Topic: Idea for a web site, Please help me out

This idea has been brewing for a few weeks now. I'm interested in starting a new web site that's focused on waking people up and getting them to think in different ways. My target audience is the average person who's caught up in the typical life of 9-to-5 (or is it 8-to-6 now?) jobs, materialism, et cetera, and the contents will focus on discussing 'Western' culture. The purpose is just to get people thinking about their life and their existence from a very objective perspective. I don't intend to promote ideas about aliens, or the NWO, or conspiracies. This is going to act more like a stepping stone between being asleep in the 'matrix' and sites like Montalk.net.

Some people probably visit Montalk's site, and are immediately turned off by the idea of aliens and conspiracies. This is understandable, since some people just aren't ready to consider such possiblities. So this other web site is intended to be a little less "out there" and more "right here." I want the material to be stuff that everyday people can relate to. The intended effect is basically for them to be intrigued, and to make them go "hmmmmm..." smile That's all that this is about... making people think!

Now, I'm asking for your help, anyone's help, who's interested. First of all, I need recommendations for good deals on domain registration and hosting. Secondly, anyone who's interested in being a part of this, let me know. I know you all have talents you can contribute. If you'd like to help me design the site, write the HTML/CSS/Javascript, that would be great. If you have ideas about the layout, or are skillful with designing graphics, that's also good. But most importantly, I need people to contribute articles!

The articles, I was thinking, would be observations on everyday life. Like, for example, how people spend 40+ hours a week working jobs they hate, or why the media sucks, or how people spend too much time sitting in front of computers. wink These are just some ideas. The articles shouldn't be judgemental in any way. They should just present observations about things, and let the reader come to their own decision about them. I don't think the site should promote any opinions about what's right or wrong, but rather stress the idea that things can be seen from a number of different perspectives. I want people to be jolted out their comfortable mental scope.

One more thing: I need a name for the site. If you have any ideas for that, please share.

Hi seeker,

That sounds like a great idea.  I'd love to contribute and help in any way I can.  Email me if you'd like.  (click on the name lyra; my email is listed under my personal information.)

Re: Idea for a web site, Please help me out

I assume you are not joking, but maybe putting this topic in the humor section unintentionally is a clue from your higher self: Make it funny!

It also sounds like it would help to focus your idea more.  Maybe focus on the economic aspect, since you mention the 9-5 thing.

A name: Let's see.  You want to "wake" people up a little.  How about something with coffee or alarm clocks?

Income: Do you intend to make money off of it?  If so, there are google ads or affiliate programs.  We can prabably come up with more ideas if we know what you intend income-wise.

Articles:  There are a ton of articles out there already, probably even a fair number you can use.  You are welcome to use the articles on my site too.

Blog: Sounds like a blog would work great for your site too.  If you are not intending to make money off of it, you could set up your whole site as just a blog.

Never Give Up!

I just googled everydaypeople.com and there were no hits.... I'm really surprised there were no hits, I thought for sure it'd be taken. I haven't checked any other search engines though. It's one idea, maybe it'll strike your fancy. big_smile

freeme, what was the web site you told me about a few months ago that sells domains for inexpensive? Aya knows the name of the site too.

seeker, at the time I checked into getting a web site (for healing) I'm pretty sure it was less than $10.

EDIT--I found the site, it's http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.a … goodt005aj

I just checked everydaypeople.com on godaddy and it's not available, but everydaypeoplewest.info is available... and also available as a .com, .net, .us address, there are more options that way if you're interested.

Focus on creating content; then use the Noble Realms (soon maybe, let me know if you want help Montalk) news/weblog/articles posting section.

Cameron, I'm right on it, have been a bit slow getting up to speed on the new graphics software. Will have the NR front page up A.S.A.P. with room for articles and links to member sites. -- Seeker, great idea! I can't guarantee the NR front page will be free of alien-related stuff, so there is definitely a need for sites like what you have in mind that cover the essentials in a firm but gentle manner manner. Yeah, we need writers...and going by the posts on this forum, we do have writers. What timeframe do you have in mind, seeker? Under a month? Under two months? My goal is to have the NR front page up and running with some content by late July. We'll keep adding nodes to this web.

Re: Idea for a web site, Please help me out

OK, first off-- domain names. When I first thought of the idea I wanted to get thinkaboutit.com or pleasethink.com but both of those and most of their variants are either real sites or taken by domain-sitters. I wanted something with "think" because the purpose of the site is to get people to think, instead of acting like robots all the time. A funny title would be the best, because it would catch people's attention more easily.

