It does more harm than good. It depletes vitality, energy, and awareness. It takes your life away from you the more you do it. I would recommend to people now to abstain from it as much as they possibly can, perhaps for life. The more you preserve the energy the more growth, strength, and awareness youll have...youll live longer, healthier and youll be more productive with more to offer and give. Youll have less depression, less pain. Thats just my experience. I try not to do it at all anymore. After about a month without sex I start to feel re-energized, as if I have a vast store of energy at my disposal. I operate from abundance and not deficit, and thats better for me psychologically.

These are continual, and in the past I suffered with them, denying the urge, ( or in times past giving in to the urge all too easliy ), but now I know the menstrual cycles, I note my dreams, I know I can hold on for so long and still be quite sane.

But there comes a time (the 4th/5th day) , when a release HAS to be made (otherwise my body/mind will go apeshit), then, at (my) chosen time, I will follow the strong sexual impulse, and release, but without the usual formation of a mental thoughtform.  Hard to desrcibe without being crude, but culminating in flaccid  ejaculation after a sustained period of erotic erectile impluse. There may very well be something to it.

Question is how to repress this 'natural' urge, especially for a man, in a way that does not lead to unhealthy "pressure cooker" type build-up of unreleased sexual energy. All men not in active relationships (and with normal function of the sexual systems) will get the urge to either jack off or have (casual) sex, usually often. Bad results from not getting this relief, have been registered. I guess it's all about ones state of mind and way of thought, when it all comes to it.

I think that sex with the wrong partner or in the wrong way or wrong situation can be just as draining, if not more so, than masturbation. It all depends on the energy dynamix. I can give myself an orgasm that leaves me fealing vital and clean and refreshed. And I can have an orgasm with a partner that I love and afterwards feel bitter and disgusted. When I consciously direct my sexual energy through my body, think 'good' thoughts, and make a willful decision about whether to have an orgasm or not (at this point I generally want to only have about one per week) then I find my sexuality is very empowering and feels wonderful.

Maybe it is importend to supress the urge to masturbate or have casual sex, but I don't think it is good to supress sexual energy in general. It is a very, very powerful source of energy. It can be cultivated and used to heighten one's awareness, creativity, and general powers. Before one can make use of it, one must have conscious control of it. One must undo the conditioning that our unhealthy sex culture which includes pornography visits upon us.

Capitan, you might consider finding some support. Orgasm and porn can very much be an addiction like drugs or alcohol, and it's not always easy to break such a habit by yourself. Most men probably have a simillar problem as you (I have it), but we don't reallly talk about it in our society. If you can't find support in your existing social group, you might find a men's group in your area that deals with these issues, or at least something on the internet.

I can reccomend a book that talks about this stuff. It's called "Taoist Secrets of Love - Cultivating the Male Sexual Energy". As far as I can tell it is a legitimate exposition of taoist sex practices that have been kept secret, probably because the practice can unlock so much power. I'd say it's as powerful (thus dangerous) as any kind of magical working. The book suggests that one should NEVER ejuculate, except for procreation. I think this practice is necessary if one is ready to fully cultivate the light body and achieve taoist immortality, but isn't really practical for most of us. Still, the exersizes and techniques it offers will help one to redirect the flow of energy so that rather than it all going out the penis, it can climb the latter. It's really the essence of kundalini practices, but is practical and real, not just meditation and visualization.
