Topic: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

I love playing video games.  I thought I'd list and describe some games that have themes that we as truth seekers would like a lot.

Abe's Oddsye
----------------
In this game you play as Abe, a regular employee of slavery in a place called Rupture Farms.  Rupture Farms is an industry meat factory run by a race called the Glukkons, and they've been hunting creatures called Scrabs and Paramites and chopped up for food.  They've already hunted a race called the Meeches to extinction and are putting the other creatures on the "endangered species list".
Abe started out liking his job as a floor waxer of Rupture Farms, until one day he finds out that since the other creature aren't getting the Glukkons much profit, their going turn Abe's race into food, called Mudokons.  So as Abe, you must escape Rupture Farms and rescue your fellow Mudokons from being turned into "Mudokon Pops"(sic).
Abe has many abilities the game will not teach you how to use right away.  As Abe you must learn how to use the ancient powers every Mudokon has.  What is cool, is that Abe himself never uses any guns to fight his enemies.
The game then consists of braving temples infested with viciously mad Scrabs and Paramites to recieve a new power, the ability to become a godling creature called Shrykull for a limited time.  Then Abe must go back to Rupture Farms with his new power and shut down their operation.

I love this game.  It's old style side-scrolling mario brothers with cool environment puzzles, stealth and run for life sequences, interactive good guys and bad guys, and great artwork with cinematics.  The music also bring the game to life by changing constantly to what is happening around you.  It quites down as you approach a dangerous enemy, but then he might see you and then a heart pounding beat plays as you run and hide for your life.
--------------

Metal Gear Solid 2
--------------
The storyline is too complex for me to explain.  The game gives hints about Majestic 12 and the Illumunati.  The creators of the game tell a story of how nothing is as it seems.  Ultimately, your character eventually discovers he is a pawn being ordered around by a sinister force controlling the government and must get out of the battle he is figthing alive.  The game literally tells the player that the government controlls people with the media and hints that an alien force influences them both.
Most people complained about the storyline, because you mainly play as a different character than the original Metal Gear Solid.  The gameplay consists of stealth, evasion, and epic boss battles.  I must warn you, the game is almost half movie, if you want to understand the story, you must watch all of the game cinematics and listen to all of the dialog.
-------------

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
-------------

In this game, you play as the escape artist Riddick.  The object of the game is to escape the high security prison and get off the planet.  For all of you escapist truth seekers, you might like the game.  (you get to play Riddick dude) Riddick is one tough bad ass, everyone is scared of him, including the inmates.  He stealthy. tough, smart, takes no crap from anybody, and knows himself pretty well.  You'll laugh when the enemy finally catches you and decides to put you in a higher security cell instead of doing the intelligent thing, killing you while they still have the chance.  For those of you who always wanted to hijack a rocket, take it into orbit, jump in an alien saucer, and punch a grey in the face, this is your kind of game.
If your someone who doesn't like violence that much, you probably should just avoid playing this game.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

Try out: Deus Ex, Gabriel Knight, Broken Sword, Half Life 2.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

I love Deus Ex and the sequel. I haven't played Half-Life 2 yet, but I'm going to get it eventually.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

Gabriel Knight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I don't know anything about the newer games, I lost interest when adventure games died.  But I think most people here would love the GK series.  The third (and last) game was centered around Rennes le Chateau, and the bloodlines and all.

The pic on the left is from the NV desert outside Area 51.  The guy has his whole travel photo collection online. I thought this one was pretty clever.

haha that pic is funny!
(can u link to his other photos?)

Abe's Odyssey is a great game, a VERY VERY awesome game.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater is out now, i tried this one out. Very cool, but let me tell you it is VERY REALISTIC.
you are alone on this mission (when aren't you) but this time you're in a jungle. u gotta catch food, gotta eat, gotta change camoflauge to blend in, and all that jazz. climb trees, hide in the tall grass, paint your face.... a true SURVIVOR game...

good topic, if i think of other games in this area ill be sure to post them.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

Videogames actually contain a lot of valuable information when you look for it:) Especially I have appreciated the games from (Enix-)Square: the Final Fantasy is a gem, but there are other goodies out there: Chrono Cross about time travels etc; Parasite Eve about mitochondria, psychic abilities and mutants and more; Final Fantasy Tactics, about secret societies, secret zodiacal signs and more; my absolute favorite is XenoGears, about gnosticism, qabalah, mysticism: it's the abolutely most brilliant game out there in my opinion, with wonderful music, cool robots and deep philosohical/spiritual truths:)
Also, the XenoSaga on PS2; another brilliant game.

And of course the (magic)mushroom land of Super Mario wink

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

I havent posted on the forums for awile.  I was browsing and saw this had another reply.

DX forums?  Moniker?  Don't know what those are.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

I'm a gamer.  I play Neverwinter Nights every night and have done so for over 5 years.  Can you say - addicted!

I even have a tattoo of the NWN logo.  What can I say?

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

Sorry 3! DX forums would be just any forums related to Deus Ex. moniker would be any nickname you may have used while posting there.

So tell me what are your favorite parts of DX and DX2IW? I've never talked with anyone outside of other DX forums about the game. Besides zonabi.

ya NWN, I worked with a guy who got himself a bit addicted to it (while at work). I only play FPS (first-person shooter) myself. Play any of those?

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

I loved Deus Ex, but I really was disapointed in the sequel, seemed like it wasn't open enough..wasn't eye opening enough...just..not good..

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

yea, hated DX2IW as well. BUT I did find one part of it VERY eye opening - the part where you finally warp into the beginning of the Antartica level and the Grays are standing there waiting for you! I wasn't expecting that! And then, also, it's against the 'rules' of the game to kill them! If you try to kill them (at that point in the game - actually the Grays first appearance IN the game) then you get an info-link message telling you to not do it and that they are your friends!

So, yea - wow! The Grays are your friends!

You do get to kill them later, though so that part was kinda okay I guess . . .

And then later in the Antartica level where you get into the abandoned lab - the music and the atmosphere there was impressive to me. It was actually REALLY scarry to me - scarrier than any video game I had ever played.

Re: Video Games Themes for the Truth Seekers

The Greys are servants of JC Denton, and you're killing them, Xeno, you evil...

I'm currently working on a giant moduel for NWN.  Once I get my server computer, my cool world will be open 24/7.  I'll post about its launch when its ready.  It might be a month or two.

Deus Ex 2 was way too easy for me.  I used stealth mods and nothing ever saw me.
My favorite part was the last battle and four different endings.
I didn't like it as much as the first.  The enemies were really dumb and prox mines were crap and never used against you.

Anyone tried the Area 51 game?  Is it good?  I'm thinking about buying it.

See because that game wasn't about wining. It was about choosing what to fight for but mostly about making the point that there is no 'right' side. Killing JC and his grays is necessary to see two of the four endings. I've only seen three of the endings but the Illuminati ending was definitely the best one I've seen - and it also happens to be the least likely route most would probably take. You would have to side with the Illuminati even though the game demonizes them and they kidnap your friend. The Illuminati ending mentions the Ophelia computer that controls the world. That game blows big hose anyhow, that's why I only mod the original Deus Ex.
