Topic: Birds stalking me

Okay this might sound a little silly but for the past week I have been noticing that while I'm driving in my car I look up in the sky and I'll see hawks or buzzards (don't know exactly what kind of bird) flying above my car not too high. Today for example I'm leaving my driveway I look up and see 1 flying over head, later today I'm leaving the restuarant with my girlfriend heading back to her place and I see another one flying over head, 3 minutes later on the road it's there again. I leave her house I see 2 flying above me. This isn't the only occasion today that this same type of bird has been 'following' me. Almost everyday I look up and I'll see this bird flying above my car. What do you guys make of this, what kind of significanse (sp?) do birds hold symbolicaly.

Re: Birds stalking me

Say hi to it, see what happens.  smile

Seriously, mentally reach out to it, direct a thought to it and talk to it.  You probably won't hear anything back, but trust me, it will hear you.  Animals (and insects...) hear our thoughts loud and clear, and especially more so when you intentionally direct a thought their way.   So try it, see what happens, see if the bird(s) do something unusual in response, give you some sort of sign.  Ask it why it's there, and what, if anything, it's trying to show you.   You'll get an answer.

Re: Birds stalking me

Okay thanks I'll give that a try. Now that I've done some quick research on what hawks symbolise I think I have a better understanding of what this hawk represents with my current life situation but I would still like to give your advice a try lyra, thanks.

This is a bit off-topic but birds and mentally reaching were mentioned, so I'll throw it in for the heck of it:

My days of "reaching out" to animals, particularly birds, ended the day I did this at work in about 98.  I was in a conference room, 2nd floor, staring out the window (bored) -- and a birdie was flying nearby.  I gazed at it, spaced out, and... poof.. the poor little guy ran straight toward me and hit the glass.  And fell straight to the ground...  Pretty sure he's not around anymore.  I'm still not sure if I entranced him or if it was just coincidence.

Sorry little birdie ;-)

Re: Birds stalking me

A similar thing happened to me a few nights ago. An owl was hooting loudly outside my window. I couldn't see the owl, but I knew it would be perched on a particular streetlight because it was the tallest thing around. When I opened the front door I looked at the streetlight, but it was too bright to see if that's where the owl was. I stepped out onto the porch so the owl could see me. This caused it to take off from the streetlight and fly across the street. There it landed a rooftop where I could see it in silhouette. From time to time it would hoot. I tried to ask it what it wanted, but I couldn't tell. I thought maybe it wanted me to follow it to the west. But I live in the suburbs and I would've had to cross people's yards if I wanted to walk that way. I went back upstairs to my room and looked out the window at the owl, who continued to hoot. I apologized to the owl for the existence of the houses and all the unnatural features of the land which prevented me from following it. I wished I could have entered into the owl's story, but I couldn't. I hoped that things would someday be different.

Strange animals often cross my path during periods in my life when things are spiritually intense. During these times I tend to see birds of prey, frogs, racoons, and rabbits where they don't normally appear. I don't what they're trying to say, though.

Re: Birds stalking me

I love how humans and animals can be so connected physically and spiritually. Like when a shaman is doing work on someone and they see the humans spirit animal, guide. I just think it is so truely beautiful.

Ok, this is nuts. I just checked that site, and one of the "Owl's Wisdom" attributes listed is shape-shifting. I almost included this next part in my story, but then I didn't because it seemed to have a simple explanation. As I looked at the owl from my room it appeared to be constantly changing shape! I figured it was just an optical illusion because I was looking at the owl through venetian blinds in low light. I even closed one eye to see if it would stop, but it didn't. I never did pull up the blinds and check more closely, though.

If it's a hawk, I'd consider it an honor. The hawk is so noble, strong, and individualistic. You must be doing something right if the hawk is gracing you with its presence. Maybe it's saying "stay the course and be strong".

Re: Birds stalking me

I too believe that some animal encounters are "visits" or spirit messages.

Like Ocean, I live in Toronto, and very close to the Don Valley, and spend much time wandering, exploring there. On several occasions have seen people fishing in the river, yikes! If you know that part of the Don, just below the Parkway/highway, it reeks of soap. I guess the fish are immune to detergent by now?! Still, I've seen many fish there, big and small,  and some jumping up the small waterfall on one stretch, the same spot where I've seen people fishing.

And there's another place, near Taylor Creek park, where an old friend of mine had an animal "visit". My stepfather Edgar had died a few days before, my friend F had known him well, and they liked each other a lot. One of the best things about Edgar was his silliness, his humour and playfulness. That is what I and others miss most about him. So there was F, sitting alone on a rock not another soul in sight, in his favourite meditative place in the valley off the beaten path, thinking, grieving, feeling very sad; his head was down in his hands and he was crying like a baby, on this hot, sunny, cloudless afternoon. Suddenly he felt water sprinkling on him like raindrops. He lifted his head and stopped, right in front of him about a foot away in a tiny puddle was a baby owl, splashing water all about, looking straight at him, and seemingly flicking water at him on purpose. Staring at the owl chick, he wondered where its mother was. The bird kept flicking water in his direction, hopping about, clearly enjoying itself, and making cheerful noises. It was so strange and so funny that F started laughing. Then the bird flew upwards and disappeared among the trees. F got up smiling, and said "thanks Edgar." His sadness lifted, he immediately came over to my house to tell me about it.

