Topic: The Jesus Family Tomb: The Discovery That Will Change History Forever

Synopsis
Were the remains of Jesus's body found over 25 years ago and the truth hidden? Now, 'The Jesus Tomb' tells the shattering story of what may very well be the greatest archaeological find of all time -- the discovery of the Jesus family tomb. 'The Jesus Tomb' is the most exciting real-life archaeological detective story ever told. In 1980 a crypt was accidentally discovered in Jerusalem. Inside were ossuaries (bone boxes) with inscriptions bearing the names of Jesus of Nazareth, the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Judah, the son of Jesus. The artefacts were recorded and catalogued and then locked away for over a quarter of a century. But the tomb itself wasn't destroyed -- it's under the foundations of a modern apartment. In 2005, documentary filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici gained permission to break the floor and re-enter the tomb. Together with top forensic archaeologist Charles Pellegrino and the team involved in the original discovery, he started an earth-shattering investigation that will shock the Judeo-Christian world. In a rollercoaster narrative combining history, archaeology and cutting-edge science, the book reveals: / The startling connection between these tombs, 'Tomb of the 10 Ossuaries', and the famous 'James Ossuary', the apparent remains of Jesus's brother discovered in 2003. / The gripping account of the DNA testing on the remains of the bones in a New York crime lab, plus residues from the inscriptions on the tombs. They prove that statistically, there is a 1 in 10 million chance that this is a family other than the Holy family. / The latest research on how the 'forgotten' gospels, e.g. the Gnostic gospels and Gospel of Mary, hint at the truth of this discovery.

Wow!  That's just...wow.  Anyone care to speculate on the implications of this (alleged) discovery?  I'm floored!

Oh, and I see there's a discussion started on it already over at Godlike Productions:

Re: The Jesus Family Tomb: The Discovery That Will Change History Forever

I guess we'll find a lot of tombs with Jesus written on it in 500 years, that won't mean anything serious;)

Re: The Jesus Family Tomb: The Discovery That Will Change History Forever

Um... I thought Jesus and Mary ascended their physical bodies into light.  I don't believe there were physical remains left behind.

Re: The Jesus Family Tomb: The Discovery That Will Change History Forever

They mentioned this documentary on a local radio station this morning. If anything is to come out of this ‘discovery,’ it won’t be any different than any other religious discovery; there will be those who accept it as authentic, those who are skeptical, and those who straight-out deny it and label it a hoax. I’m sorry, but this won’t be any more of a catalyst than the Shroud, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Da Vinci Code were. The only thing positive I can see coming out of this is a rise in the interest in Gnosticism, but then again, that could be a bad thing.

Re: The Jesus Family Tomb: The Discovery That Will Change History Forever

I hear ya, Hermit Brad.  I came to pretty much the same conclusion last night after spending a bit of time digging around (pardon the pun) about it on the internet.  I did make a few discoveries about myself while I was at it though, so that's positive.  I have a nasty habit of not looking before I leap, I can be way too naive sometimes and I am not cut out for bible study.

So that's it for archaeology then, huh?  Same goes for investigative journalism?  No matter what turns up, in the end it's all just one big looshfest?  (Somewhat rhetorical questions, it's just hard not to feel discouraged).

By the way, morningsun76, thanks for the video link.  I didn't realize that religion had such deep astrological roots.

[Edit - hey morningsun, was it you who mentioned an ebook in one of your posts called "the way out" or something along those lines? i believe it was passed along from montalk.  if so, do you know where i might find a copy of that?]

Y'all have to read this article by Laura K.J. for a critical analysis of this pseudo-scientific discovery.

Bottom line: it's a scam. period. A very dangerous and provocative scam.

Did you ever notice that we can say about anything about Jesus: that he didn't exist, that he wasn't divine, that he didn't resurrect, etc.   But we can't criticize anything from the jewish faith, not to speak of Israel...
Conspiracy against christianity, that's clear.

Good find Druid,
I heard a fellow named Bill Schnoebelen make the statement a few years back that this was coming. All preplanned to take a bite of out Christianity. It's a Zio/Masonic poison.
