No, you are wrong, any old vegetable oil will not suffice. Pure peanut oil is an okay substitute but I don't recommend it since the oil from peanuts grown in certain areas does not have the essential 'x' factor for some unknown reason.
Also, never try gargling the oil. Only gargle, with plenty of water, after you have spit the oil out.
The healing effects are subtle, you will begin to feel inexplicably 'well' particularly in the mornings upon awaking and. also, you will suddenly realise after a couple of weeks that your memory has been improving and you have more stamina.
Also you may experience pain around the lower jaw but this will eventually go.

My wife and i have been using virgin olive oil for the past week and it seems to be working well, if you cannot get sunflower oil my advise would be to use this.

Re: Complete health.

Barefoot...if you have not compared the relative effects of both olive and sunflower oil then how do you make such a statement. Not that it bothers me , if you want to stick with olive oil go for it, I'm only trying to put you on the right path.

Re: Complete health.

Hi Eagle Red, i have not compared sunflower to olive oil myself but the information came from a Naturpathic Doctor who is a friend of mine who always recomends olive oil for this exercise and he has good feedback from his clients.
There are very few actual references to this old folklore remedy to be found but he got his information from an old  herbal folklore book which called for olive oil.
It has been referred to as Russian oil pulling therapy so i guess it may have originated in this region.

Could well be sunflower is the best to use but IMO its the actual process of oil pulling mixed with saliva that is the key to this old folklore remedy and they would have used whatever  oil was at hand IMO.
Mt wife and i have been doing it for 8 or 9  days now and i am convinced the olive oil is pulling toxins as i spat some on my lawn, my friend said if it contains enough toxins it will kill the grass and it did. We also feel much better and seem to have more energy.
If we had not felt any improvements we would have switched to sunflower in a shot and we will be trying it with sunflower oil when i get round to buying some.
Thanks for trying to put me on the right path though smile
all the best

Thanks, Doc, you're welcome, all the best, Eagle

Re: Complete health.

You know, after I get back home and get settled back in again, I'm going to give this a go.   It can't hurt, that's for sure.   When I first saw this thread I skipped it, thinking it was bunk.  But then I was finally tugged to look closer at it and became intrigued.   Now, I plan to buy some Sunflower oil, see what happens.

In these times, with whatever lies ahead, we could use all the help we can get!  lol  I figure that among sunflower oil, colloidal silver, garlic, cayenne, Black Walnut hulls, etc. and so on and all the other great herbal remedies for microbes, fungus, bacteria and parasites, we should be covered for whatever comes at us.

Re: Complete health.

Sunflower mouthwash update:  I've only been doing this now for 4 mornings.  15 minutes.  My mouth feels great afterwards but the terrific news is my toothache is completely gone.  It was actually pretty bad at times - especially after I drank something cold -- now it's gone.

I'm sold.

Re: Complete health.

I just bought some and have used it once so far. I felt like I had a mouth full of automatic transmission fluid for twenty minutes.

I have had a cold for a week. My sinuses were completey clear for half an hour around the time I used it and have not otherwise been so for the last week. I also felt buzzy and ligher at the time I was 'using'.

Definitely going to keep going with it =]

Re: Complete health.

As I type this I'm swishing with my first dose of sunflower oil.

It's a bit weird.  We'll see how this goes!

Update:   only a couple of minutes into it and my cheeks hurt.   What a workout for the face!

Re: Complete health.

Tried to find some cold-pressed sunflower oil in the store today, but they only had "high heat" sunflower oil. Guess I'll have to order on-line.

Here's a decent FAQ about "oil pulling" therapy:

Re: Complete health.

Well Lyra, looks as if we have both started on the same day, all be it on opposite sides of the world. I wonder who will start bouncing off the walls first?

Re: Complete health.

Lyra, hello once again, I feel you may be putting a little excessive energy into the exercise.
When I take the oil I do it the moment I rise in the morning, then I do a few yoga stretches, maybe meditate for 15 minutes and all the while the oil is in my mouth I am barely aware of it but I am all the time gently moving it around my mouth.
I am thrilled that you are trying this, Bravo! and you also Neo.

Thanks for that, a lot of good info there, think I may give this a try.  By the way, it says that refined oil is preferable to cold-pressed:

Can we use unrefined oil for OP, as unrefined oil will have some vitamins good for health?

Dr. Karach has recommended only refined oil. This has been used by millions of people with wonderful cures and accepted in practice. Regarding unrefined oil there may be ingredients injurious to the body and its taste, color and smell may not be agreeable. It may cause or induce vomiting sensation in some people. Since pesticides and insecticides are used in crops, it is possible that trace elements of such poisonous chemicals are not only harmful to health but also carcinogenic. Since refined oil is colorless, odorless and tasteless, such a situation would not arise. I therefore suggest do not use unrefined oils for OP.

So which is it, cold-pressed or refined?

i thought I read somewhere on this thread that the oil should be cold-pressed? The FAQ indicates it should be refined. I'll have to do a thorough Google... The FAQ also says that you should do the OP for 15 minutes while sitting straight up and thinking of nothing but the oil pulling. I think a lot of my health issues would up and disappear if I had an effective meditation first thing EVERY morning smile

I think we can take the doctor's word for it that the refined oil is preferable...good thing, since it's also easier to find.

Yup, sounds like a great way to combine meditation and detoxification!
Hey, just thought of a new word:  medetoxification. yikes
