Re: The "Real" People

I personally think if they where so evolved as they claim they would not be here.
Or there is another possibility that they are indeed evolved and act as some sort of balance force stoping us to utterlly destroy the planet.
But we all are here embodied to perceive lessons so... perhaps they have to deal with the fact that are other ways of living life, and in a sense all of then are valid,at least at the eyes of the universe.

The poetry of absurd freedom ,lies in the boredom of the latent, sleeping mind.

If you read, "Mutant Message Down Under" that's exactly what the Aboriginal tribe claims they do (and have been doing for generation)--keeping the earth plane in balance.

If you click on the Kogi link that Ayahuasca provided elsewhere in this thread, on crystallinks.com, you'll find that the Kogi believe they serve a similar purpose--that of balancing and healing the earth.

Re: The "Real" People

I spent a couple years studying under an Aboriginal elder.  My experience is that all people who still have deep connection with their indigenous culture will say that they are the "original" people...

This might just mean an original state of mind, before modern religions came along with the illusion of God being separate...however, there really truly is a certain profound, powerful purity about Aboriginal cultures that I deeply respect.  There are not words to describe how grateful I am for what my teacher taught me.  And there is nothing that modern-day physicists are discovering that the Old Aboriginals didn't already know.  (That is not idealizing the culture, this is a reality I know from my own direct knowledge and experience.)

The sad irony is that white people went and colonized all these other places to "civilize" them and "enlighten" them.  How can you have the audacity to think you can teach a people who know they ARE God about God?  White people, by our own science, are the youngest people with the youngest cultures on the planet.  Who are we to save these elder cultures and peoples?

I know that some people don't like to hear the issue about white people, but it is sadly true.  I am white myself, and I know I purposely incarnated as white to learn about how white people are programmed.  It has been a terribly painful existence, and it was a brave choice, if you'll allow me to pat myself on the back.  White cultures, by and large, are the least enlightened on the planet.  I know there are exceptions.  Take for example, the pre-christian Finnish cultures....very enlightened.  I know there were enlightened white people before the judeo-christian sweep.  But today, white cultures are by and large DEAD, devoid of joy and life.

My poor people.

We know this in our hearts, so we develop this prideful stance and convince ourselves that it is the other races that are fucked-up and re-create our Great White Hope scenarios to make ourselves feel better.  But we know the truth.  We experience our own misery day in and day out, and this "save the world" scenario helps us to avoid facing our own pain and suffering.

We are master manipulators of the physical plane.  The price we pay is we sacrifice the spiritual plane completely.  That's why they say white people ain't got soul.  By and large, it is beaten out of the white person in order to narrow their focus to this 3d realm.

Only when white people wake up to see that whites are the most colonized of all will the planet have any hope.  It's funny how the slave-like condition called whiteness has been spun as a "privileged" state.

Yes, I do believe that pre-colonial indigenous tribes had societies in which people were more enlightened.  However, it is dangerous to idealize this too much.  There was still illness, people still had big egos, there were still people with schizophrenia (and not the kind that could be channelled shamanically, but the pure chaos kind), there were still mean people.  People were still incarnating to learn, in other words, and were not frozen in a state of happy enlightenment like the pictures on a Jehova's Witness pamphlet.

However, I do believe that these societies were strucutred in a way in which the energies of the people were directed towards higher matters than mere survival.  It's funny because we in the modern world think we're so sophisticated about surviving, but the sad irony is that all we do is barely survive.  It costs so much to keep our illusions of safety and control we have no time left to LIVE, to be JOYOUS.

Ancient people didn't invent fancy machines and financial systems because they had already found happiness.  All they worried about was food and shelter and basic transport needs.  All the heaps of junk we waste our energies on were not in existence, and people were happier for it.

Okay, people can argue that modern amenities and inventions help us to live "in style" and provide the opportunity  for more leisure and creativity.  But I just don't buy this.

The times I have been most happy are when I am out camping, living simply, or just making art with simple tools, or dancing (which requires only my body and some percussion).  ANcient peoples had all this AND they had their soul-selves in tact.

Too bad most of us are too programmed in arrogance and fear to see....

I think part of the reason it is so difficult to see the superiority of older cultures is that we are so programmed into believing that "nice" "comfortable" "safe" "secure" societies, which we are tricked into believing describes our current state of existence, are the ideal.  But really, what we have is a bland white pasty world with a narrow range of experience.  Even our physical sensations are narrowed down to keep us constantly comfortable (air conditioning, furniture to "support" us, beds, cars) so that our consciousness stays numb and we can forever avoid being present.

