Dear Jen You are a punk. A xcurilous punk. We non- christians toss your type to gators. Meat on the hoof.
Thanks Mavis. I'll check out the Roman Piso writings. That is just the kind of info that helps expand my perspective.
In my soul readings with Athor, I learned only about 30-35% of what is believed aout Jesus today is accurate. Still, you don't want to dismantle what you cannot rebuild. The Gospel of Thomas and many other ancient transcripts can add more aspects to his character.
Although I'm a Nazarene minister's son, I do believe much in the Bible has been changed and embelished through time . . . and influenced by religious need to control.
It seems to me Jesus would be a bit stunned to see what is supported by his more conservative Christains today. Yet, some good is done. Jesus seems to be among the least violent, least greedy and most patient character I've ever studied. That is how I like to see Jesus painted.
Thanks for all the great resources. My wisdom continues to expand, through all this spirited dialogue. So hopefully no one unsubscribes, or nurishes the gaters any tme soon.
There is no boredom in NR.

This article is the opposite viewpoint. Make your own mind up! I love the file name given to this article.
thanks, Mavis. After reading that, my sense is that the Roman Piso theory is not worth investigating.
Don't forget to read Part Two of that article: http://www.tektonics.org/lp/pisocake2.html
Quite amusing!
I have been meaning to reseach this for several years. I had many links to this theory but lost them in a computer crash last year. I have a friend who is an ancient history teacher and she is convinced that Jesus was not an important figure in history. I argued that history is only the viewpoint of the writer not the masses. When we finally get to time travel we may find all history books will need rewriting.
The question of whether Jesus is a historical or a mythical figure has been discussed here already, early in this thread, and most, including myself, concluded that it doesn't matter whether he actually lived or not. Jesus may be an idea; the same can be said of God, or of you and me. An idea has its own reality, and the more energy focused on it, the more powerful it is.
In my soul readings with Athor, I learned only about 30-35% of what is believed aout Jesus today is accurate.
30-35%--that's about how much of the Bible has resonated with me.
It seems to me Jesus would be a bit stunned to see what is supported by his more conservative Christains today. Yet, some good is done. Jesus seems to be among the least violent, least greedy and most patient character I've ever studied. That is how I like to see Jesus painted.
As Ra said, Jesus' mission was to teach and live the love vibration, surely something our planet has sorely needed.
Thanks for all the great resources. My wisdom continues to expand, through all this spirited dialogue. So hopefully no one unsubscribes, or nurishes the gaters any tme soon.

Yup, never a dull moment.
It's fine with me if anyone unsubs. Godspeed, I say.
And I propose we send Krazor on an all-expenses-paid
vacation in Florida, where he can swim with the gators...
Jesus said, “If the flesh was created because of the spirit, it is a wonder; but if spirit is produced because of the body it is a wonder of wonders. I myself marvel how this great wealth was placed within this poverty."
Having just got here and read that quote: what it says to me is that Jesus IS saying that somehow the body DOES "produce" the spirit -Jesus saying that he "marvels as to how..." is saying to me that he knows it is so.
I get the same reaction to that quote; Jesus was saying that the spirit is produced because of the flesh. I don't know why. Maybe because it says "great wealth was placed within this poverty."
I maintain that Jesus was being ironic in that quote.
LOL!!!! Okay. The 'great wealth' is your eternal soul/spirit and 'this poverty' is our physical bodies here and the spiritual poverty with which we are forced to live by incarnating here.
But what was stunning to me is that Jesus 'marvels as to how' this has happened! He's not saying flesh makes spirit. 'I myself marvel' means that he understands the levels of deception involved in our all being here and being himself the living man-god incarnate (living without the limitations with which we are all born) he understands this as being on the level - possibly the same level from which he comes. He 'marvels' in finding that all his 'god-brothers' have gone and incarnated (or been captured) into this physical realm where they no longer have any memory of who they are or even that they are themselves constructed of the eternal god-light! So, that he 'marvels' would lean toward it being a deception in our being here in the first place . .
So, that he 'marvels' would lean toward it being a deception in our being here in the first place . .
Old Testament stuff--we were deceived or enticed by the serpent, "ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" and thus became physical and subject to polarity. That's "original sin." It's all symbolic, of course.
But I see our incarnation into the physical more as a choice than as a deception. Like Alice, we willingly went down the rabbit hole...
It seems "Jesus" is being channeled by quite a few people these days.
I don't know if that's who they are accessing, but I consider the material on its own merits and I think most of the channelers are sincere. I think this one well conveys the teachings of Jesus as they relate to the indictment situation, especially this part:
Those in the spotlight of humanity have accepted roles that may seem
corrupt, evil, debased, and completely abhorrent. Do not judge, lest
you be judged. I would say that it is worse to judge than to accept a
role that might seem negative for the purpose of enlightening the
masses.
