Topic: Deserted Island - what would you take?

If you were going to be stranded on a deserted island what would you take. Let's make it hard - no more than 5 of each category! (And for Codex 012 people, I hope I'm not creating a naughty number of items lol cool Joke!!)

1.  Books
2.  DVD (player works on solar panel)
3.  Favourite junk food
4.  Articles of clothing
5.  Useful articles

For me, I'd take

1.  Lord of the Rings Trilogy (mine's in one book LOL)
SAS Survival Guide by John Wiseman
     Journal (with pen)
     A Course in Miracles
     Infinite Self by Stuart Wilde

2.  Mask and the Mirror - Loreena McKennett
     Medicine Woman - Llewellyn
DVD of 'our' songs burned by my husband
     Heartland by Tim Wheater/Stuart Wilde
Johnny Mathis - Best Hits (oldie but a goodie - I like his voice and the songs)

3.  Thornton's Continental Chocolates
An iced (and also with marzipan) fruit cake
Big bag of dry basmati rice (not junk - but useful)
10Kg bag (from wholesaler) of Chocolate Macadamias
10Kg bag of Sunshine Mix (mixed nuts and dried fruit)

4.  Mask, snorkel and flippers (one item - well, I'm making the rules on this one!!)
     Sunproofed sun shirt
     Broad brimmed hat
Decent Walking shoes & socks (one item)
     Drizabone raincoat

5.  Swiss Army Knife
     Waterproof firelighting block with flint
     Rope (non nylon)
Large sheet of plastic (collecting water, waterproof cover)
     Saucepan with lid

Re: Deserted Island - what would you take?

Cipher,

My first response was--Heck, I'd never choose a deserted island for a vacation destination big_smile !

But, I gather we aren't planning for a vacation here wink .

My second response was--Hell! I'd only need to take one thing: one very sharp machete, and it wouldn't be used to whack at vegetation or to slay 24 ft boa constrictors and rabid chimps. The machete would be for to SLIT MY THROAT.... lol I haven't spent 46 years searching my soul for the meaning to existence, all the while feeling very alone, with me just lately finding the meaning to existence and finding my ancient old soul friends... to end up spending the second half of my life in a bare existence and alone!!!!

ROTFLMAO!!!

At any rate--boy what a task woman! I have to give this some more thought... I'll be back big_smile !

Heehee, glad you like it and looking forward to what you're taking.

We had a programme on ?Radio 4 when I was growing up called "Desert Island Disks" and people used to choose their favourite records to take.  For some reason I thought about this at the weekend and thought it would be a fun thing to do. But we've already done favourite music - so I thought, what the heck, lets go the whole hog!

As a female, I could stereotypically, have gone for far more clothes, but I think that 5 of everything is enough to let your imagination run riot, and not too much that it wouldn't  be a challenge if you did only have 5 of everything!

What was the old saying, life's a bitch and then you die!!  big_smile Kidding - at least this one you can imagine a ship or plane coming and rescuing you.  Or maybe you'll make yourself a life raft.  Or discover an abandoned alien craft that you manage to fix .... roll big_smile

Re: Deserted Island - what would you take?

Maybe some on should point out,

That though you were heading to the tropical region, the plane was actually flying over the ARCTIC, so it is all moot since you don't have a Parka, toque, gloshes or your igloo making kit.

Hehe,

1-2) I would, have an herbal and plant refernce book.(SAS has a                        decent section)
I would have Higher balance material (Foundations and PK) so that when things "click" and I'm bored enough, I can walk across water.
   Journal and pen.

3)Lindt real, dark or hazelnut chocolate.
Barleans green(thankfully I was delivering a case of this when the plane went down)
   Granola based trail mix

4)Fishing net 20-30 yards
  Loin cloth and Doc Martins
  Rain Coat

5) Machete
   Gerber hand tool
   Pan and lid
   Tarp
   powerful magnifying glass

The down side was you didn't allow for work out equipment as I would have my Kettlebells and clubbells with me too.

Peace,
Teddy

Re: Deserted Island - what would you take?

1.  Books

1) The best herbal guide available
2) "The Changewinds" by Jack L. Chalker (a trilogy also, and totally fascinating prize of science fiction)
3) "One" by Richard Bach (to remind me)
4) A dictionary (it's a very interesting book if you think about it)
5) "The Urantia Book" (I purchased this book years ago and wasn't "buying it" after I bought it and tried to get into it. I would bring it along because if the machete thing didn't work out for me [too aggresive] this book would accomplish the task [a kind of passive Hari Kari] lol ) (Although it would also be a good reminder to "keep it real")

2.  DVD (player works on solar panel)

1) Led Zepplin's 4 compact disc set (naturally smile )
2) Heart's Greatest Hits (the first one, with live recordings on it... Snicker! Snort! although I don't know why, I know all their songs by heart... oh yeah, I know why, because I can't sing worth a hill of beans! LOL!)
3) "Vertigo" by Jesse Cook (Latin jazz/music "transports" me everytime!)
4) "throwing copper" by Live (to remind me)
5) Metallica's Greatest Hits (I'd have to purchase this one because I still don't own any Metallica!)

