Re: 'unusual' weather

The winds in my area have been going at it for 3-4 weeks.  Most times at 50-80 mph.  I can't figure it out since the winds are coming from the north and the mountains are right there (maybe two miles away)...why aren't they blocking it?  We have mountains surrounding us on the north and the east yet the winds are reaming us.  My family has lived here for over twenty five years and there have never, ever been winds like this not even anything remotely close.  A month ago they were cold winds, now they are warm like Santa Anas, but they are continuously savage.  Get this, the winds are only ravaging an area consisting of 15 by 8 miles.  It stops instantly, and I mean instantly when you are one step out of this range.  Driving on the freeway is weird because you can be whizzing along at the average 75-80 California freeway mph and boom the wind hits and everyone instantly slows to 30 until they get the drift.  Just as instantly the wind stops and everyone speeds up.  The dogs and cats are petrified, even the animals that live outside in the elements year round are afraid and will sit and scream.  We keep flashlights and phones close.
It's too spooky...:o

Re: 'unusual' weather

I have also noticed in general, more reports of what the media terms "freak storms".  These are normally very sudden and very short lived and are normally just bursts of high winds, sometimes with a sudden down pour of rain, but usually just the winds doing the damage.  I presume they are termed "freak" due to their uncanny strength and the observation they appear to come out of nowhere.  I'm not saying this is what you experienced Ontrack24, just food for thought so to speak.

It has seemed to me the winds have increased here also - just in general, high speed winds more of the time.  If other people have noticed any changes regarding winds in general or unusual occurances it would be good to hear about them - we might get a bit of anecdotal evidence going with regards to wind changes.

Artificial weather influencing is a part of the equation that makes up the current state of things.  It is mainly used to exacerbate a storm or tension that has already begun.  Though it is not a large part of the equation - which is mainly due to some help from outside, it is still larger than any "man-made emissions", at least to my knowledge.  That is not to take away from the damage being done by our pollutants either.

Expect much change including changes to the habitats of various animals, (hopefully government bodies etc will try to help where possible as they may be doing with the polar bears) but the changes and 'turmoils' need not be feared or worried about as the controlled media would like you to do.

Re: 'unusual' weather

That was some story, ontrack24.  !  Very interesting.  Yeah, I wonder if it was a jet stream that somehow swooped down to the surface, or "something else."   There was a story last year regarding a jet stream that came down over the Czech republic I think it was, where an entire forest of trees was knocked over from the winds that were hundreds of miles per hour.  I think the story was recent too, and not a story about something that happened in the past.  Does anybody here remember the story or know what I'm talking about?

______

So, "global warming" is now pretty much in the news every single day.  Here's a story with an interesting spin though, tying into the mysterious natural gas odors that have been reported the past week in the northeast:

Rense.com wrote:

Has Methane Started Venting From Seafloor?
By Wayne Madsen

The environmental "surge" you're not hearing anything about.

According to U.S. maritime industry sources, tanker captains are reporting an increase in onboard alarms from hazard sensors designed to detect hydrocarbon gas leaks and, specifically, methane leaks.  However, the leaks are not emanating from cargo holds or pump rooms but from continental shelves venting increasing amounts of trapped methane into the atmosphere. With rising ocean temperatures, methane is increasingly escaping from deep ocean floors. Methane is also 21 more times capable of trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

In fact, one of the major sources for increased methane venting is the Hudson Submarine Canyon, which extends 400 miles into the Atlantic from the New York-New Jersey harbor. Another location experiencing increased venting is the Santa Barbara Channel on the California coast.

Fuel tankers reporting increased methane venting from sea beds.

Meanwhile, a strong natural gas odor was reported this morning in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Jersey City, Weehawken, and Newark. The strong odor was also detected in Union City, Secaucus, and Hoboken. Last August, a similar unexplained gas odor sent people to the hospital in Staten Island and Queens.  Although methane is odorless, natural methane venting is often accompanied by the venting of acrid hydrogen sulfide, a byproduct of bacterial decomposition.