Those who wish to control took that role before coming to Earth. Just
like those of the Light who came to implement a new life, they
reviewed their mission and saw the paths and consequences, but they
took the assignment out of love, anyway.
We would like to reiterate, every soul that is on Earth has played
every part. Everyone has been a part of the Light and the Dark, even
though you might not want to examine that part of your history if you
are of the Light.

The Recent Indictment
October 31, 2005http://www.HealingMysteries.com
This indictment marks only the beginning of what will surface. There
is information being withheld for many reasons. One reason is that
there are many individuals who have not been aware of what has been
happening in your government and strongly believe in it still. We cannot completely destroy hope in people's hearts, so what is to be
will come in stages. We seek balance and harmony in life and a
gradual adjustment to the new life that will be found on Earth. We treasure all life: human, animal, and mineral. We hold your
integrity in our hands. We wish to disillusion no one. The
indictment has opened a door slightly, but it is not the focus of our
work. It is just a diversion, though a very important diversion. It
is a crack in the armor of those who wish to control and dominate the
world. For those who wished to see the walls of tyranny come tumbling down,
what appears as the final result of a two year investigation into
corruption might seem insipid, diluted, and disappointing. Be patient,
there will be more.At first, new information must be placed into the consciousness of the
observer. If the new information is too dramatic or thought provoking
or in opposition to firmly held beliefs, there is a shock factor that
tends to unbalance one's connection to reality. What will follow will be larger news of a more comprehensive layer.
We work in layers, so to speak. What happened in last week's
indictment was just the top of an outer layer. What will come from
this beginning will be a deeper layer.Even then, those who wish for immediate change might be disappointed.
Sudden change will cause a giant wave, and that is unbalancing to
your society. Small ripples that go deep will be transformative. We wish to remind you that the original distortions towards control in
the very beginning were slow in their total effect. Those who wished
to control took one step at a time so as not to be noticed, but more
than that, steps towards control were slow so that they would be accepted. There are always a few who are on the crest of new movement and
acceptance, but the vast majority are slow in accepting change because
they are thinking of their own world, no matter how small their world
might be. It takes much to awaken those who are closed-minded to the
world around them and its implications. The indictment of one in the top realms of authority in your
government is not the real result in this investigation, but rather it
is the crack of solidarity that has been held by those in control.
They hide behind a wall of respectability, and that respectability has
held many in their allegiance, for many of the followers of this
administration are honorable in thought and commitment. What is behind that crack is an avalanche of change, but it will be
slow in coming. The demolition is controlled, and each step in this
journey will be attacked by those who are hiding behind the wall.If the steps are slow and not too threatening, then the ones
discovered will be sacrificed rather than the forces engaging in an
all out fight for survival. The forces in control will pare off the
problems and retreat, pare off and retreat as each fact surfaces. This is how we see the battle to be won. Eventually, there will be
few standing, but when that occurs, all the threads from the past will
be woven in a final purging, and those left standing will have no
where to go, and all will be uncovered. We do not wish to destroy but rather rebuild, and we take our
responsibility seriously. How can one rebuild with the least amount
of destruction? Only by degrees. Do not be discouraged. All will
surface and all will be healed.Shalom and best wishes for Earth and her inhabitants, no matter where
they are or in what state of evolution they find themselves.I remain the shepherd who protects his sheep. You are mine and I am
yours. I stand here with so many, and we hold you in protection. We
can see around the bend, so to speak, and we see the possibilities and
realities of your present events.Be patient. There is victory in love and patience, and we love you
and are very much interested in all outcomes for every participant
that has played every part in your dimension of illusion. What you call evil sometimes is just an illusion also.
There was once a popular song called The Great Pretender. Remember,
people have played roles, and those roles were intended to awaken the
masses. Memory is cut when you come to Earth, but the role was
installed into the consciousness of those who came.
We would like to reiterate, every soul that is on Earth has played
every part. Everyone has been a part of the Light and the Dark, even
though you might not want to examine that part of your history if you
are of the Light.Whether of the Light or of the Dark, there were rules that were
assigned to each participant. Those who were faithful in following
the rules were of great service to the world as they set up
opportunities for humanity so that humanity might grow mentally,
spiritually, and socially. As the indictment is followed by new revelations, do not judge or look
down upon what you see or set yourself up as better than the fallen.
But rather observe the unfolding of activities as advancement and the
calling home of all the parts so that the oneness and brotherhood
might come forth and all participate in a new life.Be steady in your daily lives. Call no one names other than Brother.