BTW Cipher, I've played this game with myself before--if I was to leave the planet and could take just one music recording with me what would it be? Needless to say, I had a melt-down... this one, no that one, no this one, no that one roll . It wasn't so much fun after just a few moments, thanks for allotting for five!

3.  Favourite junk food

1) My man-critter! (ROTFLMAO! HA! I figured out a way to get around that "alone" gig Cipher! Rather proud of myself for figurin' this one out! Neener-neener-neener... nanee-nanee boo-boo [hmmm... wonder if I spelled that last expletive correctly] smile )
2) An assortment of Chocolate Truffles, and lots of them (no mint ones please)
3) Buffalo Wings w/Ranch dressing, hold the celery
4) Taco Bell Burrito Supremes roll
5) Apple Macadamia Nut pie (my own creation, and a Blue Ribbon recipe wink... hardly junk, but I'm playing along here)

4.  Articles of clothing

If it's a tropical island or an artic island, whatever clothes work the best for the climate like:

1) Shorts and a T or jeans and a pull over wool sweater
2) Close toed water-proofed shoes or Ug Boots
3) Bathing suit or ski bibs, with a matching down jacket
4) Sun hat or one of those fur (faux) hats
5) And one all-purpose head to toe rain coat

5.  Useful articles

1) Stone and flint
2) Water purification tablets, lots of them
3) Packages of seeds to grow food (hopefully the climate would allow for this)
4) A complete fishing tackle box, including net and poles
5) My "Love Rig" (I'll just spin myself right outta there! smile )

... did I already say I'd have a machete or I wouldn't go? big_smile

I'm really curious Cipher, do they actually make CD players with solar panels on them (I've never heard of such a thing)?

If not, and this is just you being pretendingly crafty, then why wouldn't you craft a computer with a solar panel on it? One could then log onto NR and get rescued!

Bugger, that's me out of the game already then!  yikes  And there I was slapping on sunscreen and sunnies cool

lol

Well, you could always use a couple of coconuts (unhusked), or baby icebergs, depending on where you land! But DON'T LICK the icebergs!  tongue

I have no idea, but it would be worth researching.  No, I was just being pretendingly crafty - that's what I love about imagination!  Yeah, well maybe if you get bored, you could fiddle around and turn the CD player into a computer.  Or kill yourself with frustration if you can't get the computer to work, and you've lost a vital part of the CD player and you can't get any music to play either yikes .  ...That might work out better than both book and machete LOL lol lol lol

Well, get yourself ready for a pity-party... one of my vocations has been as a chef. I can cook Mexican food that'll make you think I'm a native Mexican (I worked with a lot of great Mexican guys in CA that taught me)... there's just something about those Burrito Supremes though. But take heart, I've cut back on my consumption of them the past year because... well, because it's Taco Bell. GACK! lol

Cipher wrote:

If you weren't in Aussieland I'd make you one, freeze it, and mail it to you before the summer really sets in... although it becomes a very expensive pie at that point.

My mate's mom who lives in MO, apx. 1,000 miles away, brags about this pie to her friends, she loves it, so for her birthday we overnighted her one. It ended up being about a $90 pie when all was said and done... not a problem for a B-day present, but... wink .

I wouldn't count on the frustrating computer "offing" me... if it were to be the case I'd already be loooooong gone lol . I wouldn't be sitting here about to rant about my computer.

Last Sat. I was unable to access internet or email server. I was getting a Windows window with something about "quota". "Quota schmota" I said and attempted to restart my computer to refresh it and see if that would work... mad I then got a Windows window that said, "You don't have permission to restart or shut down this computer"... What the....!?! My computer is telling ME I don't have permission? BAH! Good thing I don't own a gun! Heeheehee... Click, click, BOOM!!! hmm lol

An NR friend I email with all the time wrote me asking if I was having problems with my 'puter like she was, I told her what I just told you. This was her reply, and one very, very close to what happened (C=computer, V=me)--

C: You don't have permission to restart or shut down this computer
V: @#$%@&^%#$
C: You don't have permission to restart or shut down this computer
V: $&$%^&* ...Really?
C: You don't have permission to restart or shut down this computer
V:  *slapping computer*
C: You don't have permission to restart or shut down  this computer
V: How bout I yank this #$%&#$^ plug of yours?
C: You don't have permi...daisy daisy....

