We're organising the world's largest ever climate experiment, and we need your help.

We need thousands of people to help
Trying to predict climate change is hard. There are lots of factors involved – air temperature, sea temperature and cloud cover all play a part – as do dozens of other variables. Therefore, there are a huge number of calculations involved.

One solution is for scientists to use the largest supercomputer they can find. But even the biggest supercomputers are only so good.

We think you can do better.

Using a technique known as distributed computing, we’re hoping to harness the power of thousands of PCs around the world. If 10,000 people sign up, we’ll be faster than the world’s biggest computer. And we’re hoping to be even better than that.

should we really give over some of our computer power to BBC =/
Also in my opinion there are many things these models don't take into account, such as HAARP, Chemtrails, and other things that aren't mainstream knowledge.  So i think it would be inaccurate no matter how many people sign up.

You know, there must be 1000 of these "networked computing" apps now.  For SETI, cancer research, and the list goes on, and now climate change.

I have yet to hear any of these ever bringing about any breakthroughs.

Has anyone else here?

Actually, there was a similar topic on a magazine in finland a while back. They discussed what specific gains have been gained by networked calculations. Some of them being specific chemical and other substances that interact with viruses and cancer cells in an effort to find a cure for alot of disease. That was the largest single benefit, most benefits from programs like SETI@Home were that they found pulsars and some interesting stars but tahts about it.
