Re: The Music Thread

Re: The Music Thread

Hey Zoldo. Nice samples from Alcest... very ambient. Like a cross between Sigur Ros and Deftones, or maybe Blink 182 playing softly inside the Carlsbad Caverns. Sigur Ros did that song at the very end of Vanilla Sky.

Speaking of music from another world, I heard some of Therion's latest album "Gothic Kabbalah" and find it very good (from an esoteric metal point of view). Lyrics are interesting, centering on the works of a famous medieval mystic (Swedish version of John Dee) who combined runes with the kabbalah into a gnostic philosophy. Music is progressive metal with folk elements and orchestral layers. They have some clips on their myspace page.

Chain of Minerva wrote:

I look into the mirror, a picture appears
Future, future...
A prophecy I see
I behold in the well: 2012

On the cross, on the hanged man's flesh you can read the runes of this prophecy

I can read the signs
I see!
Eagles don't eat flies
Movements in the sky predict the year
The mind of mine flies high

Adelruna antiqua
The prophecy of Sibylla

I stand on the mountain
I decipher the runes
I see, I hear the link of Minerva
The sound of astral bells
2012

Well then! Syncronicity time it IS then!

Yes I know that song it is the one for the end where he jumps off the roof. That song always makes me tearey eyed and it just so happens that I _just_ finished downloading the movie this morning and I watched that portion of the movie just earlier today before I came online and read you posting about it! Those long drawn out guitars and the vocals really make that song fit well with that scene of the movie.

Only thing is are you sure it is by Sugar Rios? I always thought it was a Radiohead song.

Re: The Music Thread

Money, sex, in full control, a generation without soul,
Perfect people in a perfect world, behind closed doors all in control,
Life, in a world of luxury, cold cash money mentality,
You gotta keep the faith, you gotta keep the faith,
You better keep the faith and run away.

Chorus

It's time to break free, oh oh oh oh, run away, oh oh oh oh,
You better break free, oh oh oh oh, run away, oh oh oh oh.
Money, sex, in full control, look, big brother is watching you,
Unlock your brain and save your soul, no more limits, no more curfew,
Life in the perfect system, take a stand and fight for freedom,
Keep the faith, you gotta keep the faith,
You better keep the faith and run away.

Midnight Oil, cool band.   I remember getting the "Blue Sky Mining" album back in high school.     When I listen to "Forgotten Years" now, it makes me think about the way things were pre-9/11 more than anything else.    Those "should not be forgotten years."

A bunch of their videos are on Google Video.

Re: The Music Thread

I just heard this band and I thought it was pretty good. I hate linking to myspace, but this may be the best place to get a demo, 4 song clips and a video...
http://www.myspace.com/omnimotion

Omnimotion ... I'd classify as chill / triphop / downtempo / ambient ... so if you're into that sort of thing give it a listen.

Oops, and I didn't know these other guy[s] had web pages, plug for one of my favorite ambient artists:

Re: The Music Thread

Here's an idea for musicians and aficionados: Create a Best of 2008 music list. Get song names based on contact with
future selves, going to 2010. Musicians, make the hits yourself by reverse engineering from future self compositions.
