Re: The Music Thread

I love Iron Maiden!

Rainmaker by Iron Maiden

When I was wandering in the desert
And was searching for the truth
I heard a choir of angels calling out my name
I had the feeling that my life would never be the same again
I turned my face towards the barren sun

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves
And the cracks in our lives like the cracks upon the ground
They are sealed and are now washed away

[Chorus:]
You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away
You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears.....

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves
And the cracks in the ground like the cracks are in our lives
They are sealed and now far away

Although I have WinAmp, what’s noted below is via WMP:

The first Internet Radio I bumped into a few years back was via Jeff Rense called,  ‘Kozmik Radio’ which played Primo Ambient / Space Rock type stuff - Hours of straight music with only a once in a blue moon identifier, and most days not even that.

This was good for about a year, then the guy started yapping more and more - Then he changed it to: armed forces network (!), started running ads.......Gone bye bye!

Next was Radio IO Ambient:   WMP > Radio Tuner > New Age.
This was almost identical to Kozmik in the Primo, non-yapping realm.
This was also good for about a year ‘til they started a beg-a-thon, yapping and then running ads.......Gone bye bye!

Neglected to mention: Special Radio 6th Button - A Russian station that was also Primo but it stopped connecting (?).

In the last couple months, a new one came under the same New Age header called, “New Age Sky’ which is a bit ’gentler’ but every bit as good as the previous two - When I first tuned in, they ran a post office ad once a session (during the time I was online) and for the past few weeks, not even that - Just pure music.

Re: The Music Thread

I just listened to the song Jambi off of 10,000 days by Tool and it is un#%&$!ng believable. Really seriously on the unbelievable end of the musical spectrum. I can't wait to buy this album! Everyone should buy at least one copy of this album.

I am as is Void.

Re: The Music Thread

You know, concerning Tool, I listened to/watched that last video linked somewhere above and I must say I just wasn't impressed.  I liked Sober, and I even liked a song or two from Aenima.  But for some reason all Tools songs, including that latest one, they all just sound the same to me.

I dunno, maybe I just can't "dig" tool much anymore.  But theres something about it, just seems so dry, so bland.  Even with all the inflection its still just a flatliner to me.

Do I just suck, or is anyone else seeing this?

Re: The Music Thread

Well, Tool is fairly new to me, but I can see a total difference between Aenima, Lateralus and 10,000 Days.  I think at first a lot of music created by the same artist(s) sound the same at first, but after a few more hearings, you can start to distinguish the different sounds/notes in each song - for me anyways.

I've already heard the CD and I am still looking foward to getting the CD. smile

And if you were amazed by Jambi... just wait until you here Right In Two. wink

Re: The Music Thread

I actually did hear Right in Two yesterday on the radio at work. I stopped working when it came on. big_smile But yea Jambi definitely had more of an impact on me. It's that base riff that comes out of left field on you. And then just continuoulsy comes full circle throughout the song. It was . .  just . . . indescribable.

Re: The Music Thread

I just spent a ton a of money buying tickets for Tool's local show in KC.  Hope it's worth it.  The scalper I bought them from said 2 tickets to the show in New York were going for 700$.

It's the message of the songs that has gotten me.  Natural Mystic posted the words to Right in Two somewhere, but the whole album is deep.  Rosetta stoned is about a guy who is choosen to give a message to the world by Aliens but he forgot it.  Vicarous is about how the US, gets its dose of violence throught the telivising of the destruction that we reek upon the world.  Right in two is about how God gave humans free will and we use it to destroy.  I'm just skimming the surface here, listening to the lyrics is like hearing a mindblowing story for me.

"...But Nothing is Lost:" "Nothing lasts... nothing lasts. Everything is changing into something else. Nothing's wrong. Nothing is wrong. Everything is on track. William Blake said nothing is lost and I believe that we all move on." - Terrence McKenna - Shpongle - But Nothing Is Lost

Re: The Music Thread

-
     We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
     Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
     And sitting by desolate streams;
     World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

     With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
     We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
     Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
     Can trample an empire down.

     We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
     Built Nineveh with our sighing,
     And Babel itself with our mirth;
     And o'erthrew them with prophesying
     To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Ode - Arthur O'Shaughnessy

"Run to the Water" by Live

Oh desert speak to my heart
Oh woman of the earth
Maker of children who weap for love
Maker of this birth
'til your deepest secrets are known to me
I will not be moved
I will not be moved
"Don't try to find the answer
When there ain't no question here
Brother let your heart be wounded
And give no mercy to your fear"
Adam and Eve live down the street from me
Babylon is every town
It's as crazy as it's ever been
Love's a stranger all around
In a moment we lost our minds here
And lay our spirits down
Today we lived a thousand years
All we have is now
Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
These streets below the moon
And I will never leave you
'til we can say "this world was just a dream
we where sleeping now we are awake
'til we can say
In a moment we lost our minds here
And dreamt the world was round
A million mile faal from grace
Thank God we missed the ground
Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
With a nuclear fire of love in our hearts
Yeah I can see it now Lord
Out beyond all the breakin' of waves
And the tribulation
It's a place and a home of ascended souls
Who swam out there in love
Run to the water
And find me there
Burnt to the core but not broken
We'll cut through the madness
Of these streets below the moon
With a nuclear fire of love in our hearts
Rest easy baby, rest easy
And recognize it all as light and rainbows
Smashed to smithereens and be happy
Run to the water and find me there
Run to the water

Re: The Music Thread

To the poster "google" who mentions metal being abrasive, in your face and just overall not good.  I think the 'metal' world has evolved a lot since the days of Black Sabbath in that most of the GOOD bands are either very spiritual or very heavy of the classical and orchestral influence.

Within Temptation are (especially earlier material) very spiritual and classical based (Perfect Harmony and Mother Earth being perfect examples) while bands like Tool, Pain of Salvation and some of Devin Townsend's solo material are very heavily influenced by positive, happy feelings.

Even 'angry' bands like Hatebreed have uplifting, spiritual lyrics.  The music may be in your face, but that is the hook to get you to THINK about what they are saying.

"Metal" isn't the dummies music anymore.

Metal music is intellectual. It's often about politics, social issues, history, mythology, and spirituality.  It's why I listen to it instead of mainstream crap on the radio that's all about sex, drinking, and getting rich.

Megadeth--"New World Order"

Where have the apostles gone?
Joining hands with wicked ones
Revelation has come to pass
New World Order will hold the mass

A book written by man
Used to control and command
All rights will be denied
Without the mark you shall die

No confession, all is known
New World Order, you shall be shown

Monitoring all wages
New World Order comes in stages
Your currency is obsolete
Feel the agony of defeat

Symbol of society today
A must - have or you shall pay
As humans’ flesh leads the mind
Just a pawn, the last martyr dies

No confession, all is known
New World Order, you shall be shown

Where have the apostles gone?
Joining hands with wicked ones
Revelation come to pass
New World Order will hold the mass
