<![CDATA[Noble Realms — Tank Man]]> 2006-09-02T02:08:48Z PunBB https://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=3926 <![CDATA[Re: Tank Man]]> That's kind of weird actually, because I thought of the Tianaman Square tank man probably within the last week, two weeks at the latest, out of nowhere.  I wonder what's up with that?   I was thinking about how as a kid when I saw that on TV I didn't feel anything - as a kid I didn't have as sensitive empathy as I do now, just felt more detached from things - but NOW....omg.  I was sitting there at work, bored, and through a chain of thoughts I found that indelible image in my mind of the guy standing in front of the tank...and was just like holy shit.  As an adult thinking about that it's like a punch in the gut.  Probably because as an adult I can better understand what communist China is like, (especially since reading up on what's going on over there with regards to Falun Gong, as well as all the baby girl killing) and what that level of oppressive fear can be like to a people, and what it took for him to do that....and the complete lack of inhumanity involved in killing him like that.  As a kid many of us just don't grasp those sorts of things.   I won't be able to watch that video, but I already have that image in my mind, with all the lessons and emotions it invokes, so I don't really have to.  But I do wonder if there's a reason for this popping up in the collective right now as it is....?

It's really worth watching. Both inspiring and soul destroying in equal measure, but I think ultimately it provides a lot of hope. I have to admit that I knew almost nothing about the Tiananmen Square massacre before watching this. I think I was about 13 years old when it happened so I wasn't paying much attention, and I've never really read anything about it since.

It's worth an hour and fifteen minutes of your time.