Pour out your love and understanding upon all, no matter how they are
judged by the court system and your citizens. This will be your
struggle, those of the Light: to see all God's creations as God's
creations.Humanity has had a problem understanding the struggles between the
Light and the Dark. There will be a time when you will understand,
though. We give you this message so that you do not fall back in your
own achievements, as judgments have a detrimental effect upon your own
vibrational achievements.Concentrate upon love in these days that follow. No matter where you
find yourself, know and understand that all events on Earth are but an
illusion, except love. You might say to yourself, "When I am in pain,
there is no illusion." But I say to you that in comparison to the
eternal life that you have explored through your many lifetimes and
experiences, your pain today is but an illusion and the pain will be
overcome.Blessed Be
Jesus

I haven't read the whole thread, and I realize that Jesus' physical existence is not relevant in a grand sense (he serves his archetypal function through myth), but to concentrate on the "history" has kept many "followers" of Christ (Christianity in general) from activating the symbols within themselves (if you stay stuck on the metaphor, you go no where). In any case, at the risk of over saturating this thread with more research and perhaps being redundant, I found a link to contribute. I work at a post office and one of our regular customers runs Age of Reason Publications. He has written a few books and several articles on the Jesus Myth subject. Just thought someone doing serious inquiry into the subject might be interested. Here is the link:

Just found a quote from Theosophy that I think is a worthy addition to this question. Here is the version used, and the explication:
If the Flesh
Came into Being for the sake
Of the Spirit, that is
A Mystery. But if
The Spirit came into Being
For the sake of the Body,
That is a wondrous Miracle.
How did such great Wealth
Make its home, I wonder,
In such poverty? He alludes to the mystery that Spirit should choose to become other than itself for the sake of that other - the body - a sacrificial act which cannot be understood in mundane terms. The Word made flesh is imconprehensible to men because it is the supererogatory act of an intelligence greater than man's. It is the prerogative of beings who have wholly transcended the circle of delusion, decay and death, who have travelled beyond even the realm of ethereal forms into the infinitudes of undivided Being. According to the Gupta Vidya, the magnanimous minds and hearts that attain to this exalted state are exempt from involuntary incarnation and may enjoy the blissful repose of nirvana or unconditioned consciousness. But there have always been those noble souls who have renounced this beatific peace to return across the ocean of incarnated existence to aid human beings in approaching supreme enlightenment. In performing this renunciation, "the Great Sacrifice", they freely acept the limitations of those to whom they have come. Their compassionate descent represents the ideal of unconditional love unintelligible to those bound down by the evanescent allegiances of an egocentric world.
So it seems this passage is saying that Jesus was talking about avatars who incarnate voluntarily to help us awaken. The text goes on to say that this is the deeper significance of the myth of Prometheus.
That's a wonderful passage. Thanks for sharing it, Jen. It resonates for me and reflects a balance of choice I rarely see understood or expressed, but have felt/known exists nonetheless.
Glad you appreciated it, Sowelu. It's intriguing, isn't it. I wonder if any well-known entities incarnated from those "infinitudes of undivided Being."
Maybe the Buddha was one of them. Ra says that Jesus incarnated here from late 4D so that rules him out.
Anyway...on another subject, I was just reading an interview with Terence McKenna on the Art Bell show back in '97, and he had some interesting things to say about Jesus. He was talking to a caller who apparently was a fundamentalist Christian:
AB: Okay, east of the rockies you're on the line with Terence McKenna ... hello.
Caller: Hello ...Terence, from what I heard, you are obviously a disciple of Satan, and I have to say that I want to know why no scientist has ever disproven the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
AB: Okay Terence, Oh, disciple of Satan ..
Caller: Yes, he is a disciple of the devil ...
AB: Okay, well, let's get his reaction to that ... we're talking of these matters so it is worth some consideration ... Terence, how do you respond.
TM: Well, if I am a disciple of Satan, it's an unknowing disciple. I am ... at your break someone said I was a heretic ... I certainly am a heretic.
Caller: You're not a heretic ... you're deceived ... you're deceived by Satan. When you die, you will know that Jesus Christ is God.
TM: Well, perhaps ... my position on all of this is that we're not in this world to choose between good ideologies and bad ideologies; I think that sort of ... I don't know, maybe this is middle age setting in on me, but I've come to the conclusion that all ideologies are the enemies of human freedom, and we haven't made progress when you choose existentialism over Christianity or anything over anything. Real maturity begins when you notice that these ideologies are cultural furniture.
Caller: So Jesus Christ was a liar ...
TM: No, no ... he was a piece of cultural furniture inside western civilization. But let me turn to this question of the resurrection for a moment which I find a little more interesting ... I can't remember in which gospel it is ... the caller probably can tell us .. but when the Mary's go to the tomb the morning after the resurrection and Christ is there, he says to them as they approach, he says "Women, touch me not, for I am not yet fully of the nature of the Father." And I have never heard any Christian enthusiast discuss exactly what this means. It's a fascinating statement. Here is Christ, resurrected, having overcome death, standing alive at the side of the tomb, but saying "I am not yet completely of the nature of the father." And what this suggests to me is some kind of cryptobiological process that we're dealing with here. I don't think science can prove or disprove the resurrection because science never deals with unique events. If we had a thousand resurrections, I suppose they could statistically examine it and make a judgment, but these unique historical events are more properly the study of historians.
