superman!!!!   I think it's one of the best musical scores of any movie, ever.   I think I get what they wanted to do with this movie...when you watch the original, as good as it is, you can't help but think, "If only it was made nowadays...."   Some parts are just so good, while others are kind of hokey in that they reflect the time that it was made.   So it seems that the goal with this movie was maybe, possibly, to keep everything that was really great about the original, what really worked, (Christopher Reeve's look, Marlon Brando as Jor-el, the score, etc.) and spruce up what came out a bit hokey.

They have a Christopher Reeve lookalike named Brandon Routh playing Superman.  He looks so much like him it's scary:   http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0746125/   He's even 6'2"...Christopher Reeve was 6'4".  Close enough.  wink   He was born and raised in Iowa too, so he really fits the part of the corn-bred Midwestern Clark Kent.  smile   And Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther??  PERFECT!!!!

All the superficial stuff aside, it's interesting the resurgence of Super Hero movies......3 Spiderman movies, the neverending Batman franchise, recently resurrected with Batman Begins, the X-Men franchise, and even that dippy one, Fantastic Four.   And now a remake of Superman.   Does this reflect the masses' desire for hope, for heroes, for something good to latch onto?  A subconscious desire to be rescued and lifted up from this reality??  In watching empowered super heroes saving the day, do we wish to emulate that for ourselves?   I wonder!  It's all very interesting.  (god, don't I sound like a college lecture with those questions??  Sorry!!!)

What's especially interesting about Superman is that he isn't human.  He's not one of us.  He's an alien, sent here to Earth to help humanity, to raise it up out of the muck and bring them up to the light.   I've just started reading a book called "The Convoluted Universe" which talks about, among MANY topics, alien intelligences coming here to seed people with knowledge, but finding that Mankind was too steeped in fear and primitive predjudices to understand or accept it.  I don't know if that's true or not, (hey, you've seen my "Gray are bunk!" thread!  big_smile )  but it is interesting that the concept of Superman is based on this very premise.

“Even though you have been raised as a human being, you are not one of them.  They can be a great people Kal-el, they wish to be.  They only lack the light to show the way.  For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you.  My only son."

It makes my eyes water every time.   sniff!   Seriously, I know that probably sounds hokey, but damn!  It always gets me.

It seems to me that Superman represents a modern-day solar hero.

Solar hero--what's that mean?

To me, he seems to represent a modern-day religious figure.
As the Daily Planet’s news chief said to staffers: “Whichever one of you talks to him will have the most important interview since God talked to Moses."

And, like Jesus, he seems to represent the kind of super powers that as Jesus himself said, are latent in humanity.

Yeah...I'm confused too....what's a solar hero?

(Oh, and to clarify from my earlier post...not that anybody cares, but the Superman theme I was talking about that I like so much is the one that they play in the trailer...it's not the main theme, so I can't find it online.  Not sure what it's called.  But I dig it!)

Re: movies

Hmm... never realized the metaphoric nature of most of these above mentioned films- namely the similarities with Superman and the Bible- chalk that one up to intentional ignorance on my part.......

I must moan a bit- all the discussion of "loops" & such lately- IMO applies to popculture.

The word is regurgitation.

I've been saying this or half my life- what happened to originality?

I know, I know..... it's still there ifya look real hard...whatever.

I am dumbfounded at how he majority still eat this crap up!

"hey'd ya see the latest Batman installment?"

ummmmmmm hehe ....nah.

Seems scriptwriters are all about the binge and purge, creatively speaking,
and I find it nauseating.

I won't even get into that regarding music- waaaaaaaaay worse as far as lack of originality.

And they always say, "we are only catering to the viewer's tastes."
Sounds like a bit of an excuse to me.

Did you notice, in Matrix I, when Neo is fighting the agent in the station, in the background are giant ads for 'Sol' beer?

It's one whose life story symbolically represents the movements of the sun through the zodiac.   Here's some Google links for more on the subject.

At the very least Superman seems like a type of Christ-like figure ... the only begotten son, here to bring light to our human world of darkness ... it's a familiar motif.

No, good catch.

Re: movies

jor-el and kal-el seems to represent the "ang-el"s; same line with archang-el micha-el, rapha-el, isra-el etc etc. this is a good way for them to enter themselves as saviour beings  with super powers who are more than human in our pop-culture. sure they wouldn't do that with sacred texts or holly books nowadays, in our left-hemispehere dominant society. they have new ways now.

also, i've been to new harry potter movie, not as successful as others, but it has some very interesting points. it has keyports, illuminati like bad guy groups (dead-eaters), genetic manipulations to raise lord voldemort, very good memory/timeline change ideas etc. and oh, lord voldemort - the powerful bad guy - seems to be a gray alien!