In reality, there is no such thing as security.  The only constant is change.  So we put all this energy into keeping up this illusion of a security that can never exist.

We have been taught that feeling and experiencing anything outside of this narrow realm is "bad" "dangerous" "unsophisticated" or "savage" and, beliving that, few try it and experience otherwise.

I reserve the right to edit what I've said above, I"m a little sleepy right now.  : )

Re: The "Real" People

Really good post, tillibullu. I'm a white guy, and what you say rings true. I've thought a lot about my genes, my ancestors, and my inherited tendencies, and the one thing that keeps coming up is a feeling that I was meant for slavery. I was bred to be controlled. This is the core of whiteness, I think. Control or be controlled. Get "them" before they get you. Very paranoid, and very cold. I guess that's the best way to make slave masters: insert into them a fear and mistrust of others, so that brutality and subjugation seems nothing more than a pre-emptive measure.

Re: The "Real" People

As I stated in my earlier post, I believe that everyone is genetically modified, to a greater or a lesser degree.

I truly respect the societies who live in harmony with nature. I do believe they have an important role to play, possibly as a balancing force, as have been mentioned here.

Maybe they are here to assist and to always remind the tech-civilisations of what must always be included in a hamonious society: nature. That doesn't mean we all should migrate to Australia and live on twigs and larvae or whatever they feed on (no disrespect to the non-McDonaldy-folks). It seems as if many civilisations rise to power and persish later, but the indigenous way of life has pretty much stayed the same all this time. So, we could possibly view these civilisations as experiements that went wrong (or maybe they didn't). Don't say it is like that, just a possibility. Maybe the challenge is rather to use knowledge both of "evil" and "good" (which doesn't ultimately exist anyway) and develop a healthy world that can benefit from technology to a certain extent, but at the same time, never go against nature.

Obviously, the white guy isn't as suited for living in the jungle or living a life
as for example aboriginals do. So, what's the solution here? Shut down all the
"filthy" whitebased civilisations, wait till you die and pray for being reincarnated
as someone who lives in harmony with the nature?

I don't necessarily feel that returning back to where it all might have started
(Ad-original; "to the originals":)) is the answer. Evolution isn't a bad thing. It's
just that we have evolved veeery fast, and it didn't really give us time to stop
and say, "heey, we're we going?" "What's all of this leading to?"

I might be a "sinner" or whatever. But, nevertheless, some days I enjoy
eating a McGarden, no matter how corrupted the company might be. I like playing videogames some times, even though it might be filled with nasty brain-washing-shit.
I admit, there actually are one or two Britneysongs that I have enjoyed through the years, no matter if she's a programmed illuminati-mind-sex-slave or whatever.

Believe it or not, not everything in the "white" culture has to be viewed as the devil's poop, though obviously, there could be better representatives of the white culture that the stuff just mentioned. wink

Of course, we can't continue to live like this much longer, so I would gladly give up my once/twice a year McVeggie if it makes any difference.  Of course I realise that the problem isn't the ones who eat a burger (veggie or not) a year, but those who constantly feed on it, and those who really live as if we have unlimited amount of resources, and really dont want to see how bad things are.

What I'm not ready to do though, is moving into a tipi or a igloo or whatever.
I don't necessarily feel that the aboriginal no-tech "primitive" way of life is the ideal one. Not to me, that is. As the "white world" might seem really crazy and messed up, I'm actually glad to live here (never thought myself to write such a thing! Heeelp! wink)
Because we have something very unique on this little blue-green spaceorb: diversity.
All these different kinds of expressions of all civilisations on Earth allow us to learn and experience life in a totally unique way. Of course, this should never come at the cost of the very thing that keeps us alive: Earth.

But, maybe the point was to maintain our centre and heart in the nature, as the aborliginals and other indy-folks so greatly remind us of, but at the same time,
see if we could develop into hi-tech civilisations, that always knew how to live in harmony with it's surroundings. Maybe that was the challenge with this little experiment all along.

Life becomes what you make of it (though obviosuly not everything is possible to control). Sure, I might have modified genes. Sure, I live with a white-male bodysuit.
But I try to live my life to the best of my abilities, I try to enjoy life in this "white" culture, who obviously, has it's weaknesses, but also it's charms.
If the Wakan tanka or the Great Spirit is everywhere,
then the "whities" can't all be "dead".

You dont have to be an aboriginal to appreciate nature. The aboriginals dont need the whities to go on, but maybe not everyone is meant for living as they do either. We in the western world could be inspired by them; they are fine on their own, but might think it cool to share their wisdom and point of view. And then it's great! If you live in a Western society, white-bodied or not, set an example and show your fellow beings of an alternative way of living. Those who "shine" are mostly needed where it is dark.

