I agree with a lot of what Lypstic Mystic wrote but not all.
Karma is cause and effect therefore it is linear insofar as our incarnations go. It has been said that earth is a 'schoolroom'.
As creative beings we are constantly "sowing" God's energy [ in thought, feeling, word and deed ] and we are "reaping" the harvest of our past sowings in the now.
If our experience of time was not linear how could we otherwise learn the lessons of cause and effect? For that matter, how could we learn any karmic lesson without cause and effect? If you go out in the rain you get wet. Touch a hot stove you burn your finger. You know, if you act this way then that happens. Karmic law = Justice.
True, the karmic self is the sum total of our personal vibration in the material planes. As Lyp Mystic says the karmic self is the EFFECT of misqualifying the spiritual energy that has flowed through us from the inner I AM Presence. Disobedience and rebellion against the will of the inner self is the CAUSE of that effect.
From that basic tragedy [ the fall ] has sprung the karmic law of cause and effect... a continual cycle of sowing and reaping relatively good and relatively evil energies... weaving a web of attachment, inordinate desire and karmic entanglements down through the centuries to the present. We have created all this illusion from the first basic illusion: duality... a sense of separation from the inner God.
As painfill as the fall has been, i suppose that if we didn't experience the effects of our misuse of freewill how could we learn anything at all? If there was no bitter harvest how could we know we had sown the seeds of error. We couldn't know. We would each be a law unto ourselves and there would be no order anywhere in the universe.
An honest appraisal of ourselves, and a return to love [ the divine lover within ], and a willingness to walk the homeward path will ultimately bring the reward of the soul's wholeness and ascension into the I AM Presence, and with it the absolute spiritual liberty to conciously navigate all levels of the entire spirit / matter cosmos..... the spiritual freedom to create with unlimited cosmic energy. This can be a lot sooner than you think.
On the other hand, the continual sowing of the lower forces of hate, fear, revenge, greed etc sows the seeds of it's own destruction and ultimately non- being.
I think it was Moses who the bible records as saying :
" Ye have before you this day...
Life and Death
Choose Life! "
Life energy ? Or Death energy? One leads to the ascension and eternal life and the other, if it is not forsaken, will ultimately lead to the death of the soul in the "second death". It says somewhere in scripture:
" The soul that sinneth it shall die "
There is no eternal life except our soul awakens to the love of spirit within. But more of the good news in a minute...
We are all here on Earth in this time and this space because past karma necessitates it. What we have done, and what we have failed to do in the [ long ] past has predetermined our current challenges and oppotunities. What is not predetermined is how we use freewill to meet those challenges. That's where the rubber meets the road and that's where the tests come. The sands of opportunity have fallen through the hourglass of the past and the energy sown is being reaped in the now.
How we meet those challenges and opportunities today will determine our future. This is true on an individual level, a national level, and a planetary level. We must own the responsibility for every level because that karma will have it's effect on everyone.
Having said all that, i have heard it said : " If we cannot change the past we cannot change the future"