AB: Let me ask you in your own little way as a historian, as you have looked back to develop your model, when you get to the time of Christ, what kind of a peak do you see?
TM: Fascinating question ... At that point in the wave there is a unique signature that doesn't occur anywhere else in the wave. So in a sense it does indicate the life of Christ as being incredibly unique. But recall I said it never says what will happen, it just says where to look. And what makes the call on Christ a little difficult is that Christ shared the earth with Augustus Caesar; in fact, the story of Christ's birth mentions that Joseph and Mary were going because of the census of the world that Caesar has called. Well, Caesar Augustus is one of the greatest military and political geniuses of all time, so he's in the same part of the wave as Christ. I don't know how to tease them apart, but I can certainly tell you that the time wave tells us that the period from 15 BC to 40 AD was extremely novel.
If the Flesh

A Mystery. But if
The Spirit came into Being
For the sake of the Body,
That is a wondrous Miracle.
How did such great Wealth
Make its home, I wonder,
In such poverty?
The bold section of the quote is what I've always thought of an example of Jesus' ironic sense of humor. Why would wealth make its home in an impoverished state? The idea of the body (considred inferior in Gnostic-Christian systems) producing the spirit (considered superor), would have been understood as spiritual ignorance by the Gnostics. Marcion and other docetists could not believe that Jesus, a Divine Being, had a physical body, but only appeared so. Irenaeus said of the gnostics,"They denied that the Son assumed anything material. For matter is incapable of salvation." The Gnostics also believed that Jesus didn't suffer crucifixion (as he was only spirit and incapable of suffering), and abstained "from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ..." Ignatius
The story that McKenna is refering was understood by the Gnostics as an example of the gospel's esoteric teaching of docetism. Another docetic teaching arises from Luke's story of Simon and Cleopas conversing with someone who turns out to be the ressurected Jesus and then immediately "vanished out of their sight." The Ante-Nicene Fathers had to have a physical, flesh and blood Jesus, who suffered and died on the cross, to ressurected from the dead by God. The flesh would be rewarded with a resurrection of the body. This was nonsense to the gnostics that wrote such book as "the Gospel of Thomas." The Gnostics goal was escape from the Earth, since "Flesh and blood cannot inheirit the kingdom of God." (Paul).
Hi kid mongo,
Welcome to the board, and thanks for your posts.
I too thought Jesus was being ironic in that quote, and said as much in my previous posts. The Thesophical p.o.v. is intriguing, but it seems
it only applies to avatars, not us garden-variety humans. A bit elitist...
As for the Gnostics thinking that Jesus'body was an illusion because he was a Divine Being--this goes
against Jesus' own teaching. He never sought to put himself above the rest of us, and repeatedly stated
that we were all gods, and that ultimately we would be able to do even greater things than he. In other words, his body was no
more of an illusion than anyone else's. As is so often stated, we are spiritual beings having a human experience,
not vice versa.
Re the story McKenna mentioned, how is this an example of docetism?
Thanks, Jen. I've enjoyed reading this thread. To your question regarding McKenna and docetism:
but when the Mary's go to the tomb the morning after the resurrection and Christ is there, he says to them as they approach, he says "Women, touch me not, for I am not yet fully of the nature of the Father." And I have never heard any Christian enthusiast discuss exactly what this means. It's a fascinating statement. And what this suggests to me is some kind of cryptobiological process that we're dealing with here.
The reason why McKenna will never get an answer is because this scene comes way too close to docetism.
McKenna's interpretation of this event as depicted in the gospel, in what he calls a "cryptobiological process," can either be understood as a real event or a legend. McKenna, to my reading, seems to think that Jesus was a physical being that underwent a "cryptobiological process" before/during his ressurection. Of course, the gnostics did not believe in the these "appearance" legends that occur in the NT, with Jesus appearing and vanishing at will. Certainly would have been considered "non-physical" to the docetist. In that Jesus fobade Mary to touch him was an esoteric clue of his real nature, according to those gnostics. I'm not saying that they were right, but who the hell really knows? Is the Pauline theory of ressurected corpses popping up like Orville Reddenbacher's Kettle Corn, out of the graveyards on the Day of Judgment that much more believable? Docetism was very dangerous to the Early Church because it made the Passion of Christ meaningless.
Let's look at the saying in Thomas (56) Jesus said: He who has known the world has found a corpse; and he who has found a corpse, the world is not worthy of him.
You can see how they thought of the material world. Never fear, the Kingdom is within us!
-EDIT-
No accident that there is no ressurection narrative in the Gospel of Thomas.