From a spiritual perspective, diversity might be the best thing avaliable. How fun would this place be, if all we had was different expressions of tribe-cultures? It's
like only having one subject in school.

Sure, it's possible that this experiment is a total failure, viewed from the physical plane. After all, Earth is in a really bad shape, maybe beyond repair. I hope not.
Yet, somehow I know that everything is exactly the way it is supposed to be.
And I sure as hell know that I have learnt many things along the way.
I have many wonderful memories. Some not so wonderful.
We have come along way, and have seen many things, and I'm always grateful for that. smile

So, let's celebrate the diversity of life, whether aboriginal, indian, Kogi, black, white, red, yellow. And if you have a problem with the way things are, don't waste your energy on complaining, but show that even a westerner can live in harmony with the world.

"...Manjushri said: 'I think that when you can[not] speak of any event, when you neither indicate nor know anything, [and] pass beyond questions and answers, this is to enter gate of oneness. Sir, now please tell us how a bodhisattva enters the gate of oneness.'

...This is my conviction--that "even a westerner" can live in harmony with the world.  However, I feel that this includes asking the world/universe for permission--asking whether or not an action or building a twenty-story building or growing five hundred acres of soybean or buying a car is for the highest good of all concerned.

At base, that is what I feel is missing from the so-called western culture (though it's in the east, too--and yes, is white, black, yellow and red)...What has been lost is the respect for the ripple through the community of life that each action causes.

I believe cars and videogames and fast food restaurants could all be had with harmony to the oneness, but I doubt whether they could be had in the same ratios.

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Ten years ago there was no such thing as "inversion."  But now, in the wintertime, the residents pretty much expect that there will be two week periods of low, hanging clouds of smog.  We all complain about it, and the residents, the government, the weathermen, everybody recognizes that the inversion is due to automobile exhaust.  Yet, no one serious steps towards either limiting auto usage, or limiting emissions has been taken.

I have a sense of humor about it.  But I wonder how severe it will become before it reaches a critical mass for the masses.  The inversion lasts maybe two months of the year now (and that's developed in the last ten!)  So, is it when the inversion is constant that we will ask: "Is all this automobile usage for the highest good of our city, and all concerned?"

I am not an anti-technologist, or anti-westerner, but I do try to ask in living my life: "Is this the best for me, and all concerned?"  For example, and I honestly have no agenda in saying this, and I don't feel an energy of resistance when I say it: when I've asked myself if it's for my best, and for the best of all if I (me, personally) eat McDonald's the answer has been "No."  So I don't do it.

I've become about 90% vegetarian this way, too--by asking my body, and asking the earth and the universe, if it's right move.  This is way it is for me.   ...I wholeheartedly believe that (in the interest of balance) that others will be guided to eat meat, eat McDonald's, etc.

...A last thought: I've recently come to feel that the wisdom of accepting it as it is, saying "The world is just perfect, just as it is" is aimed at helping one to remove judgment/resistance and not necessarily aimed at guiding one to not participate in the game of creation.  I'm saying, what is perhaps is to be withdrawn is the energy of judgment, and that these types of teachings have been misunderstood as teachings to withdraw from involvement with the world (as if you could, anyway!)

There are essentially two commitments (both necessary): a commitment to balance, and a commitment to imbalance.

Currently I am in a cycle of trying to understand the commitment to balance, and that is what I am commiting to.  I do not mean to preach it.  ...I do think, however, that in understanding which tendency you are serving saves you and those around you a lot of heartache.

PS: I'm reminded of a dream my friend once shared with me.  In the dream he became disgusted when he noticed a leech on his finger, sucking his blood.  Then the leech said to him: "Hey, you knew I was a leech!"

Nobody wants to think that they are a leech...But, maybe, leechingness is a perfectly natural mode of being.  A literal leech is certainly natural in nature.  I can't help but think it would all be easier if we just admitted our leechingness, and took precautions to counteract its negative (imbalancing) consequences.

Re: The "Real" People

Hi Dreamosis, I totally agree with you.

I have also come to the conclusion that it is a wise thing to always ask
if something is for the highest good etc. However, many times, we may
also have to admit our shortcomings when it comes to actually understand
what exactly i s the "highest good".

