I didn't want to feel overwhelmed or overpowered, although what dosage I took worked just fine for that. With an open mind, I learned a lot, even under the sodium vapor lamps and a clear night sky. For example, I learned not to fear extrasensory persception. I also learned that drones from buildings and streetlamps are always humming a very eerie tune... it was so fascinating to me at the time.

'The woods' probably would yield some life-changing experiences, but I was a little more interested in finding that experience in the place most familiar to me. Also, I would definitely dose with more like-minded people, but they are few and far between.

Capitan wrote:

Bill Hicks used to say the reason mushrooms are illegal is because if people did them they would realise this whole reality was fake.

Bill Hicks was one wise dude.

I mentioned really briefly my experience with psilocybin mushrooms to Poffo in #noblerealms. I've actually had two, though.

The first time I took them I ate a half-eigth, as the most I've ever heard anyone take is an eigth of an ounce. I was going to take them with friends, but being in college and all, they wanted to party off campus ("woohoo, college! party!")

So, being all by my lonesome, slowly sliding into a hallucinogenic state, I turned on the nearest frequency control, mind programming device and Shrek 2 happened to be on. Soon, the carpet was breathing, the walls were crawling, and Shrek just did not seem as friendly as I thought. So, my first experience... not so great.

My mistakes were:
1.) I was tripping alone.
2.) I had 'poisonous' mushrooms in my system without any food - you need food for energy and in case if you get sick, you will be able to produce vomit rather than dry heaving over a toilet for an hour
3.) I stayed inside
4.) I panicked and turned to the TV for some kind of relief (what was I thinking...)
5.) I tried to lay down and fall asleep with the lights out - that only made me feel like I was totally crazy and about to die

I can't believe I had the nerve to try them a year later... However, I learned a lot from that bad experience. I was also much more spiritually aware and, like Poffo, I knew ahead of time what I wanted to experience... I clearly set out to experience feeling closer to Spirit.

With a belly full of food and a few friends to make me feel comfortable, I ate a half-eigth rolled into a fruit roll up and when it was time to go outside... I had to announce that I was going on a journey, "who's with me?"

An empty campus at night, staying within lit areas of course, was extremely pleasant. The stars are big bright beacons and the hum of electricity, a drone that one usually ignores in passing, is clearly amplified so that you can discern what areas are filled with invisible activity. My second time on psilocybin mushrooms yeilded the closest waking experience I could only describe as timelessness... or "Whoa guys guys I just traveled in time!" "Far out, man!" "Yeah, far out! COLLEGE!" "COLLEGE!" "PARTY!"

Timelessness, of course, is indescribable!

Now, my friend... less spiritually inclined, subject to the tug of typical illusional reality, said he is 'only really happy' on mushrooms! Poor guy... When you, enlightened to the presence of spirit, go on a 'vision quest,' try to communicate with your friends that what they are experiencing is only a slight adjustment out of the throes of 'reality'. You might get them started on something closer to what we generally know as Awareness, or an "awakening". That would be in their best interest, of course, as ignorance, or naivete, as Montalk elaborated as the opportunity for learning not met, is so common, even among those who do feel as if there is a control system working against their being.

{ed. - linkage}

I can personally verify their findings. The almost permanent synchronicity while using psilocybin mushrooms is almost overwhelming. A lot of people I've talked to have had completely different experiences, some bad, some good, but every time I have done them I've had very spiritual experiences. A friend of mine that was doing at the same time as me was baffled at the experience I was having because I was experiencing things in a way that seemed outside of his. He isn't very spiritually oriented and I think that has a lot of sway in the trip's outcomes. I found it was a good practice to meditate before and to put my spiritual intent out there before I took them. It's unfortunate that so many people take such a casual approach to them as they are very powerful and can help your awareness to expand to a large degree while under their "influence", or can scare the shit out of you and stop any interest in spirituality dead in it's tracks. Definately not something you want to do all the time either, he he.

On the first trip I had one of the most memorable instances of connecting with "god". My friend and I split up from the group and were walking alongside the lakeshore in Toronto. I was going on about the root word "spec" of spectacular, spectacles, perspicacity and just talking about "seeing" in general when I had the urge to look down, and to my surprise and shroomy elation I found a pair of sunglasses and binoculars sitting beside each other on the grass. I was also wearing a t-shirt with the eye of horus symbol on it so the incident was very thematically relevant. At that point in the trip it was amazing yet almost expected and common place because of all the other synchronicities one after the other.

