Re: someone's gotta a birthday!

Happy birthday to you from little London Auendove,

Your birthday is at the tail end of the Leonid meteor shower displays, which occur when comet Tempel-Tuttle orbits the earth.  Check out the link below for brief details.

Apparently there is a rather spectacular series ongoing as we speak, but as I am in the middle of polluted built-up London, all I see is cloudy grey skies. sad  Your location may be better. Your very own cosmic fireworks display on your birthday! The showers carry on till the end of November, but the highlights (brightest and more frequent)  should peak today in some areas.

With a great week to reflect on as Lyra mentioned, it seems this is a good time for feline friends smile

Every November 17-18 Earth crosses the orbit of comet Tempel-Tuttle and the Leonids become visible. An observer with clear, dark skies can see 10 or 15 Leonid meteors every hour on that morning. Unless an observer is living at a very high northern latitude (generally within the Arctic Circle), the Leonids are only visible during the morning hours.

Since Tempel-Tuttle passed closest to the sun in February of 1998, the years following were expected to produce very strong displays. Displays of 250-300 per hour occurred in 1998, 3700 per hour occurred in 1999, and 480 per hour occurred in 2000. During the mornings of November 17 and 18 observers anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere should see greater than normal displays. Start watching sometime after about 11:30 p.m. local time (because of Earth's rotation, local time literally means "your time"). The radiant will still be about an hour from rising, but you will have the opportunity to see the "Grazers". These are Leonids that are not dropping down into Earth's atmosphere, but are instead grazing the atmosphere. These appear as reddish meteors that advance from east to west across a large part of the sky. In 1998 there were reports that several east coast television stations were receiving calls that rockets were seen crossing the sky. These "rockets" were in fact the Leonid grazers. As the radiant rises near 12:30 a.m. local time, the Leonids will travel shorter distances across the sky as they drop down into the atmosphere. Their color will also change to white and blue-white. Some of the brightest will actually appear slightly greenish.

Well, I'll be, it's your B-day too? How cool-a-mundo is that my Scorpio Brother! Yipee!

I bet you're not 46 years old though roll

I really learned this week that it's true, that one is as old as they think they are! I was being all worried that I was heading for a mid-life crisis, but, heeheehee, not this woman!

When I went to the river Tues. the water was running faster because its level was up, and we were paddlin' upstream "against the wind".... and I pushed myself so hard. I figured that if I could paddle upstream, "against the wind" and not be sore then I'd be doing good. I had not one sore muscle! big_smile Yipee!

I've got a sixer of Heinie's, my man-critter got me Def Leppard's Greatest Hits for my gift (mimi, more meow!), he's cooking for me tonight... I have nothing left to do tonight but have FUN!!! Snicker! Snort! And I plan on doing some profound regressin' this evening big_smile big_smile big_smile! .... "c'mon let's get, lets get, let's get rock!" I love Def Leppard! Yipee!

If I'm 46 and I feel this great mind, body, and spirit then I'm doin' a damn good job of livin'... and that's what it's all about! I remembered earlier today about when I was a kid and I thought about being 40-something in the 2000's... I'm not sure, but I think I shuddered... but no worries... it's all good, eh? wink

Thank you so very much for all the well-wishes, you're all so very sweet... and mushy-gushy-me, I love youse guys!!  And no, I'm not tipsy... at least not yet!!

Cheers! Here's to LIFE y'all! big_smile big_smile big_smile
