Yeah, like the government is suddenly going to perk up and say, "OH, you mean you DON'T want to be tracked and taxed like an animal?   You DON'T want a chip inserted into your brain?  OHHHH, well why didn't you just SAY SO?   Silly us, just a miscommunication!   We'll go ahead and cancel those plans straight away, old chap!"

Not bloody likely.

Cool, it's the "British Lingo" thread!   We've got "bloody" and "chap" and even "snog."  I think sinaptix maybe meant "song," but snog is British slang for kiss, so it fits in there anyway!  wink  I'll toss in "taking the piss" and "knickers" and "the lift."

haha Sorry, back to our regularly scheduled Big Brother NWO programming!

Re: Final day to sign UK road tax petition

Yeah, I picked up some of that last summer in Holland.  Everyone speaks English, but often it's British variety, and that can occasionally be a bit confusing for us Yanks!   The weirdest one, I thought, was that they refer to the cafeteria as "the canteen."   I always thought a canteen was something soldiers drink their water out of!   And in my company's canteen, they FORCED you to pay for your food using a special chip that everyone has attached to their debit cards.  This "Chip-Knip" is actual e-cash and you "download" money from your bank account onto it, using a special ATM machine.   The Netherlands is ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing a cashless society.  And practically no one over there accepts credit cards.  Just ATM and Chip.

Oh well I'd apologize for taking a thread off-topic, but I suspect not too much else is going to come of this petition anyway, so it doesn't matter.   Though in this case I'd welcome being proven wrong!

Just don't ever mention the word fanny or fanny pack if you come to the UK as it means something else altogether smile

but back on topic i think the Gov taking the petition down is a gift as it sends a bigger message out than even all those electronic signatures, one minister even said something like we cant have such a public display of opposition to our transport plans. Clear as crystal.

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

lyra, I did mean Snog. Snog is a band, and that was a quote from one of their songs...

I hate reading the news. On top of blatantly ignoring the will/concerns of the people and going forward with their plans, another new headline from U.K: Privacy row as checks on phones and e-mails hit 439,000. And as it goes, this is just what they tell you in public. Never mind what they're doing now and not telling people. Remember remember the 5th of November... Maybe Stuie will end up being right on this one.

It's all a load of bollocks anyway.
