picture a pendulum

picture a pendulum, that swings back and forth.

what drives the pendulum? the ongoing conflict between the two polarities.

good will triumph over evil for X years, pushing the pendulum to one side.

then, something critical happens (momentum? inertia?) and evil begins to gain foothold, and the pendulum swings the other way .

im looking for the answer, the solution, that will stop the pendulum right in the middle.