First of all, we can no more go back and change our 7th birthday cake than we can now incarnate into the past or future. But I do believe the soul may have been so traumatised in the past that fragments may have split off. If so they are somewhere around in the present and can be re-integrated through the inner christ conciousness in the present or the future. Our souls are currently incarnate on earth in the turning of cycles between the age of Pisces and the age of Aquarius. The current position of the Earth relative to the sun, the moon, the planets and stars is unique to now.
While it is true that ultimately it is always "NOW", our soul's awareness of time in the material plane relates to the position of the Earth in relation to the position of other celestial bodies. Time is something we measure by space.... ie.. when the earth moves through space to position itself at the opposite side of the Sun we measure that distance in kilometres and by increments of what we call time. ie. 4368 hours or, 182 days or, 26 weeks or six months.
It is simply movement through space at a certain speed that permits us to measure time. Speed = distance over time. Time = distance over speed. Time is [ though possibly variable ] a dependable frame that we can hang our hats on in each incarnation. Not eternally dependable though, so we must transcend it while we can. Time is movement. Nothing stays still and neither can we.
Our individual I Am Presence is above time and space but the divine plan is for 'it' to enter time and space through each of our incarnations. As far as i know this doesn't mean God can do this simultaneously in different time periods because the earth is not positioned everywhere simultaneously. Yes God is omnipresent but the earth is not. Planet Earth is moving through space and time in an orderly, predetermined fashion through the vast reaches of cosmic space. As well as speed and distance, we measure this movement in YEARS... one... after... the other.
In order to learn our karmic lessons in the use and misuse of conciousness and freewill our soul's opportunity is to enter each incarnation in the earth plane when the earth is in a particular position in relation to other planets and stars... a position in space that it has not been in before and will not be again. I do accept that in the inner planes between incarnations [ and while we sleep] much more experience can be packed into some other way of measuring the "time experience".
Our I AM Presence can cast a penetrating gaze into previous cycles [ all recorded in Akasha / divine memory] or into the future and predict events and future incarnations. This can be done by an appraisal of the current karmic state of each individual, the astrological influences over time and the pre-planned opportunities that the Spiritual Hierarchy will give to the planet and her people. Organisation and planning is the ongoing work of the spiritual hierarchy.
To paraphrase Francis Bacon [who later became Count St Germain] writing as Shakespeare:
" There is a tide in the affairs of men which taken at the crest leads on to fortune...
but if missed, all the voyage of ones life is bound in the shallows and miseries."
Right now that" tide in the affairs of men" and women is the opportunity given by hierarchy [ our elder brothers and sisters in the spiritual planes and our God parents ] to " change the past so that we can change the future" A great new dispensation has been given to ressurect the earth and her people. It will give effect to the "RAPTURE" mentioned in the bible. All sorts of ideas have appeared about the rapture from christian fundamentalists to "Stuie".
These all involve humans flying up into the air to heaven or dissapearing into hidden portals at "90 degrees to the left of albaquerque". Where did Jesus tell us the kingdom of heaven is? I distinctly remember him saying :
"if they tell you it is in the air the birds will preceed you... truly i tell you, the kingdom of heaven[ the conciousness of god] is within you"
The bible says something like:
" Two men working in the field... one is taken and the other is left"
The book of revelation mentions the taking up of the faithful up to heaven in the rapture.
But really the rapture is the rapture of divine love that happens within you when you become aware of the inner Christ conciousness. It will raise you up IN VIBRATION to be concious of youself in spiritual planes right while you occupy a physical body on earth.
Your not physically going anywhere... but your mind will be fixed on the inner Presence. If you seek and find the inner kingdom you will be "taken up" [ in conciousness ] but the person next to you, working in the field, sowing and reaping his karma as you are, may not seek and find the inner kingdom. If not, he/ she will not be "taken up" in the rapture.
The spiritual teachers are saying that NOW we can change [ transmute] the records of the PAST so that they are not carried forward into the FUTURE for repetition. The "past" is all the records of negative energy that we've been carrying around in our subconcious for thousands of years. It is the "lead" weight of human conciousness that as spiritual alchemists we can transmute into the "gold" of the spiritual conciousness.
Why are we angry 4dW? We have reaped a bitter harvest from the conciousness of ignorance lifetime after lifetime. Every karmic ill has sprung forth from the lower self. We have stumbled over ourselves in the material plane ad nauseum and it really is time to put an end to the suffering, the ignorance and the blindness that our carnal mind has brought upon our own heads.
But we have to believe it can be done and it has to be directly experienced. We cannot incarnate into the past but, if we discover the sacred fire within the 'inner kingdom' NOW, we can transmute the misqualified energy from PAST incarnations. How successful we are in that alchemical process will determine whether we even need to reincarnate in the future at all.
But one thing is sure... If we will engage in that process in this current lifetime, the past, present and future will never be the same. We will be in the drivers seat... our true nature in God.
Our ignorance of our true nature in God has persisted and has been aided and abetted by the dark forces in the physical and astral planes and this has made us more vulnerable to their feral behavior.
But Jesus [or saint Paul] said:
" He that is in you [ the christ conciousness and I AM Presence in you ]
is GREATER than he that is in the world [ the carnal mind/ human ego/worldly conciousness in self and others]"
Saint Germain has given the knowledge of the use of the " Violet Transmuting Flame". It is a high frequency spiritual energy [ the holy spirit ] which transmutes and consumes the accumulation of low frequency dark energies in us. When invoked by the power of the spoken word it decends from the I AM Presence in the spiritual plane and flows through the subconcious etheric, mental and astral/emotional planes and finally to the physical body to cleanse our chakras and all levels of being.
Over the years that i have used the Violet Fire i've felt it more physically than i used to and i have at times seen it appear glowing through my body. It really does lighten your load and produce change at deep levels... right where it's needed.
For an example of an invocation to the Violet Flame here is one by St Germain:
It is spoken deliberately and rythmically and repeated 3x or 9x [ or much more ]
" I AM the violet flame in action in me now
I AM the violet flame to light alone I bow
I AM the violet flame in Mighty Cosmic Power

I AM God's sacred power freeing everyone"
Remember Jesus said:
" unless you become as a little child you shall in no
wise enter in [ to the inner realisation of your God conciousness ]" ......
Try something new. Children do it every day.

Our boyfriends complain "She's on the rag" or use other demeaning terms to discredit a natural spiritual process that women have taken on for millenia. The real truth is that if the boyfriends weren't such assholes, we wouldn't have to process so much crap that they're carrying around in order to clear the psychic air! 
I was thinking about this thread last night. Its very interesting and it brings up a lot of questions I've had myself about human nature. I certainly believe in karma and in souls reincarnating with old baggage from a past life but there's another angle of this that I find intersting along the lines of what 4Dwannabe was saying. Where did it all begin?