If it is something we perceive and we calculate etc using our intellects, it is very easy to be mistaken. That is my expereince anyway. Of course we always have that inner voice that knows it all. But that may many times be uncomfortable to listen too, and it is often only in retrospect that we dare to see that we had to walk through some hellish experiences to grow and become more balanced. But, if one has the courage to actually listen to what the voice says, and then act on it, then it is really the way to go.

And asking permission etc for building "a twenty-story building" etc, I guess that's what the japanese are doing (according to the practitioners anyway) when they use Feng Shui:)

Also it is interesting that there might be proportions, ratios etc, that express harmony and some that are expressions of disharmony. John Michell wrote something about this, that the reason why the Atlantean culture perished was due to their focus on the number 10 instead of 12... Don't know about that, but never the less, maybe the key is not that it is wrong to build a giant house, but that it should have the correct measures, golden ratios etc etc. After all, the pyramids are still standing, right?:)

I also agree with the way of seeing that everything is perfect to rise above judgemental attitude. Because, at the same time that many things seem to be really messed up, I truly have a feeling that everything is exactly the way they are supposed to be. And this is not just the "ohh, let's pretend that everything is cool"-attitude, though I've had that one too many times, as most people.;)

And I wholeheartedly feel that it is possible to live with that feeling and not just sit on your ass doing nothing. That's where the new age-community has been misguided many times, because I don't see that a "ohh, let's all dress in white and be pure as angels and invoke our higher selves that are just perfect and light some incense and pray to guru Mishnikalkimirijibaba and sit in a circle and send rainbows to the world"-thing will do the trick. Meditating 10 hours a day just makes you a nice little lamb and easy to fool, that's my opinion. It is a middle way between outward action and inner peace that will do the trick. Could be, anyway. Not saying that that's the only way to go about.

I think we can safely assume that the majority lifestyle is a life of imbalance. Hopefully, not everything is lost. Maybe we're heading for a disaster. Hope not that that is the case.
But still, that wouldn't be the first time. We've survived it before, if we are to believe in past-lives anyway;). Maybe we all get another chance, and maybe the world is one giant simulation, or some videogame, and we just have to push the reset-button.
Maybe we can use learn to handle technology with care the next time (though not everyone might wanna be around a second time, admittedly;)).

But till then, let's make the best of what we've got; a planet filled with chaos, order, joy, pain, wisdom, stupidity and everything else we know as "humanity".
The soil might be filled with toxic waste, but we we can still grow potatoes. Even if they are genetically alterned, or we turn 'em into "healthy" potato chips. wink
The water might be toxic, but we're still drinking it, and it still quenches ones thirst.
The air might be polluted, but we're still breathing it, and it still provides us with everything needed for us to exist.

Not all hope is lost, I'd say. smile

True, we are all fucked-up, all humans are suffering and programmed to some extent and confused.

What I want to articulate is that white culture seems particularly geared towards illusion and towards clinging to this narrow material world.  It seems particularly inhospitable to vibrations of connectedness, one-ness, to the embrace and respect of the feminine.  It seems particularly geared towards a linear, future-based ideology that sacrifices the herenow for some concept of a secure future....which inevitably means sacrificing LIFE for a mechanistic vision of what reality SHOULD be.....

This is a very eloquent summation of perhaps the main problem of Western (or "white") societies.  If there is this attempt to seek security, the next question is *why* do people then seek security at the expense of living?

For me, this searching for security relates to power and the fact that many people today have a desire to lord over others, to have servants, to control the fates and destinies of other people.  Every person who controls another has a deep fear of losing power and becoming subordinated to someone else.  Every master recognizes to himself, "If I can have a servant, than surely someone might wish me to exist in servitude as well."  This deep fear and anxiety is for a major factor in why those with power seek to prevent change -- change is feared because there is a chance that those who are masters may lose their positions of power and end up as servants.

I think it is this observation that has led so many world teachers to emphasize love, especially the love of our oppressors, in producing lasting social progress.  If a servant can love his or her oppressor, then there is a chance that one day the oppressor might be affected by that love; and once that happens, the oppressor realizes that his servants wish not to chain him as he has done to them, but merely to exist in freedom, and even more amazingly, wish his freedom as well.  For even if he cannot recognize it, the relationship between master and servant is one that enslaves both parties.

For me, pre-Western ("pre-white") societies that created spaces where individuals could be more alive and exist with a greater connection to nature/god/the universe/etc. were ones that recognized that every person was valued and that there could be no authoritarian systems of control.   There is a great myth here in the West of so much "freedom" (a word that has ceased to have much meaning for me in everyday life); true freedom, at least on the American continent, may have been lost when the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria caught sight of land that fateful day in 1492.
