1. What is your opinion on the death penalty?

I think most haven't got the moral position to put someone to death as a punishment.

1) We have been given this live, like everyone else. What gives someone the right to rule over live and death of others? I think it's a boundary which shouldn't be crossed in this insensitive way.
2) The penalty is not a penalty, as a penalty you give so someone can learn from it. A person cannot learn from a death penalty as he is dead. So it seems the important reason for a death penalty is revenge. I think that no matter what happened - revenge cannot be more important then respect for life itself.
Love thy enemies to death (not some fuzzy kind of love-bombing).
3) One cannot rule out the possibility of making a mistake 100%, making the state the murderer of the innocent.

2. Do you think that it is fair that people have been imprisoned for injuring or killing an intruder who breaks into their homes?

For sure those people can bear a responsibility of injuring the intruder to some degree. Even "criminals" are still human people.
It all depends on the context, (degree of self-defense usw.), so I cannot give a yes/no answer to this closed question.

Now is my view down to earth as you phrase it, or is different from yours... and would this make it less down to earth?

1. A ridiculously primitive "eye for an eye" system of "justice".
2. Fair? Of course not. If someone breaks into my home, he'll be lucky to come out alive. What would the law have me do? Offer him tea and biscuits while he stuffs my belongings into his sack?

I have a few questions about law, order and justice in the World.
Since this is an alternative view forum it would be interesting to see if you all have a down to Earth view on the justice system or if you think along different lines.
Here are the questions.
1. What is your opinion on the death penalty?
2. Do you think that it is fair that people have been imprisoned for injuring or killing an intruder who breaks into their homes?
These are two very controversial issues within the justice system and this forum subject could trigger are very good debate.
If you could kindly take the time out of your work schedules to answer these questions A.S.A.P I'd appreciate it.
