Topic: Request for active moderation

I am a person who generally believes in letting all people express their views in discussion groups for the purpose of sharing ideas and helping each other find Truth.  A few months ago on this forum, there was an instance where I specifically requested the moderator to change his mind about a particular decision to delete comments from a thread in the interest of allowing others to benefit from some negative material.

I believe, instead, that the line should only be drawn when certain individuals or groups of people have been established to be intentionally trying to generate discord or discontent among the earnest members of the group who are in good faith trying to have intelligent discussions. Unfortuately, I feel this is presently the case.

Virtually all of the peaceful, regular contributing members to NR who have been here for the last few months have, in the past few days, posted complaints in one thread or another.  These complaints center around the actions of certain people who have recently shown up and in various ways are seriously diluting the quality of information on this forum.  I am concerned that if this continues, new truthseekers who come across Noble Realms may take one look at this forum and decide "this isn't for me," or worse, we may begin losing existing good members who get frustrated with the nonsense.

I therefore suggest that action should be taken, and my personal feeling is that in this particular case it should deal with the reviewing the suitability for NR membership of a few specific individuals.

I ask that others who have been around for awhile to post their own thoughts here as well.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking today about discontinuing my participation on the NR forum. It is becoming a "haven" (pun intended) for some very easily offended folks who have a strong belief system to defend. I had a feeling that I would be targetted again today if I made any posts and so I almost didn't, but I wanted to respond to tilli's postings in the Twin Flame thread. So, I thought, "f*ck it, I'm not gonna let these narrow minded idiots chase me away," and I responded to her. And, wouldn't you know it, I get flamed almost immediately after posting. I make no apologies for my use of harsh language when dealing with these individuals. They are stupid annoying fucks as far as I am concerned, and I echo your concerns about them affecting the quality of posts and posters here.

EDIT: After talking to Kathy (freeme) about this, I'd just like to add one other thing here and then I am done with this. Although my comments above relate primarily to Haven and John the Revelator, I'd also like to add some additional thoughts about our other friend, Moralman. That guy is just a complete time waster, folks. He posts questions here like he's open to learning from the replies, but when the replies are in he just states his already assumed Biblical/2012 obsessed point of view. He is also completely intolerant of uniqueness and individuality, bigoted, and genuinely homophobic. Oh sure, he tries to gloss it over, but he's shown his true colors far too many times to adequately apply damage control later. To me, Noble Realms is a community of LEARNERS. If you aren't here to learn, if you just want to preach your own narrow minded, homophobic, juvenile crap, then this is probably not the place for you.

Freeme, I think it's quite possible that you may be right.

Neo,  my experience tells me that quitting is never a good response to a problem, when fixing the problem is an option -- even if it takes considerably more energy to do so.  You can't get anywhere without effort.

Great, then lets fix this and get back to business as normal here. This is all just a time wasting distraction.

I'll restate here what I did on the Mckenna thread. I don't feel I have been here long enough to put forth my view. For all I know I could be one of the trouble makers, so I will take my lumps. I don't post regularily anywhere so any guidance I welcome. I feel I am putting forth an effort to be respectful of peoples backgrounds and to not use dividing language and terms.

Peace,
Teddy

T-Ren, suffice it to say that I don't think ANYONE was referring to you in their complaints.

And in that other thread, I believe your exact words were:

T-Ren wrote:

I am tired of Christianity getting brought up in so much.

and

T-Ren wrote:

Ayahuasca made no mention of any connection to Christianity, yet moralman brought his post around to it. I think every post or pretty much every post Continues to make use of cut dry biblical terms without any attempt to use terms more suitable to this forum.

And I think most will agree with you.  I certainly do.   It's nice to have you aboard. So cheers, and peace.

I agree with everything said here. While I'm certainly not considering giving up on this forum just yet, there's only so much more nonsense I can take from people like Moralman and his new friends.

I doubt anyone here wants to see authoritarian style moderation and have strict rules about what can or can't be said. However, I do feel that a line has to be drawn somewhere, and Moralman has certainly crossed over that line a few too many times recently.

If you want to talk about wrestling, find a wrestling forum. If all you want to do is talk about Jesus then please go and find a Christian forum. Noble Realms is for open-minded truthseekers who just want to be friends and learn from each other. And learning does not mean constantly asking silly questions all the time, while not even making any attempt to understand the answers.

Re: Request for active moderation

Lest we forget:  last night was the new moon.  Montalk has already commented about the effects of the moon and lo and behold John the Revelator was right there showing how accurate indeed Montalk's finding had been.

