Topic: Alex Grey

Is anybody here familiar with the art of Alex Grey?

If not you've got to check this guy out, he inspires the hell out of me! Even just looking at his work makes you feel like you've entered a higher realm!

He has quite a lot of his paintings on his website, but to really appreciate his work you need to see much larger prints because there's so much detail in them.

But if you go to his website http://www.alexgrey.com/

Click on 'Paintings' on the left. Then click on 'Progess of the Soul' and then work your way down the list. These will blow your mind!

If you want to see his work printed much bigger then there's 2 books you can buy from Amazon. These are 'Transfigurations'  and 'Sacred Mirrors'

Re: Alex Grey

You know what would be mind blowing?  If his art work was made into jigsaw puzzles... Holy kwap!  I would have a melt down. big_smile

Alex Grey's work is very visionary.

Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

I suggest you email Alex if you like his work so much - he is very nice and generally very responsive to emails he gets.

i suggest you watch his movies as well under performances.

"the human race" came out to be such an exact microcosm of our human race in its entirety, watch and youll see what i mean. even the unexpected delay of the motor and wild ending match perfectly the metaphor being portrayed. almost like he planned it, and it was meant to go that way (which it was)

im watching his other movies now.

Re: Alex Grey

Okay, I finally found the topic for Alex Gray!

Nice avatar! I have that one too. Are you familiar with Alex Gray's work on the Tool album cover for Lateralus? They're my favorite band, so I'm automatically obligated to share with you the lyrics from 'Reflection' off of Lateralus.

" . . . so crucify the ego, before it's far too late, and leave behind this place - so - negative and blind and cynical, and you will come to find, that we are all one mind, and capable of all that's imagined and all concievable, just let the light touch you, just let the words spill through, just let them pass right through, bringing out our hope and reason . . ."

Gray's artistic style was also used in Tools music video for 'Parabola'. The end of the video depicts the transformation of man into a body of light.

If you like Alex Gray's art, then you might like Salvador Dali. My father, Charles Wm. Burwell III happens to be an artist who has painted a copy of Salvador Dali's work: 'Madonna of Port Lligat'. It is located in his online gallery here -

Gray also has a collection in one of his books which depicts the process of childbirth from conception to childhood.

Re: Alex Grey

I just found that Gray's art is also used for the cover of the book