Same week, my son returned from the corner store, sprinting into the house, happier than I'd seen him in days. The door to this store was propped open, like it often was on hot days.  K stepped inside the doorway, in the middle of a noisy, little drama. A tiny bird (sparrow or starling?) was flying wildly about, shrieking, and several men were trying to catch it, or wave it outside. K stopped in his tracks, taking in the scene, suddenly the bird turned, flew towards him and set down at his feet, looking up at him. K bent down to get a closer look at the bird. It held his gaze for a few seconds, cheeped, then flew up and past him, out the door. He said "ha ha Edgar", and ran home to tell me about it.

A few days later, a lady bug landed on my arm while I was sitting outside alone, feeling down, missing Edgar. Instantly I felt better, and much more at peace with his passing. A couple of days before Edgar died, I went to see him at the hospital and though he was very ill, I did not know he was going to die. He'd been very sick for years and had recovered before. And as weak as he looked, I did not believe that this was it. I had no idea that this was the last time I'd speak to him. Each time I visited him, I'd bring something. That day I brought a little wooden box that had a floating lady bug in it. On the lid were the words "I love you." He and I were very close, I'd known and loved him for 26 years, but I don't remember ever telling him that I loved him, or vice versa. We just knew, I guess, but we never said it. So the ladybug's "words" spoke for me that day. And when he died on Tuesday I went into shock, cuz I really did not know he was dying, and I also had not said "goodbye" to him. I kept feeling stupid and guilty for that. But when that ladybug came to visit, I knew that it was okay, that Edgar knew I loved him as much as he loved me, and that he was returning to say "goodbye".  And everywhere I went for the rest of that summer, and into fall, I saw ladybugs, one or two, or swarms of them. That too was very unusual because I hadn't seen them in years. And now whenever I see them, I think of Edgar and I smile, or laugh.

Re: Birds stalking me

Whenever I see a hawk circling, I take it mean to be extra watchful.

Buzzards remind me to let go of things that are no longer of use.

Re: Birds stalking me

I was seeing many single magpies for a long time but for the past few weeks i only see 2 together.
This is from several different locations, my home, work, families homes etc.
reminded me of the old nursery rhyme

One for sorrow, two for mirth,
Three for a wedding, four for a birth,
Five for silver, six for gold,
Seven for a secret not to be told.
Eight for heaven, nine for hell,
And ten for the devil's own sel'.

I have seen whole flocks (more than ten) 1 or 2 but never any other number together.

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

The day after my dad died, a bird showed up and tried to get into the house through just about every single window and glass door of the house, insistently, for several hours.  It kept banging into the glass over and over, leaving feathers and blood on the glass.  It was so extremely strange that my family and I all took it as a sign (I had asked for one the night before in prayer -- prayer being something I was definitely NOT in the habit of doing).     We then came to find out that birds frequently appear in strange ways after someone has died; it's a common phenomenon.

Yeah, now I recall you writing about that before in here, right? And cus my post was a little long, I didn't mention the story of how a blue jay started to visit us just days after my husband's grandma died, kept returning for 2 seasons. No more now.

It's all good. Mysterious and good, imo. smile

My grandma died on November 9, 1993 (my birthday, btw...I saw her that day before anybody knew she had died, she paid me a visit smile ) It was just before my mom married her 2nd husband.   So there we are at the church, a week later for my mom's wedding.  Before the wedding we took a few pics, and immediately after the picture taking, a bird flew into the church.  It started walking around, poking about, exploring.  Really looking around and checking things out and making its presense known.  The front doors were wide open, so it wasn't trapped or anything.  It just chose to stick around and walk all about, investigating, and being seen.  We were all like, Hm.  Interesting.   Later after the film was developed, in the last picture that was taken just moments before the bird showed up there's some kind of "flaw" with the photo.  The right side of the photo has some light figure thing.  Hard to describe.  But it definitely seemed to us that it was something otherwordly that appeared on film.   My mom was convinced it was my grandma.   Considering the bird, and the fact that I saw my grandma the night she died 3,000 miles away before anybody even knew she had died makes me think that the light thing in the photo was probably her...and the bird too.  My mom says that she requested my grandma's presense at her wedding, and for some sort of sign.  I guess that would be it!

I wonder why the dead appear in the form of birds?   What's that all about?  What does it mean?
