I never knew penguins lived so far south, but I thought this was interesting since there have been a number of movies about penguins in the last three years both live action and animated.

For the longest time I attributed marine mammal beachings as strictly a pollution issue, but recently I heard Alan Watt cite the problem being caused from naval sonar transponders which are placed in the ocean in a grid pattern for navigation. It certainly seems like a much more plausable explaination in that all these animals involved rely on sonar for their own seasonal migrations. These transponders foul and confuse the animals inate navigational abilities.

I came across an article at the website fourfour last night. The author is quite a good writer, though a little too obsessed with mainstream telelvision, but he's very smart and he's a cat person who posts pics of his adorable cat Winston among other insightful things.

Anyway, he pointed out that there's been a whole slew of silly CGI Pixar movies about animals and specifically Penguins lately. I had wondered what it was all about, and he says that its an attempt to get people to think everything is ok in the north pole and the animals are happy and partying. The latest movie is about a penguin who becomes a surfer and travels to a tropical island [!!] to compete with other penguins in a surfing contest. Its called "Surfs Up" Ummm yeah....I don't think that would be a good thing somehow.

Oh don't worry, go back to sleep. The arctic animals are travelling south and will be happy in their new global warming climate...

Here's the movie poster. Also look at the caption: "A true story" [??????!!!!]
