Topic: Living with ghosts

In my intro thread, someone asked me to elaborate on mt paranormal experiences, so now I am.  The youngest I remember a ghost encounter was when i was four or five.  i had been sent to my room and shortly afterwards heard a very loud hissing noise.  I thought it was a snake.  I couldn't see it but thought that it must be there.  I screamed for my mom in terror, and she came in and yelled at me for "making up excuses to get out of my room."

The ghosts followed me from house to house.  Their activity peaked around my preteen and early teen years.  I believe they were feeding on all the negative energies in the house.  You see, I had parents who were neglectful, and emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes physically abusive.  We lived in poverty.

Here are some of the entities I encountered:

*"Robot Man"--I called it so because its voice sounded electronic, like a machine speaking.  I could never understand him.  For some unknown reason, I feared him.

*"Motherly Ghost"--this ghost had a matronly aspect.  She was harmless, and would tell me things like my room was untidy or that my hair was a little frizzy.

*"Little Girl"--this one constantly called for her mother.  Once my mom and I were alone in the house, and "little girl" called out, "mom!  Mom!"  My mom said, "yes?  Leigh, what is it?" thinking it was me.  This incident and others similar to it helped me realize it wasn't all imagination.

*Poltergeist(s)--this entity or entities did things like shove my mattress with me lying on it, and produce the sound of breaking glass when no glass actually broke, or growl like an animal.  They slapped my sister at one point.  At another point, it drove my mother out of the house by its growlings.  The growlings were heard by the whole family, and dismissed by everyone but me as "the electricity acting up."  It came from the ceiling, and my dad went into the attic and stood right where the noise was coming from while it was occuring, yet heard nothing.

*Various harmless white blobs/orbs

*Various entities commonly called "shadow ghosts."  One night, I was lying in bed and the shadow ghosts were especially active.  One of them materialized at the corner of my bed.  It was the size and vague shape of a person, yet all black.  It moved towards me, and I think I fainted, because I don't know what happened next, and I DO NOT wish to remember.  Thinking of this incident drives me to tears.

*Various entities, which may have consisted of any of the above, or been seperate beings---whispered amongst themselves.  What they said was never intelligible.

As the activity escaladed, I turned to a Wiccan friend for help in ridding the house of them.  She give me a cleansing chant.  I did not expect it to work, for I did not believe in magick, but I was desperate to try almost anything.

It worked.  Now, the ghosts rarely return.  The poltergeist has returned once to growl at me from under my desk when nothing was there, but has done nothing else.  "Robot Man" hasn't returned, nor have the "shadow ghosts" or white blobs.  The motherly ghost and little girl occasionally return.

Re: Living with ghosts

Hey MM, a former friend of my mom has a son who played with ghosts. The kid, who was seven when I knew him, grew up in a dysfunctional household with lots of negativity, was neglected, and hyperactive. When he stayed with his grandparents, they would often hear him giggle and talk to someone after being put to bed. Several times they found he had sneaked into the pitch dark basement late at night to hold conversations with invisible entities down there.

When I asked who he was talking to, he always mentioned the same three beings. One of them he called "Android" - which is why I am posting this, since you mentioned "Robot Man". Based on his description, Android was a flat robotic being with an electronic voice. The other two beings had normal names like Rob or Pete or something like that.

He said that his "friends" lived in the basement and slept during the day by floating into the darker corners near the basement ceiling until night came. It was all pretty creepy to hear about.

Re: Living with ghosts

That's quite an amazing set of experiences MM!

Just to relate a similar experience, when I first moved out to Colorado, my family and I stayed in a house which I believe was haunted.

It was one of the oldest houses in the town.  I guess the town itself, Montrose, was built on top of a swamp that had been drained.  There had been one previous owner that we knew of, an elderly couple, who from what I gathered stayed in the place up until deaths.

Often times I would hear the sound of somebody walking down the hallway when everybody in the house was asleep.  My daughter was 2 at the time and she had her own separate bedroom.  We kept her toys in there, but she would never sleep in that room.  Whenever we tried to put her in there to sleep, she would cry and whine until we picked her up.  She always had to sleep in our room.  We just assumed she was a fussy baby at the time.  When we eventually moved a year later she had her own room again and had no problem sleeping on her own.  We noticed this the very first night we moved into our new apartment.

There were times when I would hear some of her noise-making toys go off in the room in the middle of the night.  Nothing was in there (we had no pets) and when I would go in to see what was happening, everything would become quiet.  I would inspect the toys that were making noise and never found anything obvious that would indicate how they were being triggered or set off.  It was spooky.  A couple of times I had a hard time going back to sleep after this had happened.

We had a friend stay with us who would sometimes help babysit our daughter.  Sometimes he would turn off all the lights and sound in the house and find her staring into a dark corner and mumbling things.  We were all a little concerned.

I never actually perceived any visible ghosts while we were living in the house, but I had a feeling or intuition that something paranormal was definately happening there.

After we moved, a lady my wife worked with started renting the place.  After a couple months of living there my wife asked her how she liked living there.  The lady asked my wife if she thought the house was haunted!  My wife sweares she never mentioned anything about the hauntings to this lady ever!  Crazy...

Anyways, thanks for sharing your experience.  If I had known more about cleansing rituals at the time, I might have tried them.  It seemed like whatever was in that house didn't want to leave.

Doc: Marty, you're not thinking fourth dimensionally!
Marty McFly: Yeah, I know, I got a real problem with that.

Re: Living with ghosts

Heya Mutant,

I'm curious... How are things going for you now in this regard? How would you *like* to relate to all of this? What would you like for your future with this to be?
