It might be nice if someone wanted to do an IRC channel so if we wanted to chat about things in real time we could. The rooms I once hung out in no longer do it for me.
I've never found one in this vein.
It might be a place one could find a friend on nights like this one.

Alright, so an NR IRC chat was done once before. Here is a new attempt. I tried it last night and works fine. For anyone interested, here are step-by-step instructions for Windows and Os X users:
Windows - via Firefox
Download and install ChatZilla
Restart Firefox, then in the URL bar type: irc://irc.dkom.at/noblerealms
(or irc.blessed.net, irc.efnet.net instead of irc.dkom.at)Then click on the button that says "Administrator" and choose "Change Nickname" and enter something.
You will then be sent into the chat.
Right click on the lower left tab that says "#noblerealms" and choose "open this channel at startup"
Then next time, signing into the chat is as easy as going to Tools -> Chatzilla in your Firefox menu. It will send you straight to the NR chat room.
Windows - standalone program
Download and install X-Chat 2
In the Server List window, enter a nickname, user name, and real name
The click "ADD" and type something like "NR"
Then click Edit and change the default to irc.dkom.at/6667
(or irc.blessed.net, irc.efnet.net instead of irc.dkom.at)Check "connect to selected server only"
Under "Channels to join" type #noblerealms
Then close, and connect to join the NR chat room
Next time, load up the program, make sure NR is selected, and click Connect...
Os X
Download and install Colloquy
In the connections window, type your nickname and if needed, same for real name and user name
Then for server type: irc.dkom.at
(or irc.blessed.net, irc.efnet.net instead of irc.dkom.at)Check "remember connection"
Click connect
Then click Join Room and type: noblerealms
To do this automatically next time you load the app, select the server in the list, click on info -> automate -> + -> noblerealms, and check "Connect on Launch".
10PM-2AM Eastern US time has best chance for seeing others on. I'll be in there periodically.

The Chatroom rocks!
I just downloaded the software and installed it...logged into the chat room, and it says
The nickname “Marcus" is already in use, use the /nick command to pick a new one.
I guess someone else got there before me - or am I missing something?

This is what you've missed. There are 80k people in that IRC network, I bet one of'em's called Marcus. ;D
Ahhh, hehe - I thought that the nicknames applied to that specific room only rather than the whole IRC network. Thanks for the pointer...
i downloaded Colloquy for OSX - logged onto irc.dkom.at with my id ... then when i type in noblerealms for the join chatroom section - it connects, but then gives me this error message: "ERROR Closing Link: 74.12.149.132 (*** Banned (cache))"
ne1 have any clues ?

Number combinations that I notice include 1:11, 333, 444, 11:11, 111, 101, 303 and other variations.

thanx Pictus - but it still doesn't work - i just get another error message 
hopefully one of these days i'll get this thing figured out
i'm using OS X Tiger and experiencing troubles connecting (same error message i mentioned previously) ...
Colloquy states a couple of know issues:
“¢ Can't join channels that require a key with the GUI. A workaround is to use this command "/join #room password" for the room.
“¢ SOCKS and HTTP proxies don't function still.
i wonder if these apply at all for the noblerealms chat forum ??? - (sorry but i'm sometimes technologically ignorant)