As for content, I have plenty of it already. I post an another forum, a philosophy forum, where I've posted many mini-articles in the form of posts there. I would post them here too but it would be a "preaching to the choir" type thing. So I already have a few articles to put up.

lyra-- glad you want to contribute. Just stay tuned for now, I guess. smile

freeme-- I was hoping the site would be ad-free and very clean looking. I don't want the wrong influences (advertising) getting in the way of the focus of the site. I'm willing to pay entirely for the bandwidth myself, out of my income.

Not sure about the blog idea... I suppose a blog format would be good. I didn't even know that there are plans for blogging here at NR. That's a definite possiblity. In the mean time, I'm getting together the content I have, and have already starting laying out the site design.

Re: Idea for a web site, Please help me out

Hi seeker, all

Seeker, I'm liking the way this sounds; so far what you've talked about is what I envisioned when I first read your opening intro.  Didn't see a blog, didn't see pop up ads and other "income generators" which get in the way of the message.  I saw a site with thought provoking article and attention grabbing headlines, like you said.  That's the key I think, something to grab a person's interest so that when they land on your site stuff will jump out at them.   And I like the idea of having the word "think" in your domain name.   It's very fitting.

I wanted to start my own "woo woo" / conspiracy website though, since the beginning of 2004.  Not sure if it'll happen, I'm still undecided, but the idea I had been tossing around was inspired by a poster I knew over on another forum several years ago.  His name was civilian, and he posted something inspiring which I'll share here, and which would be the basis for the site I wanted to start:

"Make copies, send them around the world via file sharing.  I can't connect all the dots for you.  Carry a camera with you now at all times.  Yes, video is better.  Get a video capture card for your computer like ATi "All-in-Wonder".   Make sure it has TV-IN.   Get a DVD burner, they are cheap now - $149. Yes, at COSTCO and other places.   The blanks or DVD's are as cheap or cheaper to buy now than video tapes!  This is a heads-up to make your own news now and pass it on.   We don't have an open media anymore, it's up to WE THE PEOPLE.  Listen to alternative programs, they don't have to be liberal to be alternative.  Record radio, record C-SPAN on Sunday mornings, listen to Alex Jones.   Lead - Don't follow.   Be independent.  Individual yet connected with fellow like-minded people.   Have spare batteries / media in your glove box."

!   I've been doing this myself, poking around and taking pictures when stuff comes up - chemtrails, mysterious black clouds of doom;  recording things obsessively in my log book, taking pictures of markings from abductions;  I'm tired of reading people's hearsay stories.........I WANT TO SEE EVIDENCE.   More importantly, I want people to wake up and start being proactive.  My thinking is exactly along the lines of civilian's - get a camera, start poking around, start investigating and making your own news.  Gather pictures, gather video, pass it along.  Stop being passive.  Cause let's face it people, Rense.com isn't working anymore.  It's a lot of bunk stories, a lot of hearsay, a lot of ranting, too many stories about "Chupacabra" and the one billionth story about a UFO sighting in Podunk, USA.   Just silliness.   And a lot of talk talk talk that leaves you feeling helpless and frustrated about what you can do.

So what about a website where people can contribute their photos, videos, audio recordings, personal accounts revolving around something other than "Chupacabra" and "I saw UFO lights in the distance hovering over a mountain!"   Found underground tunnels in your city?  Stumbled across strange government happenings?   Can claim that you found "THE BOXCARS" that everybody's been talking about for years?   Know of a supposedly closed military base in your area that's mysteriously teaming with activity and staffed with foreign troops?   Well do the world a  favor and take pictures!  Show the world.   Be anonymous if you have to...but get it out there. I'm so tired of reading stories with absolutely no evidence to speak of...no solid interviews with people, no pics, no video, no anything.  There have only been several sources offhand that I can think of where people actually went out and got the pics, instead of just making wild claims.   One involved military bases here in the U.S. that had signs all over the place in German;  another were the tollboths in New Mexico that were converted into "something else"; another involved something called Tachymarks.  Weird square things on the back of roadsigns that appear to be a code of some sort...but for what, who knows.  The person went and gathered up photos though, to prove their case.  For that reason it stood out for me.   So yeah, I don't know.  This was my tentative idea for a site, something involving people's personal accounts, with photos, videos, etc.  Make your own news, just like civilian said.  Create and cover the stories that our media won't touch, stuff that would get overlooked - mysterious weather phenomenon (and not just written stories - get the pics) conspiracies, covert government "stuff" going on under our noses, chemtrails.  Start poking around, become proactive.   Another part of my inspiration came from all the times I didn't get pics and didn't get evidence when I shoulda coulda, and now the chance is forever lost.   Now I try harder.

Anyway, don't mean to sidetrack, I just wanted to share this since it ties in to what you're talking about seeker...
