Re: Liver Flush & Liver Cleansing
At any rate, it's not my intent to divert the thread off topic from its original subject. So, back to livers we go...
Fava beans, anyone?.........;)

Holy crap!! No pun intended!!!!
I did research into colon cleanses at the begining of 2003 and saw the websites that show the results of what you just described. Disturbing isn't even the word for it!! If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you get this to work for you? What was the procedure you used? I've tinkered with psyllium husks and bentonite clay, but it didn't work for me. Stuff went in, but then nothing happened, and it ended up just making me feel bloated and icky. So I'm just curious about the procedure you did. Did you eat any food during those 7 days? Lots of water? Anything else that helped the process along? Something I missed?

On a side topic, I wouldn't recommend those herbal colon cleanses, like ReNew Life in case anybody here is thinking about that. Not to be all gross, but I did one of those (after the psyllium husk thing didn't really seem to be working) and I permanently ruined my intestines.
No lie. I'm permanently damaged. If I don't maintain a special diet, things won't work. But it's a miracle they can even work at all with a special diet, because for 16 months after I did the herbal cleanse NOTHING WORKED. I literally thought I was going to die. (actually, I was; I was told as much during an abduction) I had begun relying on herbal stuff to keep myself functioning after the cleanse, but I was ruining my liver apparantly, and didn't even know it. I began having strong negative physical reactions to the herbal supplements, over time it was taking a toll. (my skin would be on scorching on fire along with waves of chills, but my temperature would show up lower than 98.6 degrees on a thermometer, coupled with violent cramping, and other issues.) It's a long story, and I won't bore anybody here with it. All I can say though is beware of herbal cleanses! You'll damage yourself.
Psyllium is tricky, but very potentially useful in the right application. The drawback of using psyllium is that it draws alot of moisture from the colon where of course much of the body's hydration comes from. Not to mention nutrients. Though, the small intestine is where most of the nutrients from your food are absorbed. Psyllium is remarkable,on the other hand, in it's ability to bulk and pull matter and toxins through the intestines.
But, to the point! I have read several books on colon cleansing and tissue regeneration from Dr. Richard Anderson to Dr. Bernard Jensen, etc.. When deciding what "program" we would go with we considered time involved, ability to function during the cleanse, and costs. We settled on Richard Anderson's cleanse from his book "Cleanse and Purify Thyself". Has alot of his spiritual leanings in the material, but by and large his cleanse offered more simplicity and supposedly tremendous results, which is what we really wanted. In the book there are reports of removing up to 40ft of this encrusted matter. Considering the length of the intestine, that is only fraction. But, even at that, the benefits are incredible. And we wanted to be clean!!!!!! So, blowing off all the high prices for his or anyone else's herbal combos, we went through the list of herbs he uses in his cleanse products and bought them all bulk rate and capped them ourselves. A bit time consuming, but a good thing to do whilst sitting on your ars, drinking tea, wondering what it would feel like to have clean digestive tract. His book will explain, but let me say there are three cleansing phases or options with his program. The first two are easy, the first being easiest and so on. The third is what we went for to begin with as we were all for it and our personal circumstances allowed for it. Seven days with no food. Only psyllium with bentonite, alternating with herb combo every 1 1/2hrs. Psyllium, herbs, psyllium, herbs.........each having been taken somewhere between five to six times during the course of the day. And of course lots, and lots of water and some juice. The psyllium bulk for the most part keeps you from getting hungry, and the herbs are specific for nutrients and to loosen the crust from the intestines and keep everything moving. (This was what you were missing, Lyra.) HOWEVER! This cleansing did prove to be very challenging to any enthusiam and convictions we had devoted to the process in the beginning. I mean, jeez! Every hour and a half you had to take something. We had to set our timers on our wristwatches to keep up in order to make sure we were getting all of the herbs and psyllium the cleanse called for. Overall, though, the cleanse was very rewarding as promised in the book. Lots of stuff came out everyday. The whites of our eyes were very white and skin literally glowed. Stiffness left and waking in the morning easier without the fog. But, we backed off after day four or so due to the intensity of the regimine and had begun experiencing symptoms of detoxing too fast. In the beginning we figured we could handle phase three because we had already done so much cleansing before. Alas, we switched to phase two and so I only got 8ft. Would like to give it another go one day when I have less demands for time and energy, but if I never do it doesn't matter. In the meantime I stick to maintaining with simple and milder solutions.
I would like to add that while there maybe nutrients lossed due to removal of substances, one loses more from malabsorbtion and autointoxication than cleansing. Not to mention while one is cleansing they should alway be taking supportive measures to begin with. Also, any damage that can be done is simply overloading your detox organs by cleansing too fast for your body to keep up. Unless of course, a product or program IS just designed poorly or misused in some way, and/or your organs are already damaged. These are just my observations, but there seems to be info from other sources that can corroberate.
If anyone were to do a colon cleanse, mild or aggressive, I would get that liver and kidneys cleaned first. Only makes sense to clean the filters before you overload them with dislodged and potentially harmful substances. Clarke's cleanse makes the most sense to me, to start with, because in doing it the bile ducts are cleansed giving the liver the ability to produce more bile improving digestion and remove toxins from the body faster. Not to mention improving glycogen storage. And, on top all that, you can drink more wine!!!;)
Lyra, since I sell the Renew Life products at the store I work I would like to know what you took (the specific product name if possible) and what exactly it did. If that is too personal, I understand. I would just like to know what I'm selling to people. Hell, I can even call the company and tell them what happened, not mentioning names of course. I hear they have henchmen!!