The US Coast Guard sent a message to ships and tugs in the bay and ocean south of New York requesting any reports of the odor being detected at sea. There were also an unconfirmed report of a similar strong odor being detected this morning on the Delaware coast near Lewes. This morning, the prevailing winds in New York and New Jersey were southerly at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

In other global warming news, the warm temperatures on the U.S. East Coast are resulting in early blooming of the cherry trees and azaleas in Washington, DC and New York City, apple and peach trees in Maryland, and roses, forsythias, and crocuses in Connecticut. A number of people along the East Coast are suffering from allergies usually experienced in April. Monk parakeets from South America have invaded the Chicago area.

George W. Bush continues to insist that global warming is "silly science" based on "fuzzy math." Corporate news media masters are pressuring plastic-faced and neatly-coiffured TV weathermen to treat the current abnormal warm weather as an unexpected "gift" for their viewers. The latte-sipping and SUV-driving yuppies in Washington, DC are certainly taking the current weather abnormality in stride -- they almost appear ecstatic about the weather, obviously unaware that the future of our planet is hanging on a thread.

http://rense.com/general74/meth.htm

Like free*world mentioned on the previous page, they sure are promoting the man-made global warming theory with a vengence.  After years of the mainstream media/science refusing to acknowledge anything about "the greenhouse effect" as it used to be called, they suddenly latch onto this, and are featuring stories in the news on a now daily basis??

I know things have gotten weird, climate/weather wise, but still..........................when has that ever stopped them from denying anything?   TPTB will deny stuff til the cows come home and have blatently lied about stuff for years.  So we're supposed to believe that they only just now recognize the error of their ways and now finally admit to global warming?   Right!  They only admit stuff when it suits an agenda, period.  Al Gore being paraded around for his global warming film and book was also mentioned by free*world.....what's interesting there is that several people and sources have cited Al Gore as being a mind control pawn, recognizing his body language as being that of literal "puppet programming," and so on.  And now he's the spokesperson out there in the world promoting global warming.  hmmmmmmmmmmm.   wink   I don't know, just makes me wonder.

Re: 'unusual' weather

roll  I too, am very familiar with the area Pamelajean is talking about.  A week or so ago it was necessary to walk outdoors to another area of my workplace, probably the equilavent of 2-3 blocks.  The winds were like something out a sci-fi movie, extraordinary, fierce,  and authoritative.  I came very close to being knocked off my feet a couple of times and wondered if the return trip was even going to be possible!!!!

A few months back, during the Fall, strong winds combined with some of the most unusal cloud patterns appeared.  The clouds gave way to a few, but brief "mega" showers.  It looked like someone had drawn a blackish/grey marker pen across the horizen from east to west more or less.  Winds were coming from the east, so they were the Santa Ana's but with more of a "kick."

Well, this seemed to be an opportune time to check out all the excitement and I ran into the house to get the binoculars, it seemed possible a funnel cloud could appear.  Scanning the sky facing east whole standing next to the gate, a huge swirling gust of wind could be seen traveling down the street.  Leaves and massive palm fronds were flying everywhere.......in a circular pattern.  It came so fast, and so strong, it was necessary to duck down and hold on to the gate and part of the wall of the house!!!!   The only other time I've ever come close to experiencing something like this was while running towards the shelters during a tornado warning in Wichita Falls.

Re: 'unusual' weather

In all fairness to the wind,  manyeagles is teeny.  Just kidding, it does get up to, at least, 80-85 mph and that's a bit of blowing.  The roof of the house next door blew into my yard. Santa Anas do get rowdy, but never like what's happening now.  Hurrican winds + no rain = no more top soil, savage fires and lots of money for those that repair the damage, etc.

I've been freaking on the same idea for a while. Peak Oil, Man-Made global warming, Denial followed by "oops! our bad! now we need martial law for the water wars" while maybe they knew it was coming for 50 years... artifice or HD inevitability, it doesn't matter.

