Holy crap!!  No pun intended!!!!

I did research into colon cleanses at the begining of 2003 and saw the websites that show the results of what you just described.   Disturbing isn't even the word for it!!     If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you get this to work for you?   What was the procedure you used?   I've tinkered with psyllium husks and bentonite clay, but it didn't work for me.   Stuff went in, but then nothing happened, and it ended up just making me feel bloated and icky.   So I'm just curious about the procedure you did.  Did you eat any food during those 7 days?   Lots of water?   Anything else that helped the process along?   Something I missed?  smile

On a side topic, I wouldn't recommend those herbal colon cleanses, like ReNew Life in case anybody here is thinking about that.     Not to be all gross, but I did one of those (after the psyllium husk thing didn't really seem to be working) and I permanently ruined my intestines.   sad   No lie.  I'm permanently damaged.  If I don't maintain a special diet, things won't work.    But it's a miracle they can even work at all with a special diet, because for 16 months after I did the herbal cleanse NOTHING WORKED.   I literally thought I was going to die.  (actually, I was;  I was told as much during an abduction)   I had begun relying on herbal stuff to keep myself functioning after the cleanse, but I was ruining my liver apparantly, and didn't even know it.  I began having strong negative physical reactions to the herbal supplements, over time it was taking a toll.   (my skin would be on scorching on fire along with waves of chills, but my temperature would show up lower than 98.6 degrees on a thermometer, coupled with violent cramping, and other issues.)   It's a long story, and I won't bore anybody here with it.  All I can say though is beware of herbal cleanses!    You'll damage yourself.

Psyllium is tricky, but very potentially useful in the right application. The drawback of using psyllium is that it draws alot of moisture from the colon where of course much of the body's hydration comes from. Not to mention nutrients. Though, the small intestine is where most of the nutrients from your food are absorbed.  Psyllium is remarkable,on the other hand,  in it's ability to bulk and pull matter and toxins through the intestines.
But, to the point! I have read several books on colon cleansing and tissue regeneration from Dr. Richard Anderson to Dr. Bernard Jensen, etc.. When deciding what "program" we would go with we considered time involved, ability to function during the cleanse, and costs. We settled on Richard Anderson's cleanse from his book "Cleanse and Purify Thyself". Has alot of his spiritual leanings in the material, but by and large his cleanse offered more simplicity and supposedly tremendous results, which is what we really wanted. In the book there are reports of removing up to 40ft of this encrusted matter. Considering the length of the intestine, that is only fraction. But, even at that, the benefits are incredible. And we wanted to be clean!!!!!! So, blowing off all the high prices for his or anyone else's herbal combos, we went through the list of herbs he uses in his cleanse products and bought them all bulk rate and capped them ourselves. A bit time consuming, but a good thing to do whilst sitting on your ars, drinking tea, wondering what it would feel like to have clean digestive tract. His book will explain, but let me say there are three cleansing phases or options with his program. The first two are easy, the first being easiest and so on. The third is what we went for to begin with as we were all for it and our personal circumstances allowed for it. Seven days with no food. Only psyllium with bentonite, alternating with herb combo every 1 1/2hrs. Psyllium, herbs, psyllium, herbs.........each having been taken somewhere between five to six times during the course of the day. And of course lots, and lots of water and some juice. The psyllium bulk for the most part keeps you from getting hungry, and the herbs are specific for nutrients and to loosen the crust from the intestines and keep everything moving. (This was what you were missing, Lyra.) HOWEVER! This cleansing did prove to be very challenging to any enthusiam and convictions we had devoted to the process in the beginning. I mean, jeez! Every hour and a half you had to take something. We had to set our timers on our wristwatches to keep up in order to make sure we were getting all of the herbs and psyllium the cleanse called for. Overall, though, the cleanse was very rewarding as promised in the book. Lots of stuff came out everyday. The whites of our eyes were very white and skin literally glowed. Stiffness left and waking in the morning easier without the fog. But, we backed off after day four or so due to the intensity of the regimine and had begun experiencing symptoms of detoxing too fast. In the beginning we figured we could handle phase three because we had already done so much cleansing before. Alas, we switched to phase two and so I only got 8ft. Would like to give it another go one day when I have less demands for time and energy, but if I never do it doesn't matter. In the meantime I stick to maintaining with simple and milder solutions.
I would like to add that while there maybe nutrients lossed due to removal of substances, one loses more from malabsorbtion and autointoxication than cleansing. Not to mention while one is cleansing they should alway be taking supportive measures to begin with. Also, any damage that can be done is simply overloading your detox organs by cleansing too fast for your body to keep up. Unless of course, a product or program IS just designed poorly or misused in some way, and/or your organs are already damaged. These are just my observations, but there seems to be info from other sources that can corroberate.
If anyone were to do a colon cleanse, mild or aggressive, I would get that liver and kidneys cleaned first. Only makes sense to clean the filters before you overload them with dislodged and potentially harmful substances. Clarke's cleanse makes the most sense to me, to start with, because in doing it the bile ducts are cleansed giving the liver the ability to produce more bile improving digestion and remove toxins from the body faster. Not to mention improving glycogen storage. And, on top all that, you can drink more wine!!!;)
Lyra, since I sell the Renew Life products at the store I work I would like to know what you took (the specific product name if possible) and what exactly it did. If that is too personal, I understand. I would just like to know what I'm selling to people. Hell, I can even call the company and tell them what happened, not mentioning names of course. I hear they have henchmen!!

Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing

Thanks for the info., Thook.   That sounded like a pretty intense cleanse experience.  Honestly, I'm too scared to try it.  I'm afraid it could kill me or something!   Or that whatever's coming out is my actual intestine, and not just something from inside of it!!!!    Lordy lord!  big_smile

I took their Colon Cleanse, I think they only have one.  It has two bottles of herb capsules, a 30 day supply.

What did it do...well, not to be all gory, but for starters the herbs are SUPER SUPER potent, and you'll be going up to 5 times a day.  They warn on the package that if you start to have problems to cut back on your dosage....which I didn't do.   Silly me didn't understand what such a strong dose would do to my insides over time.    I wanted to cleanse, so I just thought the stronger the better.   But what happens is it basically burns out your intestines / colon.   Natural peristalis ceases.   When you abrubtly stop the program at the 30 day mark, don't expect that your body is just going to be able to pick up where the pills left off!   Nope!  Now your intestines will be lazy.  They're like, Damn, I don't feel like working!   I've had a vacation for 30 days!  Herbs have done the job for me!

That's the funny way of putting it, but in all seriousness, the intestines just CAN'T work on their own after that.  And I had NO clue about that aspect.   If I could go back and change things, I would.  I wouldn't do the cleanse, for starters.   It wasn't worth it.   On the one hand, the silver lining to the whole deal is that I'm now forced to try to have a better diet because of it....but it's hard to stick to that diet, and honestly, I fail miserably.

So I stopped the ReNew Life cleanse, assumed life was back to normal, but then I was in for a rude awakening.  The next 16 months were me against my body.  I went through so many stages - depression, frustration, anger, hopelessness, etc.  It's a long story, but I finally fixed myself you could say.

But I wouldn't recommend ReNew Life, thook.  You know, and maybe it's just me, but seriously, it's all very questionable.   I would not recommend it, and I'm here to warn people about their products.  I already did what you suggested -- I called them soon after the problem began to talk to Customer Support.   Did I get anywhere?   F*** no.   Customer support for ANY of these companies don't give a damn.  They're there to play dumb and support the product.   The lady who I talked to just played dumb.  You could practically here her furrowed brows and "I don't know what you're talking about" facial expression over the phone.   She flat out told me, "Well I do the cleanse three times a year and I've never had a problem."   Even went as far as to claim she'd never heard of this problem I was mentioning.  Some customer "support."  They don't  want to hear about any potential issues with their product.    Maybe a class action lawsuit would wake them up....?  wink  wink

I think some of these health practices can ultimately do more harm then good.   Frankly, I don't want to live to 100.   I've already had the intuitive hit that I live to be in my mid-60's, TOPS, and that's just fine with me!   Whatever I'm doing is good enough to get me to at least that point....and that's all I need!!!

Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing

One of the things that i have found to be fantastic for Liver Cleansing is Turmeric - the Spice. (heh, just realized its the same color as "spice" from Dune) - anyway, when I was unemployed for a year and a half i went travelling for 5 months through asia. I met a bunch of people from all over the world and, well, drank with them. My liver was hurting after 5 months of hanging out at the beach and drinking with people... Turmeric has done wonders to keep me clean.

Turmeric has a substance in it called "curcumin" which is the major ingredient in some herbal liver supplements that I bought at Whole Foods (for 17.95 a bottle). Curcumin has been stated as being a strong anti-oxident and an anti cancer agent.  http://psa-rising.com/eatingwell/turmeric.htm

but there is significant confusion on the subject. I only drink the stuff when my body "tells" me I need it...

Lyra, an herbal/vita wiki here would be interesting. I would be interested in seeing what people have taken, for what and their personal results. In the past on here there was some talk about colloidal silver - but I never felt I knew enough about it to feel confident in trying it.

Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing

Hello,

I'm gonna do Dr.Hulda Clarks parasite cleanse
(black walnut hulls, wormwood, and common cloves)
can anyone one recommend how much of this stuff i should ingest?

Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing

Hi Piece_ofnothing,

I have just embarked on the cleanse myself starting yesterday. The trouble I have found is that I can only find wormwood as a tincture whereas on all the dosage instructions i can find it specifies in capsule form......The lady who gave it to me told me to take 5mil of the stuff a week so 0.7 a day but on the dosages it specifically says to double the dosage everyday. Im thinking maybe i will do this until i notice some adverse side effects..urghh one thing is for sure the stuff tastes GROSSS!!

Apart from that this tells you the dosages:

Id be curious to hear how you go smile

Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing

Hi I'm new here, but I'm very interested in this. But I'm suffering from information overload here, Is there a link or something? There is a link for doing a liver flush but what about removing 'parasites' ? What exactly is parasites when referred in this manner?
