Topic: life after the microwave...

What does one do?

If one has lived with a microwave, it is a difficult proposition (based purely on convenience) to move beyond the microwave.

After trying a convection rotisserie oven, one is left with memories of speed heating.

It's like a terrible habit that seems to make food consumption so much easier.

Where do we go from here?

Re: life after the microwave...

I haven't used a microwave in years.   Or a t.v.!   Two evils that are gone from my life.

You learn not to eat frozen "t.v. dinners".   You learn to start cooking real food, using a pot, on a stove top, or cooked in an oven.   You learn to start eating more raw veggies / salads, which are great for you.   It may feel like running into a brick wall the first two weeks as old habits die hard, but soon the memories fade.  smile   It's easier than it seems.

We need to get away from instant prep food, I think.  It's unhealthy.  We need to learn how to make our food from scratch again.   The biggest issue for most is time.  "But I don't have time."   Yes we do.  We just think we don't.  Any time spent in front of a t.v., puttering on the internet, lollygogging and loafing around is time that we have to invest in food preparation.  It all boils down to how you want to invest your time.   Plus, when you ween yourself from an "instant gratification" lifestyle, of which microwave cooking is included, you learn how to slow down.  So what previously seemed like something that took "forever" to do, now feels normal.

Re: life after the microwave...

I agree -- it's an evil.  But the majority of kitchens contain one.

Will there be no other way to heat food with equal ease?  Is it so far ahead in convenience and also unmatched in technology?

The thinking is, maybe there is another way to transfer kinetic energy to water besides using microwave frequencies... something that might allow for the continuation of what subtle memory such water possesses.

Like what about using sound/vibration?  In conjunction with a Schauberger device...

Re: life after the microwave...

I agree with lyra, once you start cooking real meals, it really doesn't feel that long. I even find it pleasant, as it offers some rest to my mind and allows my unconscious to do some processing smile  (That make me think of people who rush with their cars, stressing themselves up just to "gain" a few minutes -- how sad). Anyway, I don't know if there will be other technologies which are better and just as fast. I think that the problem is more attached to the intention of getting things done quickly, "aggressing" the food in a way, rather than allowing the natural process to occur. This applies to the whole food industry.

Re: life after the microwave...

I agree.  I guess part of me just wonders if there is even a chance to offer the vast majority of kitchen owners a replacement to their microwave.  We here, it sounds, have done our homework and have made important decisions about the micro.  But if the some of the majority are ever going to change - in conjunction with being offered a valid explanation for the dangers of microwave cooking/heating - they will need a viable replacement to be sure.

You guy's are totally right, though.  It is symptomatic of mankind's increasingly short attention span.  sad

Re: life after the microwave...

Well here's your chance to invent someting Cameron!  smile  Seems there just may be a niche in the marketplace for some faster food cooker devise which doesn't involve microwaves, for those "on the run."   I think the only reason people keep using microwaves is for lack of another choice being presented to them.

I just remembered something too......Laura once asked the C's if there was any danger in microwaved food.  Their answer was something like "Not really."  Kind of dismissive about it, implying that whatever dangers existed were pretty inconsequential.   I read that and frowned, not fully believing it.  smile  I figured, well, it can't hurt NOT to use them.....right???!    big_smile

Re: life after the microwave...

I stopped using the microwave 2 weeks ago, which I agree with Lyra, it isn't as bad as one thinks.

Havent' started eating very healthy yet. But am working on it. Fact is, I dont think I like the idea of going completely back to making everything scratch, and there are some foods I do buy that I might get scolded on. I buy my gliders instant food as well. I know maybe yogurt should be taken off the list but they eat that, however I have cut down on the babyfood and just started blending chicken/turkey/whatever meat with vegetables together...I have also stopped buyign applesauce and dry baby oatmeal.

Anyway here are some links I think you all would enjoy.

Re: life after the microwave...

What cured me of microwave dependence was discovering that microwaves actually (temporarily, I think) changed the shape of the water molecule. I had been 'heating' water for colloidal silver production in a microwave oven, but the result wasn't effective. Then I learned about the molecular distortion and guessed it might be the problem. My CS has been good since I returned to stovetop heating. Also, I read that all microwave ovens leak, and that the 'safety' standards are created by a commission consisting of microwave oven manufacturers!

Holy crap!  Just read that first link, Abra.  (shudder)

Re: life after the microwave...

Hiya, I havnt used a microwave in over 10 years, in fact my intuition told me when our family first got one that it was dangerous to health so i have always tried to encourage my family to not use one, however they still do, but when im home mum only uses the oven so thats nice...  I dont see the big deal about having to use an oven, sure it takes a little longer but it tastes so much nicer!! Theres just no comparison... I was never able to eat microwaved food as I found out that I will either be violently sick within 15 minutes of eating a microwaved meal at a restaurant or develop severe diahhorea so now I have to ask every time i goto a cafe or restaurant otherwise... out it comes!!!  My body just rejects it due to the huge amount of toxic proteins that are created when microwaved food is cooked. New types of proteins that are alien to the body and considered as waste, thats why for some people the body tries to expell it as fast as possible...