TPTB will use any angle on any meme to their advantage. Truth will serve their lies, psychopaths see only win-win situations.

Sounds funny, but the most tragicomical figure of italian right-wing propaganda, Emilio Fede (Rete4 TV), is actually a litmus paper for the current current. He's been pulling a lot of fake humility/preoccupation on the global warming topic for about a year now.

Where can I find some more on the Gore-Robot evidence? I thought that that thought was a meme TV placed in me subliminally, as I've always thought that.

Kinda like I thought "osama bin laden" when I saw the 2nd tower fall live (Today show on AFRTS), though I wasn't even sure where the name came from when I thought it!!

I completely missed the story on Madsen, though I check him often. Schlepping off now to see what's new down that way....

I put "high winds" 2007 into Google News' search box and it seems like there is unusually high wind activity all over the place.   I wonder how (a)typical these results are compared to Januaries from previous years.

I don't think they are comparible to previous years - at least not around this area.

No floods here, but the winds just haven't let up.

Last night at about 10pm there we had a perfectly clear night sky - clearer than we normally get, it was also quite mild with no wind.  Then within an hour it totally clouded over and the winds picked up, they haven't stopped since.

Bathers Hit Mediterranean While Ski Resorts Suffer
By Alister Doyle
Environment Correspondent

OSLO (Reuters) - Swimmers are enjoying winter dips in the Mediterranean, ski resorts from Canada to France have laid off workers and shops are axing prices of thick coats at the start of what scientists say be the warmest year on record.

With unusually high temperatures, dazed bears in Moscow zoo have just dropped off for winter hibernation after months of insomnia while peacocks in a Bulgarian zoo have laid eggs, reckoning spring has long since arrived.

Warmth has brought peach, plum and apricot blossoms months early in Italy and snow drop flowers are blooming in Chicago. Some farmers worry that sprouting crops are vulnerable to frost.

"We are in a period of extreme events," said Achim Steiner, head of the U.N. Environment Programme, noting five months of floods in east Africa and melting Alpine glaciers.

Global warming, stoked by greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels, and an El Nino warming of the Pacific Ocean are widely blamed by scientists for mild weather that contributed to push below $53 a barrel on Thursday, a new 19-month low.

Steiner said governments should cut greenhouse gases and work out how to adapt to more heat -- the 10 warmest years since records began 150 years ago have been since 1994.

"Climate change, whether this is linked to greenhouse gases or not, is real and it's getting more extreme," he told Reuters.

Against a warming trend, California has put out a warning of a looming freeze in coming days. In Bahrain, people have donated winter clothes to poor Indian immigrants after a cool December.

SWIM, NOT SKI

Spain's southern region of Andalucia has had temperatures of almost 20 Celsius (68.00F) in recent days and people are still swimming in the Mediterranean -- normally too chilly in winter.

A lack of snow has upset the Alpine World Cup ski calendar and France's Val d'Isere will host two men's races on Jan. 20-21 originally scheduled for Chamonix.

In Europe, workers have been laid off in ski resorts from France to Norway. Canada's Blue Mountain resort in Ontario closed twice this season and temporarily laid off 1,000 workers.

Still, some skiers are still able to make a joke of it all. Austria's Rainer Schoenfelder, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist, skied naked alongside the famed Lauberhorn downhill course after losing a dare with his physiotherapist.

"I am happy ... that it was not cold when I carried out my forfeit," he said of Wednesday's stunt, wearing only ski boots, gloves and an orange helmet.

The United Nations says 2006 was the sixth warmest year worldwide since records began in the 1860s. U.S. government forecasters say 2006 was the warmest in the United States since records began there 112 years ago.

And Britain's Meteorological Office has projected that 2007 will be the warmest worldwide on record, because of global warming and the El Nino weather phenomenon in the Pacific.

