Topic: Nissan's $3000 car for the Indian market only!

During a recent shareholder's meeting in Tokyo the C.E.O. of Nissan announced the plans for Nissan to build a $3000 car specifically for the Indian market. This is the proposed retail price with a margin of about $600.00. In a cooperative with Renault {biggest p.o.s. on the planet} it sounds as though they're gearing up to supply all those new employees of outsourced American and Canadian jobs with the most affordable vehicle available. It appears to be more a case of having the task imposed on Nissan than winning some sort of mega contract. So who's subsidizing this little mess, because you can't build a car and ship it somewhere for $2400.00. It kind of reminds me of the VW Beetle's here in the states in the late 50's.

I wonder what gas costs in India....

The US auto market continues to push excessively large vehicles, while Ed Begley and that chick from Baywatch try to make themselves Green icons because they own hybrids, or electrics.

Did I mention hybrids are a joke?  The recycling of a hybrid is far costlier and environmentally UNsound than a conventional car, first of all, and the industry knows this is a teaser because the economy won't permit this on a large scale.

Drive a Hummer, support the war machine.  That should be our motto.
That's the real problem, the oil indstry IS the war machine, and also FEEDS the war machine. The average American is paying well over $2 per gallon just in tax.
No new refineries have been built in over 30 years, and the average price to refine a gallon is 62 cents if I remember correctly.

I also think the taxes are helping to hide the devaluation of the dollar.

I got derailed, sorry... but really if the US had any real interest in easing the environmental and financial burden, SUVs would be OUTLAWED! And they would be promoting driving the smallest vehicle you could get away with.

It also occurred to me that Europe has much less of a petroleum based economy, it is evident just from comparing the size of the average vehicle
between both sides of the Atlantic.

Does the size of our vehicles alone illuminate the attitude and blind status-building consumerism of the average American? I'm afraid so.

I'd drive a smaller car if I wasn't 6 foot 2 and 230 pounds, I just don't fit well in 'em.

But yeah, who is subsidizing, that is an excellent question, Shine. That does not seem possible without a little outside help...                                                     J

I agree that the oil industry is subsidizing this project. The cars may be cheap, but the gas won't be. Inkjet and Laser printers used to be quite expensive in the UK, but now you can get superb fast, colour printers for very very cheap prices. The fact is the fuel (inkjet cartidges and toners) is where the real profits come from. The worrying aspect is that the booming economies in Asia, particularly China , mean that more and more people are going to be adding to the problems of pollution on the planet, as they celebrate thier new prosperity, but at the same time, they are adding to global pollution.

I wonder what China is going to end up as. They are forcing the poor, rural communities to migrate into new designer cities, each one named after the sole product it is manufacturing, 'Bra City', 'Durex City', 'Vibrator City' etc... What happens when the bottom drops out of 'Hot Pants City'?.. What happens when the shit hits the fan? - there will be no farmers to be able to go back to work the land, to basic living. It all smacks of gathering everyone together for mass loosh farming to me.

I was going to make that comment just about now.

As oil is pretty much their commodity now, cars will be like inkjet printers: the money is on the "ink".

In the f*cking country named Brazil to buy a car you pay 60% for tax!
Everything is FULL overtaxed, you pay pay pay and have NOTHING in return.
