When I was a kid I loved Inca Cola (I think it's now owned by Coca Cola and made in NJ or somewhere out there), and they had a Kool-Aid kind of drink called Chicha (sounds like, and non-alcoholic version of the corn beer, and that was my favorite drink). Fried yuca (root, sort of like french fries), and fried bananas are awesome. I don't think there's too much site-seeing where I used to live. Hate to say I've forgotten so much and it was so long ago since I was there. I don't know much about getting around or where to go outside of the standard tourist stuff. I don't know how it is now, but back when I was there it was a haven for pickpockets and thiefs. Be aware, never leave your bags unattended, wrap the bag straps around your arm or leg, so if someone tries to steal a bag from literally out beneath your feet, you got a handle on it. They used to, and probably still do, hire young children to sneak around and rip off unsuspecting tourists. My parents knew people who had been ripped off for $1000s of dollars because they didn't pay close enough attention. In America it is so casual and 99.9% of people don't do stuff like they did down there (and for me this is like 20 years ago). So don't make it easy for people to pick-pocket you, etc. Otherwise it's a beautiful country, and everyone I've heard from who visited loved it.
I an not much a friend o drinking stuff, but chicha I will never drink!
That disgusting thing is made with saliva! ![]()
They use the saliva to ferment...

You have to check the weather there, because it is summer and
if there is +- like here you will almost only get rain(check the region), but
when the sun shines do not forget the sunglasses and solar filter, maybe a hat...
It's almost 10 years since I was in Peru so my memory is a little hazy. I'll assume you're going to spend some time in Cuzco which is a fantastic place. While there make sure you get to the ruins at Sacsayhuaman which are incredible.
If you're going to Machu Picchu then try and stop off in the sacred valley which is beautiful. I've forgotten the place I spent the night but I've a strong feeling it was Ollantaytambo.
Also if you're going to Lake Titicaca make sure you visit and spend the night on the island of Amantani. There's no hotels there, instead you stay with families who live on the island who cook for you and look after you. Highly recommended!
