Topic: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Good day to all of you!

I have been having problems with shaking on my hands.  Sometimes I feel I can control it and sometimes I feel deep inside me something is wrong.......I mean I really feel it in my bones.    My father has Parkison's disease and sometimes it kind of scares me that I may be coming with the same ailment.  Yet,  I believe I can do something about but do not know what.   Sometimes it is embarassing specially when eating soup (I hope you get the picture!).  I do not know what I have done or what changes (physiological/spiritual) I have gone through when the shaking stops.  Sugar imbalance?

Please let me know what you think or point me in the right direction.   I will try most things but will not bite off the head of a bat (just kidding!).

Thanks,

Lee

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Hi whywhywhy,

I thought Parkinson's too when I read your post.  But I hesitate to write this, because I believe the human mind is a very powerful thing......more powerful than most of us realize.  If a disease is in the family, we're subconsciously already going to be look out for signs of it manifesting within us, so programmed are we to believe in the concept of inherited genetic problems.   So while Parkinson's came to mind as I read your post, I don't want to encourage the idea of you "looking for" or somehow expecting it to manifest, like a self-fullfilling prophesy.  For women, "breast cancer" is one of those things that we're inundated to be fearful for and always vigilant of.   I think this in itself causes a mindset that triggers it within many people.

For more information, I'd look into the works of Dr. Bruce Lipton, specifically a video he did that's available for free download on files.noblerealms.net, called "The Biology of Perception."    He's a very fascinating speaker, real high energy, will guarantee to keep your interest for the entire presentation.  It's all about human genetics, and how our own beliefs, attitudes and perceptions triggers our DNA to activate certain diseases and ailments.   He explains the entire process from beginning to end of how this comes about, it's truly fascinating to watch.   Dr. Lipton used to be very scientifically-minded, not a new age person at all, but his research and observations were pointing to the inevitable conclusion that we have a HUGE hand in determining our own health.   You just have to watch it to see, it's much better than how I'm describing it here.  smile  Again, it's available for free in the files section, check it out if you have a chance.

I'll conclude with a question about diet........What sort of diet do you have?  Specifically, I'm wondering if you have a diet that involves consumption of diet drinks, (aspartame) and / or frequent "junk" stuff?   The actor Michael J. Fox has pretty much linked his early onset of Parkinson's with his near addictive consumption of diet soda back in the 80's.  He's pretty convinced there's some sort of link.   Just a random thought that popped into my head.   I think looking at one's diet is a good place to start though.   If there's any junk going on, then an overhaul should be a priority of consideration.

Check out the thread I started in this same section if you'd like called "Sickness...it's all in the head!"  Not a complete end-all be-all on the subject, but it delves into the human mind's part in our health and well being.

Hope that helps...

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Hey there. . lyra actually has some good medical advice (is there anything lyra doesn't know about?) wink

Parkinson's disease manifests physically by the degeneration of certain neurons in a part of your brain called the substantia nigra that play a role in slow, controlled movements.

The truth is nobody really knows what causes it, and if you research it on the Internet you'll be sure to find plenty of sites telling you that diet has no effect and that it is all genetic, and a bunch of other garbage like that.

You want to first make sure that your body is getting enough of the things that are precursors to neurotransmitters.  5-HTP supplements seem to work well with this as well as omega-6 fatty acids like fish oil.

I will venture a guess that you have a caffeine problem and, if so, you should reduce your consumption of caffeine as much as possible.  Same for nicotine.  I love these drugs as much as the next guy, but if you are starting to have these kinds of problems, it's time to give them up.

Finally stay absolutely clear of things like artificial sweeteners, hydrogenated fats, and processed foods.

If you can, start practicing tai chi.  It can help to regenerate the functions you have been starting to lose.

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Also, in addition to what is already suggested, you can get a sample of your hair tested by a holistic practitioner who uses such methods to find what nutritional deficiencies your body may have as well what contaminants your may body may be high in. Such as heavy metals and what not. Canned drinks, for examples, contain aluminum leached from their containers, bottles waters contain high levels of PVC, tuna and other fish contain high levels of mercury, and the list goes on. All of these affect the nervous system and endocrine system leading to symptoms you describe. There is alot of info out there, and frankly it is a big can of worms. I work at a nutrition store and talk with alot of people about many different conditions and the process they go through in narrowing down what exactly it is they are dealing with. It may be something very simple. The best way to approach it is starting with the obvious as these other kind folks have mentioned. Nutrition and immediate contaminants. Read some books and websites in reference to your symptoms. Cross referencing any info you gleen with the folks here and experienced nutritionists or people encountered at a good nutrition store can save you time, confusion, and money. And I say from alot of experience, don't dive headlong into the lastest and greatest thing if you know what I mean. There are alot of sales gimmicks that can sweep you from the obvious and the simple. I, as well others here, take a great deal of interest on this subject and are willing to help where need be. Maybe I should speak for myself, but I believe this is true. Listen to your body and when you find an element, physical or nonphysical, that brings relief to your situation you know you are on the right track. Hope this helps you some.