I didn't pull the plug, but the rest of it is oh so true to form roll lol . It took me five hours to calm myself down enough just to call my computer tech... 'I don't have permission...' heeheehee, what nerve, eh? yikes

They say "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"... well, when it comes to computers, at least for me, it's more like "What doesn't kill you will get you in touch with your anger" wink .

Big deep breath... release... rant over.

I'll tell ya though, I just love my computer tech! He's a doll... I call him "The Computer God". He finds my "personal" relationship with my 'puter hilarious... I fail to see the humor smile .

Hey, I've just followed a link from another post:

And it mentioned A Course in Miracles as being phony material channelled (innocently) but used to subvert people?

I like the book.  And found the course itself useful at a certain time in my life.

Does this show that I'm a dummy or what?   neutral roll smile

Re: Deserted Island - what would you take?

G'day Cipher,

There's an established thread on the book started by dreamosis here--

http://noblerealms.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1417

dreamosis wrote:

Recently I was lent a copy of "A Course in Miracles."  I've seen it dozens of times of the shelves, but never picked it up because of its Christian ties (I grew up Mormon and then had my membership cancelled).

I trust the person who lent it to me--although I think she's invested her energy in a few false beliefs.

I've read maybe twenty pages, and am very wary and yet my intuition tells me there is truth in it (but it is not all truth).

I myself attended a few discussion groups in the mid-90's about the material, but the book simply wasn't my bag... no special reason for that, it just was that way for me. Maybe you can resurrect the thread and others more well read on the subject matter will respond.

Cipher wrote:

Awwww... don't be so hard on yourself lovey wink . There's many a text that we find something of ourselves in whether it's disinformation or not... and for that matter, it's hard to find any material that one person or the other isn't going to take issue with, and make that known to the public. You read it, you filter it, you interpret it, and if it worked for you at a certain time in your life, then it worked for you.

We're all trying to figure out this thing called life, no matter who we are and where we're at, and we work with what we've got to work with. Please don't judge yourself harshly, perhaps the way you interpreted it was the truth for you... beyond the disinfo. Ask and answer for yourself this rhetorical question before you beat yourself up: Have I based my whole understanding of life and living on this one book?

And like dreamosis writes--

... and yet my intuition tells me there is truth in it (but it is not all truth).

Lots of channelled material is as such described by dreamosis. It's been said many a time on NR that one should take what resonates with themselves and disregard what doesn't.

I'd sure like to give you a hug right now smile .

Thanks Auendove, I will follow the thread.

Please don't judge yourself harshly, perhaps the way you interpreted it was the truth for you... beyond the disinfo. Ask and answer for yourself this rhetorical question before you beat yourself up: Have I based my whole understanding of life and living on this one book?

A: No, I haven't.  And you're right, I am terribly harsh on myself, I think that's where my achilles heel - self-doubt comes in and squishes me - or sets up panic that I'm on the wrong track.  I set impossibly high standards for myself and then think I'm a dunce when I don't live up to my expectations.  roll

{Lets out deep breath, and relaxes}

Thanks for that, I forget about that trait.  Der! I compare myself to others that I think are more enlightened or knowledgeable than me.  Or take what others say with certainty, as The truth, rather than their truth.  That doesn't help either. roll

And like dreamosis writes--

... and yet my intuition tells me there is truth in it (but it is not all truth).

Lots of channelled material is as such described by dreamosis. It's been said many a time on NR that one should take what resonates with themselves and disregard what doesn't.

You're right.  I'm the first one to tell people that about my tarot readings / articles / channellings / spirit guide drawings etc.  I could do with taking some of my own advice, hey! big_smile

I think its that I intuit my way through life a lot.  That's not to say I don't use my rational thinking.  I do, but it sort of serves my inner guidance.  (And of course I use it to get tasks done etc)  So when I read what others have written here - and so many of NR people seem to be either well read on some subjects, or well researched, that I do come away sometimes feeling like a dummy.  Especially when I've just commented on something I feel has been good for me - and then they come up with a Fact that proves its disinformation!!! roll cool  wink big_smile

I'd sure like to give you a hug right now smile .

Yeah, I could do with a cyber hug.  smile

Funny thing is, Auendove, I've just spent this afternoon drafting a letter to our local newspaper telling some woman to research her facts before she shoots off her mouth.  (Nicely, of course big_smile)  - A turnaround of personality there, I think wink lol

Anyway, I will take what you've said to heart, and try and remember not to panic when I read something that is contradicting my inner truth.  It might still be true and not mean that my whole inner world is collapsing around me.  And it might be that I grow from the experience, so long as I keep an open mind/heart and not take anything too seriously!

Thanks for replying, hug ya too! smile