In Belgium, for example, average temperatures were 11.8 Celsius (53.24F) in early 2007 -- typical of June.

The heat means shoppers are finding winter bargains.

"Shop stockrooms are full of heavy coats, consumers will have more choice and probably bigger discounts than last year," Roberto Borghi, chairman of Italy's fashion retailers' association, told Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper.

But many farmers are worried.

In South Africa, hailstones the size of tennis balls pounded the Eastern Cape province, killing small livestock, in the summer month of December, the national weather service said.

Europe's wheat farmers had ideal weather in the autumn but plants are vulnerable. "The risk of frost damage and winterkill is ... higher than normal," French analyst Strategie Grains said.

And pests usually killed by cold are surviving -- also raising fears in some nations of more cases of malaria.

In the Nordic region, mild temperatures have helped cut the number of accidents on normally icy roads. And construction workers are working on outdoor sites normally frozen.

http://rense.com/general75/wew.htm

While there's no doubt that the climate/weather is a bit....unusual this year, the fact is, environmentalists have been screaming about it for decades, while "they" denied it all or just ignored it.  Until now.  Agenda, anybody?  Something very weird is going on here, and I don't take any of this at face value.

Re: 'unusual' weather

The middle of the country just can't catch a break lately.  !  Here's a link to the wunderground.com image of the U.S.  http://www.wunderground.com/  That's some strange looking weather front activity happening in the middle of the country.  Would be helpful to get some feedback from those who know weather/cloud busting as to whether this is "normal" or not.

PS Edit:   feedback on this indicates that it appears someone or something in the 4-corners area did "stuff" that was aimed northeast.  There are these circular lines of low pressure suspiciously centered right over the 4-corners, and the jet stream is all pointing northeast.  Something to consider, anyway.  Not all weather is natural, that's for sure.  !  The scary part is, all it takes are some pieces parts from Lowes or Home Depot to create some HELLACIOUS weather.  And I do mean nasty.   I've witnessed it, so I know cloudbusting is real.   If the average Joe can do it from parts gathered at their local hardware store, then just imagine what "they" can do.  Which means a nasty storm situation such as this didn't necessarily have to originate from some high up "thems."  Some every day person could have done it as well.

Ice storm threatens chaos

(CNN) -- Freezing rain hit Oklahoma on Friday at the start of what forecasters say could be a brutal ice storm.

Millions of people in the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma and eastern Missouri are being warned that conditions will deteriorate Friday afternoon, and the storm could spread as far east as Ohio and New York over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

"This is a one-in-maybe-15- to 25-year event," CNN severe weather expert Chad Myers said Friday of the forecast freezing rain, sleet and snow. (Watch Myers explain why the event is so significant )

"The big story will be how many roads are shut down, airports are shut down and how many power lines are down because of the ice this weekend," Myers added.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, up to St. Louis, Missouri, could see "devastating consequences," Myers warned Friday. "You won't be able to get in or out of St. Louis tomorrow."

In Oklahoma City, Interstate 40 likely will shut down, he said.

Drivers already have had trouble on the roads there, with a truck slipping and flipping over, Oklahoma City TV station KWTV reported. One person was killed in that accident, KWTV said.

The city's Will Rogers World Airport already was seeing cancellations by Friday morning. As of noon CT (1 p.m. ET), United, Continental, Northwest, American, Southwest and British Airways had reported cancellations, according to the airport's Web site.

Tulsa International Airport also reported more than a dozen cancellations by noon.

Warnings announced

Rain is expected to fall through cold air coming from Canada and develop into an ice storm, Myers said.

Significant ice accumulations were expected Saturday night and Sunday across the Texas Panhandle through southern Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service.

Parts of central Oklahoma could see ice from a quarter inch to a half-inch thick Friday, the weather service warned, adding that bridges, overpasses and sidewalks could become especially hazardous.

