Re: Wherever I May Roam....

Sounds very awesome for her cool !

By the way, my favorite Alice in Chains? "Again" smile , but I like many of their songs. No contest though, "Again" is my favorite!

The heavy bass driven music like this reminds me of some really great times in my life about 20 years ago, it reminds me of what it feels like to be on a 3-wheeler hauling ass across the desert, or spiralling in and out of 20- 30 ft. sand bowls.  Lots of Metallica is like this for me too, and of course Zeppelin... especially "Immigrant Song" and our favorite "When the Levee Breaks" big_smile .

Also, I didn't comment on Great White earlier... now that man has a voice on him, a real blusie voice... and I agree with you, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" was far from the band's best stuff.

What about the Scorpions? Whatcha think about the Scorps?

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

Hey, Cindirella in a thread! I really love Long Cold Winter. Awesome hair-rock smile

Poison is very good to, their song Stand surprised us a lot when I was in a rock radio back in 90's. We thought they were a glam band but thissong had some soul in it. Ratt!! Great glam group. I still love to listen them. Def Leppard? Pour some sugar on me!

But Bon Jovi, Scorpions & Europe? Nooooo....

By the way Auendove, sometimes I do that "mental song-picking" on radio too. That's really fun smile

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

Yes I love ZZTop but never saw their show.  (I did see The Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, and Jimi Hendrix!)  Back in the day I had a discjockey friend who always brought albums from the radio station, so we always had the jump on good music.  He introduced us to Freddie King (BB's bro) who was incredible.  I always loved the blues.  Those were the days of my pool glory.  I'd skip work to shoot pool at a nearby bar, heh.  Never played for money cuz I didn't want to get busted, but played for drinks all the time.  I got a lot of attention and all the guys wanted to try to beat me.  It wasn't unusual for me to run a table so they didn't get the chance.  Ah, that was fun!

Heehee... "Love is like a bomb, bomb, bomb...".

I just found out this tidbit of info after googling them--

Originally they were known as "Atomic Mass", but when Joe Elliott joined as a vocalist they adopted the name "Deaf Leopard" (which Elliott had thought of in school). The band changed "Deaf Leopard" to "Def Leppard" because they thought "Deaf Leopard" might lead people to believe they were a punk band.

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Def-Leppard

Ha-ha... Def Leopard's greatest hits "Vault" was what I wanted for my last b-day present.... I'm listening to it right now... "Animal", this probably my favorite Def Leopard song, though there are so many of them that I like.

Oh my, my, my, but many of their lyrics were, ahem, sexually provocative, weren't they wink ?

Whoa! You can run a table at will? WOW!

Heehehe... I said I like to shoot pool, I didn't say I did it well. LOL! For this reason, I'd never bet anything. If I had to save my life for shooting pool I'd be up the creek she-ite without a paddle smile !

I do though have my moments when I play better than other times, this usually between the time it takes to drink two to four or five brewskis, before the two and after having four or five I might as well be blind! lol And under any circumstances I cannot make a bank shot.

But ya know Soloflecks big_smile, I don't mind losing, I just like to shoot... when I have the chance.

You lucky dawg you! Don't care so much about missing out on seeing the other two, but I sure would've liked to have seen Hendrix! Even though the Stones still tour, I wouldn't pay to see them... I'd go if it were free though.

Heavy sigh... never got to see Zeppelin either. I was supposed to though. I had a ticket to one of their shows in the 70's, but I got my rebel-ass in trouble for partying the weekend before the concert... my dad found a partially consumed six-pack in the trunk of the car one night after a party... DOH! He was not amused, and my mother was mortified. I naturally got grounded and couldn't go to the concert sad .

I learned not to leave "evidence" laying around from that experience wink big_smile .

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

I actually saw Hendrix twice, since Dallas and Fort Worth are so close together.  Had to see him that second time because I was too stoned on acid at the first one, heh.

Don't worry, I haven't run a table in many moons cuz I'm way out of practice.

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

mad Momentarily, I have put on my " bitchin' " shoes:

I went into the bank this morning, there at 9am hmm  to take care of some business. I don't like going into my bank, one reason being they have a TV facing the waiting line and it is permanently set to CNN.

This morning I was standing there, next in line, and the TV showed the woman in Crawford, TX who is "sitting in" on the road to Bush's TX ranch. She's protesting the war--

http://search.hp.netscape.com/hp/boomfr … cnn.com%2F

Anyway, they were reporting about her and then showed Bush responding--

http://search.hp.netscape.com/hp/boomfr … cnn.com%2F

Bush expressed sympathy for those who have lost relatives in the conflict. "I grieve for every death," he said.

"It breaks my heart to think about a family weeping over the loss of a loved one," he said. "I understand the anguish that some feel about the death that takes place. I also have heard the voices of those saying, 'Pull out now,' and I've thought about their cry and their sincere desire to reduce the loss of life by pulling our troops out -- I just strongly disagree."

'Something's broken alright, but it ain't his heart' was what I thought as I stood there. I, naturally, got a pinched look on my face, heavy-sighed, crossed my arms over my gut, and turned myself away from the TV screen as he kept on blah, blah, blah.

From behind me in the line I heard, "You got a problem with that, missy?"

Oh, yeah... not a good idea to call me "missy" with a patronizing tone.

I turned the voice's way, made eye contact with a man who is probably a retiree and Rep, and said, "Yes, why yes I do... I don't think a hypocrite should be running our country." And raised my eyebrow, defiantly.

