That is really interesting! From seeing those paintings alone, my guess would have been that he was painting more and more non-visible aspects of reality, which other people couldn't understand. I see a steady progression from the mundane physical images to pure energy forms. The one with "waves" makes me wonder if the guy was starting to really see energy fields or auras. The next one looks totally psychedelic, like you'd see while on hallucinogens. The final image reminds me of a mandala.
I'd be curious to know what the guy was actually like, and what he was saying, as his schizophrenia progressed.
