Topic: Boston Legal

Boston Legal is a tv show on ABC which I've never heard of (is it popular in the States?) and a recent episode has apparantly caused quite a bit of a stir and it's easy to see why...

According to What Really Happened the Bushies are probably behind a flood of complaints the program is apparently getting.

Anyway, that's definitely something to pass around!

Re: Boston Legal

Boston Legal is one of the only TV shows I watch anymore.  They consistently go into matters that affect people, to inform and inspire.  I am familiar with the closing argument you are linking to and it was a great one, it shook up my family.

PS: Your link isn't working for me.

Re: Boston Legal

The link should open Window Media Player and start playing a video. It works for me, but it could depend on how your pc is configured.

Anyway, the speech can be read here:

Re: Boston Legal

Boston Legal always manages to hit topics that are not allowed to be spoken of in public without attack.  They constantly take on the issue of free speech and human rights.  The fact that it is intermingled with a lot of silly goings on at the firm makes it a little less obvious.  My hat is off to the writers and producers of that show, probably won't be on for long at the rate they're going.

Re: Boston Legal

In fact, if the people of this country have spoken, the message is we're okay with it all. Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial - or any trial, war on false pretenses. We, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.

That's a good summary. I've been rejected over and over, especially in family relations in favor of Fox News spin. I copied DVDs for people, send articles, links, emails, copy/paste, try to discuss issues, raise questions etc etc. And after a few years of not making any headway with people, or feeling like I'm spinning my wheels. I've come to the same conclusion. The group of people who are aware, offended, and making some effort to discuss, change, and make a difference is small. Many people are just hopeless. They feel isolated, alone, and helpless. They are demoralized enough that they won't even make the effort because they "know" it is futile to try. So they're much better off watching MTV and Sci-Fi channel, or something like that.

I think the people in my family are sort of sick and twisted, underneath their shallow fantasy outlook where they still believe the USA and the Bushes are the moral high ground crusaders for justice and all that is good and right. I think somewhere deep down they know it's not the truth and they're actively supporting it, maybe enjoying it. They say torture is wrong and such, but they're kept so busy with work and family business, commuting, and wanting a bigger house, and what happens for 15 seconds on the other side of the world  on CNN is so surreal and far away it just goes by without question. Enough of the population is still pacified with enough food, money, and distractions, not to mention made sick by polution, chemicals, bad "food" etc people get to wiped out to do anything but go lay down and put their life on hold.

Right now I've been more of the belief that the world can't be fixed. That the solution is more within. I need to fix myself. Maybe that will bump me to a more positive timeline, or if I improve myself it will spread like ripples through a pond and make my surroundings better. I'm not entirely sure. But I have to question how effective writing/faxing senators is for example. But I do think there is a large part of the population that thinks they are sort of untouchable, who are corrupt and sit back with a sick sort of satisfaction over what they hear and see as some of these attrocities unfold. Sort of like I'm a good upstanding citizen and if you are too then you have nothing to worry about because bad things only happen to bad people, and the government is on our (the good and right conservative god fearing christian's) side, so maybe even add in a few shakes of devine right with apocalypse fever.
