There are many other issues involving elimination of bank notes. 

For example: I was getting fuel the other day and all I had was a $100, but I only put $20 worth of fuel in the tank (as always, hoping that the prices will drop the next time I fuel up).  The clerk tells me "We don't accept $100 bills!".  I said : "What??  Let me ask you a question... Is this $100 bill called money?"  the clerk aswered: "Yes" I immediately followed by "Then you better accept this note or the company will have a lawsuit on their hands!!".  Without further due the $100 was accepted with a final statement from the clerk "I shouldn't do this, but this time I'll make an exception".  I just gave the clerk an ironic smile and said "I'll see you next time."

It is impossible to get paid by means of a paycheck, your salary goes straight into your bank-account. It has been like this for at least 10 years now... A growing number of banks are shutting down their branch offices, offering only online banking, and the only way you can get to your money, is through your VISA/debit-card. A new system of credit rating on a national basis, tracks your financial stability over time, monitoring i.e. how much taxes you pay, what your income is, how many times you've moved (If you move frequently, your credit goes down the drain), how many second notices you have recieved and the list goes on. You end up with a rating on a scale decided by the biggest credit-risk companies, and if you're below a certain threshold, you can't loan money for a home, new car, get a credit card etc. Now, this is hardly of any concern to me, as I rent a small apartement, don't own a car (or a drivers license for that matter), and I don't need/want credit cards. But I think it's symptomatic of a deep urge for massive control by the moneymaking-powers-that-be.

My library card is now electronic, registering all loans in a central database somewhere, which is frustrating because someone can monitor what books I've read. I take the bus almost daily, and they're replacing the old stamp-based monthly commute-cards with electronic ones. This means that I will have to swipe that card every time I get on a bus, silently registering my every move...

A new danish company are in the process of testing a new system that monitors where you are when attending festival etc. (i.e. the famous Roskilde Festival) by tapping into the Bluetooth chipset embedded in most cellphones.

Previously, you could buy pre-paid cellphone-subscriptions that didn't require registration, this offer has been outlawed by the norwegian government, as they now require you to register your address with the phone-company (and they verify that the address corresponds to the one linked to your social security number).

As a resident of a country under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, I can travel to the U.S without getting a visa, but if I do, I am required to register my fingerprints, as well as having my picture taken, on arrival. I also have to waive any right to object, should I be refused entry for some reason (like if the officer on duty has a bad day).

Living off the grid will become increasingly difficult in the coming years, and although I fell relatively safe in this corner of the world, the prospect of surrendering more and more freedom is truly alarming.

The latest involved the temp company I was recently just working for (before I went out and got a job on my own).    Right as I was finishing up with them 3 weeks ago and transitioning over to my new job, the temp company sent out a letter with our paychecks telling everybody that they would be switching banks very shortly, (due to being bought out by another company) and that this was a bank that did not have any branches here in Virginia, so, as a result, they are STRONGLY URGING all of their associates to just switch to Direct Deposit with their own local banks.

Hahn??   I just couldn't get over that, the way they were basically TELLING everybody what they should be doing, and creating a situation where they were backing everybody into a corner and then only presenting them with one option...direct deposit.  That's it.   It was just like that other temp company I registered with who presented only one paycheck option to me...the plastic Visa paycheck card.     !!

So now this company is doing the same thing, basically.   Strongly pushing / presenting only one option for receiving one's paycheck, and it just so happens to be non-cash form.    The kicker is, there are other options, both if you have a bank account, and if you don't have a bank account.    If you have a bank account, you can still bring your physical paycheck to your bank branch and get it cashed for cash back.    And if you don't have a bank account, it's called......Check Cashing Stores.    They're everywhere, and go by various names, but they are there, and it's always another option.   You don't **have** to do Direct Deposit or have a plastic paycheck card.    They charge nominal fees to cash your checks, but then again, so doesn't Bank of America if you cash one of their checks but you're not an account holder.   

I tell you, the more that people try to push no-cash on me, the more I get all stubborn and persistant.  Although in the end, I know it's a losing battle, and even using check cashing stores is still another form of evil.   Two sides of the same coin.     

So at any rate, it was just lucky timing for me that I decided to head out on my own and left the temp company right as all this malarky was going down.    !!   What a headache.    I just love though how they picked some obscure bank that has no branches in Virginia.     Gotta love it....

What if everyone publicized the VISA=666 connection?  Would that help?

That's definitely a start.  One goal of mine would be to convince as many people as possible to stop already with the friggin' plastic cards.   Just so no!   Stop with the whole buying crap on credit.   Learn how to budget your money.   Don't live above your means.  I would be like one of those debt counseling services, only for free, and doing it because I want to chip away at the system. 

Oh yes....that's anohter thing, speaking of debt.......the new industry of debt counseling and credit management.   With the proliferation of credit card / debit usage in this country has come the inevitable debt from overspending and going hogwild.  It's spawned an entirely new industry, devoted JUST for that, charging people money to help them "fix" their credit report and consolidate their debts and get back on track.   What a little scheme, eh?    They handed the children the plastic cards while simultaneously creating the industry to bail them out of that.  TPTB make double the money and they are literally laughing all the way to the bank.

Just say no to plastic and just say no to VISA!