Personally though I would not like to see John nor Moralman banned from the board for the following reasons:

Both enable me to resist the temptation of re-acting to them.  I have attempted to offer suggestions to Moralman which were ignored.  Fine.  Saves me from doing so again, in the near future at least.  Others are free to respond to him and others.  I don't intend to.

Secondly, the danger of new members not joining because of a few I feel is slim.  There are just way too many bright, intelligent, cogent posts here to be scared off by a few.  Or so I believe.

Thirdly, what both John and Moral bring -- is a chance to observe my own behavior, reactions etc.
In other words, while I can't stand the continuous biblical references, I have to look at the fact that I tend to "preach" to others about how terrific Stuart Wilde and other's like him are, how incredible life is with a broader look etc.  Not everyone is slightly interested in what I am so SURE is uplifting.  Therefore, Moral has pointed out to me -- although probably not his purpose -- what a drag it is to always be on a roll about MY thing.

I haven't yet found what John might be showing me --

Last but not least, it's difficult nay impossible to know where someone is really coming from.  Perhaps both John and Moral have come UP a great deal from their pasts, their lifetimes etc.  I am a great believer in the ability of anyone to grow and while, to me, they seem pretty stuck -- perhaps NR is a place they have an opportunity to get "unstuck."  And this doesn't have to be at the expense of any of us.

That said, I just don't plan to get myself mired into their glue.  They and/or others of their ilk will either unstick themselves or because they are ignored will chose to leave.

And to T-Ren -- I definitely find your presence here uplifting and don't feel you were being pointed to in the least!

To morningsun76 - I believe this post of yours is excellent as it clearly shows how disruptive certain members have been.  And acts as an alert actually to one and all.  I have, in the past, been horribly reactive and paid dearly for it, in that I felt so badly.  Fortunately Montalk offered me a chance to reflect on my mean-spirited attitude, rather than ban me.

As members of a growing community we each share the responsibility with our communication to choose to respond, ignore or  re-act to a post.

Some valid points are raised.  The action that was recently taken to secure Tom a faster and more stable connection to the net may act to quench much of these concerns.  Mainly, as Tom is the sole moderator for the forum, it'll only help to have him around more often.

Thanks for the assurance.

Re: Request for active moderation

Hi all,

Well, there's also the option to just ignore somebody.   It usually works wonders.   Until the problem gets resolved and the troublemakers get banned or leave on their own, I think in the time being we should all just ignore their posts.

-  If they quote you and challenge something you say......don't respond.   There's no law in the world of messageboards that say anybody has to respond to anyone.   Just ignore it.  If you can't, then it's ego talking, making you feel that you "have" to respond to defend yourself, your beliefs, your words, etc.   I know, cause I found myself doing that as well with Moralman, trying to endlessly clarify my own words which he kept twisting around.  I have also had to resort to the "ignore" tactic with another poster here who was doing their best to try to "draw me out" and provoke responses from me over and over and over.   It works, trust me.   Fights and debates are a 2 way street, remember that.  It takes two to tango.   If one half of the equation refuses to play, then there's no game.   wink

-  If they make a reference to you in their post to somebody else.....ignore it.   Squelch ego and just ignore it.  Look the other way.

- If they start a thread..........don't participate.   Read it if you want, sure, but don't contribute.   I mean, everybody here is responsible for whether or not they type a response then push the "SUBMIT" button.    Don't even make the post in the first place!    How hard is that??    How hard is it to get up and walk away from your computer?   When you really think about the nature of the 'net and messageboards especially, it really is one of those things that "becomes real" in our heads.   It's words on a screen that our minds make real.   There's a certain degree of "getting lost in fantasy" that takes place when participating on a messageboard.   Ideas become laced with feelings and emotions that don't actually physically exist until your brain creates it.  Words on a screen become "someone" that's provoking you.  I mean, think about it.

Anyway, eventually the troublemakers will hang themselves, and you can walk away looking better then you would have had you succombed to ego and responded and fought and squabbled.

My concern the same as morningsun76's, that new posters to NR will be turned off by what just happened recently.   Some long time posters who contribute greatly have been put in positions where they now look very unsavory, to say the least.  Both by the actions of others, as well as their own behavior in response.  Me included, I'm sure, for saying that I don't think Moralman is "all there" and thinking that wrestling is something silly to be concerned about.   It all boils down to getting an upperhand on self control...

Re: Request for active moderation

When I see an otherwise vital thread littered with nasty kwap like how John the Rev dumped trash on the Twin Flames thread last night, then yeah, I'm looking for moderation. His little crud making tyrade did not a thing one to serve anyone but himself.
