Nader is in with the lawyers lobby, which is part of the reason he is against big business. He'd like to file lawsuits against them to make more money. He also has accepted donations from the Republican party, the very people he's trying to bring down. That comes across as hypocritical to me. Of course, I realize there is a part of Nader that is genuinely looking out for the public. After all, he was a huge 'consumer advocate' back in the day. However, these days I think he's looking out mainly for himself.

Not to get involved in politics, but on a personal note. Nadar is the only "politician" running for president that I've actually learned something from.  It says something to me, in this day and age, when one can actually stand the sight and sound of anyone at or attempting to be at the highest executive level.  That said, most of these 'people', and I use the term loosely, are profoundly disillusioned individuals.  Many walk and talk like a robot might do, were a robot allowed to run for office.  And no wonder, given their primp and pressing -- careful preparation for "show-time", "screen-time", and "press-time".  What about off-time?  Do they talk the same, think the same, express themselves the same?

My brother one said about his future-wife, "If she loves and appreciates me at my absolute worst, then she deserves to be with me at my best."  The point is, we've never known most of these candidates or our presidents or leaders in the past to have a "worst moment".  They don't allow themselves to express that to the public.  It's often more meaningful to know someone's shining moment relative to their moment of shame.  This is a human experience, one with different phases and different cycles of being.

Seeker, I've never met an African-American who wasn't antibush from the start. Like them, I saw through that weenie smirk when he first hit the stage. (I took Noam Chomsky's Intellectual Self-Defense Course.) And what does it matter whether vote tallies are manipulated or not? The fix is in at the top, not the bottom. I will admit, though, that if Julie Delpy showed up at my home and wanted me to come with her to vote, I'd not only go, but I'd vote however she said. We're talking Real Incentive there .

Added: Seeker, explain how not voting contributes to the problem. Please. And just because your vote means something to you, how does that make it count?

bush "probably didn't deserve it" has got to be the understatement of the century.

aaron-- yes, my vote counts, because I'm voting for a philosophy I believe in. It's my own protest and activism rolled into one. And like I said, Bush got elected by a sneaky underhanded move and probably didn't deserve it, but this only happened because the vote was close.

Of course, with computers there's likely a reciept, which may mean nothing. But it's my right and I'm damn well going to do it! Even if I'm just dancing in the dark.

But P.Diddy and the like, do not make me want to vote, but make me want to avoid the whole thing. It makes me think they are counting on the smart people not voting, too.
I don't know exactly what to think, but I believe Not Voting is a valid way to state your conscience too.