Actually, I'm thinking more like reptilian.  I haven't seen the movie, but in the book, Voldemort is described as having snake-like features and slit eyes when he was resurrected.   The Potter series is littered with reptilian imagery and references:   Harry’s ability to speak Parseltongue, or, "Snake speak" ; Draco (the Dragon) Malfoy; The Slyther (slither) ins;  The Basilisk serpent creature in book 2; the resurrected Voldemort with his reptilian / snake face and eyes;  the character of Sirius Black anagramming to *Basilisk* Cur, with the star system Sirius supposedly being the origins of ancient reptilian Gods; and Harry's mother "Lily"  Potter, with the name Lily being the designator of reptilian genes.   About the name Lily, David Icke says, "In ancient Sumer the reptilian bloodline, as passed on through the female, was symbolized as a lily and the main reptilian gene carriers were given names like Lilith, Lili, Lilutu and Lillette."

It's ALL about the reptilian imagery in the Potter books!

(on a sidenote, I still think Sirius Black anagramming to Basilisk Cur is the most clever thing I've come across in the books yet.   I can't get over it.   The character of Sirius is an Animagus who shapeshifts into a black dog.   His name anagrams to Basilisk Cur.....Basilisk tying into the Basilisk serpent creature in book 2, and Cur being a slang term for.....dog.   The name itself, Sirius, concerns the star Sirius, where the Dogon tribe of Africa say their reptilian and amphibian gods came from eons ago, and of course, his other name Black, which matches his dog color.

It's just about the most clever thing I've ever seen, honestly.

Re: movies

I have seen the new Harry Potter movie, problem with one is there are huge chunks of the book missing which somewhat spoils the story line for the book lovers but overall not too bad.

Lyra to add to your Sirius/Dog connection Daniel Ratcliff who play HP birthday is on the 23rd July the start of the "dog" days of summer when sirius  rises before the sun, strange coincidence eh.

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

Re: movies

Sirius A is Isis, whereas Sirius B is Osiris.  A is visible, while B is not visible (to the naked eye).  That is why Osiris is called a "black god", the declaration of the "Dark Rite", and why the character is named Sirius Black, and, of course, why he's a werewolf.  My belief is that the Sirius stars have something to do with an outward manifestation of our own situation, intimately linked in some manner, be it mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, or all together.

'TIMOTHY LEARY'S SIGNATURE
An
Observation
By
Blair MacKenzie Blake

It was while looking at the way Dr. Timothy Leary signed the 23 drawings that are featured in a display at THE LIGHT SPACE GALLERY in Venice, California, that I first noticed that the slashes across the 'T' and 'L' made the letters look almost identical to the 'runes' in a highly controversial and often misunderstood occult symbol known as "The Black Sun."

Although the number 23 is connected with the star Sirius and Dr. Leary's "Starseed Transmissions" (those received during the 'dog days' of 1973), which concerns a mystery* that involves Sirius's dark companion (prosaically called Sirius B) - a 'black sun' known to various initiatory orders as "the sun behind the sun" and "The Hidden God", I couldn't help but wonder if he (Leary) hadn't tuned into the even more esoteric concept of the Black Sun. In this case, the Black Sun symbolized the spiritual luminosity that is buried deep within the bowels of the earth. Here, "bowels of the earth" is a coded al-Khem-ical phrase for both the void of creation and another (hidden) dimension of consciousness called "Universe B." Just as Sirius B is invisible to the naked eye (first photographed in the 1970s), the Black Sun of occult tradition is invisible to ordinary human perception. But to those who somehow do perceive it, this Black Sun serves as a beacon of the other side - that which humankind should seek via Da'ath (the so-called 'false sephira') on the Qabalistic Tree of Life, which is the gateway that leads to the shadow-side of the Tree. Interestingly enough, in light of Dr. Leary's ideas about the transmutation of consciousness from our "linear terrestrial circuits of the nervous system to the future circuits", the other side of the Tree of Life is usually related to the future.

So, was the veil lifted? Did Timothy Leary encode in his idiosyncratic signature the belief that he had perceived the shining darkness of this occult Black Sun with its orbit of mystery (again like Sirius B) via the Starseed Transmissions (or from other experiments he conducted)? This esoteric Black Sun which shall transform humankind spiritually when the 'Eye' is opened.

Not to mention being Harry's "god"-father, also.
