One of my favorite movies growing up was Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s the story of an alien creature that gets stranded here on Earth. In the first scene, when his fellow travelers discover intruders approaching their spaceship, one of the aliens sends out a communications-homing signal from the red “heart Light”  on his chest, alerting the others to return to the ship. Although E.T.’s heart Light glows in return, he can’t get back to the ship in time and is accidentally left behind when the spaceship hurriedly leaves.

In the same way that E.T. received signals and warnings from his mother ship, you too receive them from yours (the Light)–whether you listen or not. And this week they’ll be stronger than any other week of the year.

As The Zohar explains, this world is only a passageway to what kabbalists call the World to Come. The Zohar says that the pleasures of your earthly existence are only 1/60 of what you can experience in the World to Come, and the actions you take here determine whether or not you’ll make it there.

Of course, the Light wants you to get there, so it constantly sends you clues and signals on how to do so.

How do you receive these messages? Through a little voice in your head.

According to Kabbalah, we are all fed by two voices. One is what Kabbalah calls our ego voice, our so called rational and limiting voice. This voice supports doubts, fears, and sets limits.

Then there is the inner voice, the inspired voice, the voice of the soul. This is the voice Kabbalah calls the Light. This is the one that creates paintings, symphonies, comebacks, peace agreements, deal closings, and true love. This inner, soul voice knows no limits, only more possibilities, in every area of life.

Anytime we have accomplished greatness, or felt true joy, we have tapped into this inner, inspired, soul voice.

So how do we tune out the ego voice and pick up a stronger signal from the voice of the Light? The only thing that prevents you from clearly receiving is–you guessed it–you. You create interference between the Light and your inner receptor.

The key is listening to the little voice the moment you hear it.  (It happens very fast just like a gut reaction or instinct).  Listen and act.  The light is giving you direction and sending you where you need to go.

This week, the usual interference isn’t there. You have the opportunity to establish a secure connection to the Light and to clear out all the interference you built up last year.

When you trust the Light, open your mind and heart to that little voice, and act with consideration to others around you, the answers you seek will become clear to you. The voice of the Light will become stronger and the voice of the ego will diminish.