'C'mon, take me on...' I thought, but he averted his eyes from me, backing down. What a chicken-shit bully... just like "his" president. How come Bush's daughters aren't in the armed forces, if he's so <bleeping> behind the war "effort". WHY???

If Bush grieves for every single lost soldier in Iraq, 44 this month already, then he shouldn't have time to do anything else but grieve. Grief is not fleeting.

Wow.  !

You were a lot more civil to the guy in the bank than I would have been.   There would have been a total SCENE had a stranger had the nerve to butt in and pick a fight with me and challenge how I respond to something that has nothing to do with him.

Wow!  I mean, just thinking about what my reaction would have been makes me cringe.

Kudos to you for not being like me!!!!  big_smile   And good for you for not being afraid to stand up to him and voice your opinion.

And I'm with you on TVs in public places, facing people so there's no escaping it.  Especially when they're set to CNN.

Well that's exactly it.........sounds to me like he *did* size stuff up...judged her to be a meek little female, hence the reason he called her "Missy" !!   If she was a 6'4", scruffy buffed out male rolling his eyes at the screen then I doubt the f***** would have opened his mouth!  big_smile   Seriously.   What a fricking bully.   Nothing worse than an old school male chauvenist picking a fight with an "easy target" woman and condescending her with "missy."

I'm mad just thinking about this, and it didn't even happen to me!  Must go analyze why...time for some inner reflection!  big_smile

You know, I almost forgot about that.  I had to read your post 3 times before I fully remembered about the whole party crashers thing.  smile   Actually, I got peeved reading about the situation probably because I've had related things happen to me.  I get miffed at bullies and people going after what they perceive to be an easy target.  Key word of course being "perceive", because perception and reality are often two different things!   I'd bet my life that he wouldn't have opened his mouth had you been male, let alone call you a condescending name....because in the male world, the comeback response would be "You wanna take this outside?"  He's too scared for that.   But he can start stuff with a woman, sure, no problem.

Bully!

Ooh that irks me.  (sorry, there's no "mad" emoticon! haha)  And not much that I read irks me anymore, I just tune stuff out, and go buy more Strawberry Shortcake dolls on eBay.  big_smile    I'm just glad to hear you stood your ground, and he broke eye contact and put the tail between the legs.

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

Where ever I may roam... and tonight I roam with Stevie Ray wink . The song is called "Life By the Drop" from his recording The Sky Is Crying... the song was written by D. Bramhall & B. Logan.

For those of you who've never heard this song, I wish you could (I looked for a free MP3 download, but couldn't find one). It's just Stevie Ray and his acousitc, plain and simple... heart and soul.

big_smile It's a mighty fine song!

Hello there, my old friend
Not so long ago it was 'til the end
We played outside in the pouring rain
On our way up the road we started over again

You're livin' a dream
Woh you on top
My mind is achin'
Lord it won't stop
Thats how it happens
Livin' life by the drop

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes
Talkin' 'bout good things and signin' the blues
You went your way
I stayed behind
We both knew it was just a matter of time

You're livin a dream
Woh you on top
My mind is achin'
Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens
Livin' life by the drop

No wasted time
We're alive today
Churnin' up the past
There's no easier way
Time's been between us
A means to an end
God it's good to be here walkin' together my friend

You're livin a dream
Woh you on top
My mind is achin'
Lord it won't stop
That's how it happens
Livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens
Livin' life by the drop
That's how it happens
Livin' life by the drop

Re: Wherever I May Roam....

Okay, I know this isn't Metallica, but this is sort of the place to go for people who want to talk about the glory days of 80's and early 90's rock and metal...right??  big_smile

But this week I remembered my old favorite from highschool, GNR's "Use Your Illusion II."  Vol. I had some good tunes too, but I owned the II tape, and played it often.    I know Axl is a misogynistic pig, but damn that band rocked!!!!  tongue   Seriously.    I downloaded a bunch of their stuff this week, and I can't get over how damn good some of those songs were.   If anybody likes metal / rock, and you haven't heard "Estranged"..........find a copy, and listen to it.   Wow!!!!   9 minutes of epicness.   It's an amazing song.  I  had forgotten how it went after all these years, I just remembered that it had been my favorite on the tape, and after re-listening to it again this week I remembered why!   Wow!!!!!

I also still really like "14 Years", "Civil War", "November Rain", "Don't Cry" and "Breakdown."

Well, the thread wasn't started to be about Metallica per se, rather as more of "anything goes" zone. I never really got into Metallica until early last summer, and I still don't own any of their music, although a friend downloaded "Where Ever I Roam" for me so I can hear it whenever I want... this saving me from having to beam the radio with my intentions in order to hear the song wink . I think sharing about the glory days of rock and roll is great fun, you go ahead and post any and all you want about it! lol

And Guns and Roses? (or as I call them--Bums and Posies big_smile ) I'll never forget the first time I saw the "Welcome to the Jungle" video... whoa! Very quirkey was that! Obviously....ummm,  different smile .

I've enjoyed so much of their music over the years, but "November Rain" is one of my favorites... even if it does get me choked up sad .

Although I have to add, if given the choice between Guns and Roses and Alice in Chains, I'd take Alice in Chains! And although my man-critter, a guitar player (we've five guitars here, including a '73 Fender Strat... ooooh, ahhhh smile ), disagrees with me, I'll take Jerry Cantrell's hard and edgy guitar style over Slash's "perfect player" guitar style any day!
