Topic: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Sunday December 26, 2004

The most powerful earthquake in 40 years triggered massive tidal waves that hit coastlines across Asia today, killing more than 1,500 people in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Thailand.

Tourists, fishermen, homes and cars were swept away by walls of water unleashed by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake, centred off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, where at least 94 people were killed by floods and collapsing buildings, officials said.

But the scope of the disaster became apparent only after waves as high as ten meters (30 feet) crashed into coastal areas throughout the Indian Ocean and Adaman Sea.

In Sri Lanka - some 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) west of the epicenter - hospitals, police reported 1,000 dead and more than 500,000 affected by the wall of water....

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

There was apparently an earthquake of the coast of new zealand a few days ago measuring about the same, that was reported to have caused a tsunami but it petered out before reaching any populated land.

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6754820/?GT1=5936

“All the planet is vibrating“? from the quake, said Enzo Boschi, the head of Italy’s National Geophysics Institute. Speaking on SKY TG24 TV, Boschi said the quake even disturbed the Earth’s rotation.

Wow, huh?

And wow again... I pay attention to the news somewhat, but my step-father is savage about watching the news and the weather channel, and he nor I had heard anything about the NZ one... odd. I mean, even if it wasn't cataclysmic, that a submarine earthquake of that magnitude wasn't reported, and widely, seems odd to me.

Now the question is: if so they are, how are the two related? Do you have anymore info Alushe? I'd like to find some time in the next day or two to look at the plates and see if they hook up somewhere.

Heehee... the jigsaw puzzle that is Mother Earth is changing it's face big_smile.

A friend just showed me this:

Mars Square Uranus (Dec 21, 2004 - Jan 4,2005) - The dynamic presents the potential for harsh action, as well as the potential for earthquakes, the fires of war, arson, explosive tempers, and atrocious hate crimes. One should avoid risky undertakings. This is a very 'explosive' aspect leading into 2005.

Auendove; bit of a estimate on the scale of the NZ earthquake.  But details are here

http://www.geonet.org.nz/x2342423g_l.html

International readings estimate the quake at 8.1

As for mentions of the earthquake by the media...I think all of us here at NR know how relavent the media are.  Next to useless.  Barely worth listening to in all honesty...

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Just found out from the Goro forum, where it's all about finding connections and repeating symbolisms, but.........................this happened one year to the DAY of the Bam, Iran earthquake of December 26, 2003.   The Bam quake was a magnitude 6.6 and killed close to 30,000 people in one pop.    One year later, to the day, there's another large quake that's killed 11,000 - 12,000 people in 7 different countries.

What are the odds of THAT?

Just heard from my wife's uncle he's okay. He is in Thailand. Very freaked out. Became a tree hugger to save himself.

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Found this update on Yahoo...................reporting from of all places, **COLUMB*O, Sri Lanka.   There's that Columb-thing, yet again.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&a … ;printer=1

Up to almost 23,000 dead now in 9 countries, and growing, as the water born disease aftermath kicks in.

I still can't get over that this happened one year to the day of the Bam, Iran quake.  Nobody is talking about that!!   Only over on the Goro Adachi site have I found reference to it.  The media doesn't report things like that because it's a "connection" of sorts, and they don't want people making connections or thinking multi-contextually, as Goro has termed it.  Because then we might start questioning the nature of these events, and reality in general.  Can't have that now.

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Well it looks like the two recent earthquakes may indeed be related.

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Thanks Andy for posting this, I thought they had to be related.

It was reported on the "irrelavent" evening news that the whole island of Sumatra had been displaced by 100 ft. due to the earthquake... whoa!

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

I experienced the Marmara Quake on 1999 here in Istanbul. It was a terrible shake. 18.000 people died at that quake and it's not easy to forget the morning after scenes.

I try to follow all the news about this quake but yes Marcus is right media is useless. They immediately turned the subject to quantities. That much people died, this much people injured. Ah, by the way multi billion $ is lost. But as I learned till now, universe deals with quality, not quantity.

And also there is no word anywhere about WHY this happened. Yes, people discuss HOW it happened, but WHY is completely different subject. And yes Lyra, the connection with Bam quake is very very interesting - again no word about it.

Maybe we must make our own NR media. Umm, in fact we are already making it and this is great!

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

I live in the South Island of NZ, but I was asleep during the time of the quake. Curious, happens to coincide with a rather violent dream I had.

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

The death toll is getting pretty high, 58,000 dead now...

Re: South-east Asian tsunami kills thousands

Here's an animated diagram to better illustrate where the waves originated from and how they spread out, and where they hit:

Scroll down to "Tsunami Animation".

They probably had this on t.v., but I don't have a t.v. so this is the first time I'm able to see how it looked on a map........

Quake May Have Made Earth Wobble--US Scientists

The deadly Asian earthquake may have permanently accelerated the Earth's rotation -- shortening days by a fraction of a second -- and caused the planet to wobble on its axis, U.S. scientists said on Tuesday....
