Disney does this a lot. Martin Scorsese's film Kundun never reached wide distribution.  Midway during the shooting, Disney backed out of their distribution deal.  Why?  The Red Chinese told Disney if they released this film, Disney would not be allowed to build a DisneyWorld in China.

Scorsese continued with the film, and distributed it through other means.  And never got widely seen.

Now, rather than support an award winning documentarist...they are backing out.  No real surprise here.

It's well known in Hollywood that without a distribution deal, you can kiss your movie goodbye.

What I found surprising is that this obvious partisan stance by Disney is reported in mainstream media.

Re: Disney - squelches deal

Maybe the wide media report is just used to give a bit more credibility to the film, which is spreading lies on many points. For example it "reveals" that Bush *used to have contact* with the Bin Laden family while many things prove that these contacts have never stopped. Overall it plays on the usual "Big business is bad" stance rather than "The Bush administration is willing to kill its own citizens just to increase its power". As we discussed before, this is useful to give a bad image to the US while still not questionning all the other mega-structures.
