Finished watch the Cooper tape with Palulukon last night. Talked to a friend who repairs computers and he knows someone who can convert the vid cass to DVD. Will hopefully contact this person tomorrow. I don't know how much he will want to charge, but if it is out of our price range can anyone think of an alternative. BTW, has anyone else seen this tape of him in Sedona?

Because when it's fully open to the public, then anyone from snitches to lawyers to copyright-spiders can wander in, see that copyrighted information is being made available to everyone on planet earth, and that would easily justify a removal request or lawsuit. The password can be given to anyone who is trustworthy, so it doesn't deny access to anyone who honestly wants the information, and its "private" nature would make it barely different from one's own private library where books or videos can be lent out.

There are ways to get a particular file out there without password protect - you just sign up anonymously for a free hosting service and post your file. Most of the time it goes undetected. But the more such files you keep in one spot, the sooner someone (most likely entering from a search engine) will get their panties in a bunch and have the hosting company remove the site. That's why an e-library should be password protected.

Users can download or stream content, save it to their computers or burn it, all in the name of dissemination and preservation of information. So in addition to AV, it could include e-books and audio as well. The password-protect feature takes care of any legal issues.

Yeah, I'll discuss the details with Cameron offlist and see if this would be feasable.

Once the DVD is burned, it can be replicated in cheaper ways - for example, converted to RealVideo, Quicktime, DivX, or Windows Media format and burned to a regular CD-R. It will only be playable on a computer, but for quick distribution at minimal cost, it's something to consider. And because it's digital, making copies doesn't degrade the quality. Only hurdle is getting it from VHS to something digital.

If it's burned to Video-CD format, then it can be played on most DVD machines AND computer CDROM drives that don't have DVD capability. Just takes the right software, that's all.
