Topic: ...is Doctor Who an old conspiracy idea that just won't stop working?

...I've been considering many of the TV representations of aliens, and it struck me that one of the most eccentric AND positive images of "alien helping mankind" is the British series, Doctor Who. The show has been around as long as I've been incarnate, and it's far more attractive than any american idea. I'm wondering if anyone else here has been struck by the attraction of an eccentric alien in a cranky old police box, interfering with other alien plots simply because he wants to? Any reaction?

interesting...

i have noticed that there have been little references (almost like knowing nudges) within the scripts from the last two doctors (eccleston and tennant) towards situations being played out at the moment... nothing too crazy... the power of the media... little pops at the us government. the episode about the media being manipulated by an alien to control earth was quite interesting in that respect.

the new series have their faults (hollywood action soundtrack) but have been one of the few things worth watching from either side of the pond.