Ice storm warnings already were in effect for western, central and far northeastern Oklahoma through Sunday evening. Much of the state would also fall under a winter storm watch Friday afternoon, meaning that sleet, ice and snow could affect travel.  A freezing rain advisory and a flash-flood watch was also in effect in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service strongly discouraged travel during ice storm warnings, noting that downed power lines and fallen tree branches could pose dangers to drivers. In the event driving is necessary, people should keep an extra flashlight, food and water in the vehicle in case of emergency, the weather service advised.

Freezing rain was also forecast for southeast Kansas into central Missouri Friday and is expected to hit I-44 by late Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Ice up to three-quarters of an inch will be likely by Saturday morning, and some parts could see ice accumulations of an inch and a half by Sunday, all of which could mean widespread power outages, the weather service said.

Temperatures in the week ahead in parts of Oklahoma will have highs in the 20s and lows in the teens and possibly single digits, CNN meteorologist Sean Morris said earlier.

In addition to the central U.S., a cold snap also was predicted this weekend for California, where farmers were preparing to monitor the health of a nearly $1 billion citrus crop, The Associated Press reported. (Full story)

Re: 'unusual' weather

Last Tuesday it was 88 degrees, today it snowed.  Then there are the WINDS.

In the history of this area it has never been 88 degrees in the winter and it has never snowed.  The winds have never, ever been this strong, lasted this long, varied from cold to hot or blown from every direction at once.  There are very few birds, no insects or bugs.

Re: 'unusual' weather

I went outside sometime around 6pm last night, went to use the strangely stiff garden hose, and the last foot and a half just broke off, because it was low 20's earlier that morning!

And that's pretty scary news about South Africa, with hailstorms the size of tennis balls!

Re: 'unusual' weather

roll  Yeah, the snow Pamelajean mentioned really threw me for a curve.

While just getting on the freeway, what appeared to be maybe a bit of hail, just sort of "floated"  yikes   Were talking an altitude of not much above sea level, way under 1000 ft.  Got into work OK, and not more than 10-15 minutes later, a full blown HEAVY snow storm starts blowing SIDEWAYS suddently.  Truly a sight to behold!!!!!

A coworker manages to not slip getting into the building and excitedly announces "this is the first time in my life I've seen snow!"
(She's from Nigeria)

By this time there's got to be at least a few inches of snow all over the ground and she's getting ready to go out driving!  I managed to convince her to wait awhile...... it was obviously too risky to tackle driving in this stuff withought chains and poor visibility.

Re: 'unusual' weather

We had a record breaking heat day in mid-December, yet it's not showing up on wunderground's records.

http://www.wunderground.com/history/air … story.html

They need to update their records!  Oh well.  Right now it's 60, although it feels much warmer.  Birds are tweeting, the brook is bubbling in the woods, people are out walking on the trail, and green stuff is blooming on the ground.   It's spring!  Oh wait...it's January!  big_smile

I was jumping around in wunderground's records for this area and in the past, like, decades ago, the temps were also all over the place.  For a few days it was in the 40's, max, then it was in the high 60's, then back down again.  It's hard to say what's "normal" then in that regard.  This could just be how it is in this area, I don't know.

Everybody's stories of extreme winds, snow and hail are amazing though.....

Re: 'unusual' weather

How does one define 'usual'?

If records are kept for a year, month, day or any period of time, then for that period, an average can be determined. As an example, say the average maximum temperature for one month is 70 degrees. If for half the month, the maximum temperatures each day are 50 degrees and then the other half they are 90 degrees, then the average will be 70. So this is the 'usual' temperature right? Even though it never was 70 degrees on any one day at all.

If that's the case, then saying that it's 'unusual' to have 50 degrees one day and 90 the next is not correct, as the average will remain the same. Some natural weather cycles are hundreds, thousands and hundreds of thousands of years in duration.

Good to see you are on the ball Matt.

"Usual" and "Normal" are concepts humanity has created - what we have is continual change (cyclic by nature) and degrees of influence.
