Centre of Christianity moves to Africa

(Filed: 26/02/2005)If a clergyman's success is measured by the size of his flock, then Africa's priests stand to inherit the earth. Their congregations are growing faster than any since the earliest years of Christianity.
The pews of Africa's churches now hold 390 million worshippers – more than three times the total of 35 years ago. Over the next two decades, Africa's congregation is likely to grow by another 200 million, causing a huge shift in the character of the Christian faith.
Holy smokescreen! Interesting in the light of speculation that the next Pope might be Cardinal Francis Arinze, a Nigerian who fits the bill perfectly. In light of Christianity's waning influence elsewhere, this is the "new" spiritual frontier with a 21st century twist. History really does repeat...
I find it ironical, bearing in mind the role of the missionaries in carving the spiritual opening that facilitated the use of the gun to colonise Africa from Cairo to the Cape. Maybe Africa is where the Lizards seek to ensconce themselves first before they appear in America? Just my speculations on onepossible scenario in the holographic illusion that is our reality. Heart of Darkness indeed.