Hy Lyra!

I will download the video today.  Like you I also believe that sometimes we trigger certain ailments by just pure thought.  If I could just find out how to short circuit those negative thoughts..............

Hi tenetnosce!

Will look into practicing tai chi.

Lets see, I do not smoke, 1 cup of coffe a day, no artificial sweeteners, use peanut or olive oil when cooking, no sodas.  Although I like white bread, rice and yes I drink vodka.  Those last three items do not help a whole lot!  I will have to make a few changes.

Hi thook

This is quite interesting.  I'll be honest with you, I have never seen a holistic practitioner.  I have no idea where to go or start but the idea really interests me.  Anybody knows one in the Mobile (Alabama) area?

I reaaly appreciate all the inputs and will keep you posted.

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Although you might have a hard time finding one in Mobile, I'd look for a real Chinese (from China) accupuncturist - you might find one in Birmingham though.  I've had incredible success with various ailments with accupuncture HOWEVER not all accupuncturists are created equal <duh> and my experience has been unless the practitioner has had lots and lots of experience it will basically do nothing OR worse -- make things worse.

Although Houston isn't next door to Mobile, I'd consider going there once a week, if possible, to see the practioner I saw -- she's a third generation accupuncturist from China and she's incredible.

Email me privately if you are interested in her name and location.

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

Hi Lee, Here's a fairly decent homeopathic remedy finder, you can type in such things as "hand tremour or "hand trembling" in the search box, tick the nearest matching reportory rubrics  and then check the graphs to see the best matching remedies.

May help in the acute stage but i agree with the others about seeing a wholistic practitioner and even a conventional MDs opinion if you know a good one, stay in charge.

Is there a local or nearby health food/nutrition store? Here, there are two where local papers are distributed and have sections where nutritionalists/consultants place their business ads with phone numbers and what they offer. Maybe there is something like this in your area. You may also find their business cards and pamphlets on some posting station at these stores. Even ask people that work there, if they seem to have a clue. And for that matter, check the yellow pages under health or nutrition listings.
I reiterate, start with the simple things first. One thing that occured to me is to notice "when" the symptoms occur, around a meal or some ingested substance or lack thereof.

Re: Shaking/Trembling Hands

You could find a naturopathic doctor like me!  We are primary care physicians that are trained specifically in chinese medicine and acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, and mind/body medicine.  We do also take pharmacology and can write prescriptions in some states.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Alabama does not have licensing laws for naturopaths, so any there would be much more limited in their scope of practice.

. . . pause while I look something up. Oh! Well whaddya know.

Deb Vacik, believe it or not, was in my class at school.  Well try giving these ladies a call.

The main goals of treatment, in my opinion, would be:

1.  Reduce exposure to neurotoxins.  This may be from diet, but also from other environmental or occupational exposures.  Any sort of chemicals that you may be working with, or even off-gassing from things like new furniture and carpet can cause problems.

2.  Ensure that you are getting all of the necessary precursors to the production of dopamine.  Support the metabolic pathway as much as possible.

3.  Follow a regular program of taichi.

4.  Investigate homeopathic and mind/body methods of treatment.

I wish I could say it sounds like it's "all in your mind" or "a case of nerves" but with the family history of Parkinson's I would be very skeptical of that.

Hope that helps!

Then I remembered you emailed me and it was in the email!   big_smile  Too funny.

To all of you:

Thank you for your wonderful inputs.  I am beginning to think I got this bull by the horns.  Well,  at least that is a good start!

By the way,  I watched the video lyra suggested (Bruce Lipton on Biology of Perception:  Can be found in the montalk file section) and found it very interesting.  If you have some time please watch it (1 hr 8 min duration).

You most certainly did.  wink

I have your email, with your business card at the bottom of the email, sitting in one of my email inboxes.    You emailed me with comments and questions about one of my articles, and I wrote you back, but never heard from you again.   I assumed you didn't like my answers or something, I don't know.   big_smile

Now things have gotten doubly funny!
