The guy from the Higher Balance institute mentioned briefly that he suspects lemons and rye bread have assisted states of increased psychic abilities. What came to my mind was the pH factor, because both of those are alkalizing. Of all the various health tips, pH balancing has been the most immediately noticeable and practical for me.

If my pH is too low, forget about getting anything done... energy low, motivation low, mood low. Complete opposite with proper pH. I think there is something more going on than just chemistry, but rather some exotic physics effect where the increased negative ion concentration due to the alkalinity does something to bring in extra etheric energy.

I also found coffee to be strongly alkalizing, or maybe it's just the caffeine, contrary to what most pH food charts say... some of these charts are put together willy nilly based on what foods are known to be "politically correct" versus not, so find a chart that matches your own results. If you eat something that is alkalizing, be prepared to feel more energized and awake. But if you start feeling tingly in your hands and lips as though hyperventilating, then you overdosed. I've only gotten that a few times with salads laced with onions and lots of apple cider vinegar.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that traditional cultural foods seem designed to maintain pH. Like take German food... it often includes pork, which is quite acid-forming, but counters it with vinegar, onions, and rye bread. The foods that are completely against pH balancing are modern junk foods and white breads, which come from social engineering, industrial waste reprocessing, and corporate profit maximization instead of time-tested tradition.

First of all, like others have said, there definitely are discrepancies between any two charts you look at, for instance, quinoa and amaranth are always switching sides, and some fruits and veggies, on the whole though, it is great.

murphy wrote:

despite the grand advice that lemon is alkalizing, yet it can be VERY irritating to acid intolerant people

You are misunderstanding what is being referenced here. Yes, lemons other citrus fruits are very acidic, but, counterintuitively they are among the most alkalizing foods available. To determine the effect it will have on your body chemistry, you need to look at the ph of the ash, not the fresh food, to understand what the ph will be once the food has been metabolized. One of the main acidifying agents is sugar, and so the sweeter the fruit is, the weaker the alkalizing effect will be.

What isn't realized by the people touting alkalizing diets though, is that breath and posture are more important to body ph than diet. A full explanation would be long and complicated, so here is a link that explains this in detail (I posted this earlier, so some of you are already familiar, but if not, I HIGHLY recommend this short ebook, it is profound and easily applicable)

http://www.healsa.co.za/Essential_Health_Book.doc
or
http://www.healsa.co.za/Essential_Health_book.pdf
depending on what format you prefer (or is least painful for you)

I have been drinking mag water the last few years. I mix 3oz magnesium hydroxide (milk of mag, plain) in 2 liters of cold seltzer, shake well several times until clear (takes a few hours). This produces magnesium bicarbonate solution. I add about 8 oz. to my drinking water (2 liters) daily. A guy in Australia named Beckett markets this stuff. He claims animals in a certain area with a lot of magnesium bicarbonate in the water supply have extended longevity, and supposedly he has a lot of satisfied customers.
We use bicarbonate infusions in the hospital to protect the kidneys during contrast dye procedures.
I have a champion juicer and drink a pint daily of carrot, lemon, pineapple, melon and some added frozen grape juice concentrate. Carrots and grape juice are high in monoatomic iridium.
My ph is almost always basic. Oddly enough I have found that using a zapper overnight raises the ph quite a bit.

*BUMP!* Great info & links in this thread.

Speaking of dorks, I bought a pH tester last year for seeing how I was doing. I'll relay my experiences in a minute but first this from the BLEEP's Dr. Gordon:

http://www.whatthebleep.com/herald16/health.shtml Dr. Gordon wrote:

Generally your saliva pH should be about 7.4 and your urine around 6.4. Normally your pH readings will vary throughout the day - generally urine is more acidic when you first wake up than it is in the evening. Your pH readings will also depend upon other factors, including the kinds and amounts of foods and beverages you consume during the day, stress, and proper nerve supply to the gastro-intestinal region.

You will find that certain foods can increase and decrease acid production. In my practice I have found that nutrients Hypo-D and standard process Zypan are excellent products to “prime the pump of stomach acid until you are able to get it “turned on and functional.

As a broad outline, the following is a list of acid-increasing and acid-decreasing foods:

Foods that decrease Salivary pH and increase Urinary pH:
Vegetables, Potatoes, and Fruits

Foods that increase Saliva pH and increase Urinary pH:
Meat, Fish, Eggs, and Cottage Cheese

Foods that decrease Salivary pH and increase Urinary pH (typo- i think he means 'decrease Urinary pH' here):
Cereals, Breads, and Grains

Foods that increase Salivary pH and decrease Urinary pH:
Fats & Oils, Milk, Cheese, Butter and Cream

Note - what he's saying here might fly in the face of conventionaly just a bit. That is, the common belief that veggies = good = higher pH and most meat and everything else = bad = lower pH. So we may have a bit more leeway to work with if Dr. Gordon's a bit closer here.

My own experience: I actually have correlated a lower saliva pH to a worse mood, and vice versa. Example:
- On Sept 29 with no food for 2.5+ hours, and being in a bad mood, I tested 5.65 Saliva pH.
- On Sept 30 with no food for 2.5+ hours, and a noticeably better mood, I tested 6.46 Saliva pH. Still low though...

I just tested myself now and am at 6.7 pH Saliva, and I actually did a urine test and was 5.82. Still a ways to go for me to get to to 7.4 and 6.4! But just thought I'd share... it really does seem to correlate to how you feel!!

Last post not meant to be derogatory at all. But, truly Murphy, have you ever asked your body what is going on? Do you feel very grounded in it? I have read stories of different people just asking their cells what's going on. I know when I feel something needs addressing I frequently find out in my out of body time. "Hey, your kidneys need some support!" or "Do something about your pancreas!" or " This why your body is doing what it is doing", (refering to my thinning hairline), and my attention is directed to my root chakra. A floatation tank is a very nice place to relax and explore. I built one, floated twice, and quit smoking which for me was pretty extraordinary.
Also, ten years ago I read a researcher kept a chicken heart alive for 26yrs by keeping the fluids it was suspended in alkaline and frequently flushed. It died while he was away when someone forgot to flush the fluids, or something like that. FYI if you didn't already know, when the body is too acidic it leaches minerals from the soft tissues, the bones, the whole body if there aren't enough reserves to buffer the toxic acids which are then stored in the fatty tissues once the eliminatory organs and lymph systems are completely congested. The body then turns on itself. Eeeek!