Another trip had a MAJOR serpent theme capped off with a a dead snake on the road (I've only seen a snake one other time in my life outside of a zoo) that didn't look run over but just dead, he he. Mind bullets!

Honestly, infinity doesn't seem like such a hard concept to "feel" or "know" when on the shrooms, there's something to them alright.

P.S. This is not an endorsement, use at own risk (of temporary infinite illuminatory ecstacy). To each his/her own and such.

I'm sure you guys have seen this. Not sure why but looks like they are testing the waters with this reasearch.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story … D=10390814

wrote:

Wednesday July 12, 2006
By Jeremy Laurance

LONDON - A universal mystical experience with life-changing effects can be produced by the hallucinogen contained in magic mushrooms, scientists claimed yesterday.

Forty years after Timothy Leary, the apostle of drug-induced mysticism, urged his 1960s hippie followers to "tune in, turn on, and drop out", researchers at Johns Hopkins University in the US have for the first time demonstrated that mystical experiences can be produced safely in the laboratory.

They say that there is no difference between drug-induced mystical experiences and the spontaneous religious ones that believers have reported for centuries. They are "descriptively identical".

And they argue that the potential of the hallucinogenic drugs, ignored for decades because of their links with illicit drug use in the 1960s, must be explored to develop new treatments for depression, drug addiction and the treatment of intolerable pain.

Anticipating criticism from church leaders, they say they are not interested in the "Does God exist?" debate. "This work can't and won't go there."

Interest in the therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs is growing around the world. In the UK, the Royal College of Psychiatrists debated their use at a conference in March for the first time for 30 years. A conference held in Basel, Switzerland, last January, reviewed the growing psychedelic psychiatry movement.

The drug psilocybin is the active ingredient of magic mushrooms, which grow wild in Wales and were openly sold in London markets until a change in the law last year.

For the Johns Hopkins study, 30 middle-aged volunteers who had religious or spiritual interests attended two eight-hour drug sessions, two months apart, receiving psilocybin in one session and a non-hallucinogenic stimulant - Ritalin - in the other. They were not told which drug was which.

One-third described the experience with psilocybin as the most spiritually significant of their lifetime and two-thirds rated it among their five most meaningful experiences.

In more than 60 per cent of cases the experience qualified as a "full mystical experience" based on established psychological scales, the researchers say. Some likened it to the importance of the birth of their first child or the death of a parent.

The effects lasted for at least two months. Eight out of 10 of the volunteers reported moderately or greatly increased wellbeing or life satisfaction. Relatives, friends and colleagues confirmed the changes.

The study is one of the first in the new discipline of "neurotheology" -the neurology of religious experience. The researchers, who report their findings in the online journal Psychopharmacology, say that, though unorthodox, their aim is to explore the possible benefits of drugs like psilocybin.

Professor Roland Griffiths, of the department of neuroscience and psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, said: "As a reaction to the excesses of the 1960s, human research with hallucinogens has been basically frozen in time. I had a healthy scepticism going into this. [But] under defined conditions, with careful preparation, you can safely and fairly reliably occasion what's called a primary mystical experience that may lead to positive changes in a person.

"It is an early step in what we hope will be a large body of scientific work that will ultimately help people."

A third of the volunteers became frightened during the drug sessions with some reporting feelings of paranoia.

The researchers say psilocybin is not toxic or addictive, unlike alcohol and cocaine, but that volunteers must be accompanied throughout the experience by people who can help them through it.

The study is hailed as a landmark by former director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Charles Schuster, in a commentary published alongside the research.

In a second commentary, Huston Smith, America's leading authority on comparative religion, writes that mystical experience "is as old as humankind" and attempts to induce it using psychoactive plants were made in some ancient cultures, such as classical Greece, and in some contemporary small-scale cultures.

"But this is the first scientific demonstration in 40 years, and the most rigorous ever, that profound mystical states can be produced safely in the laboratory. The potential is great."

- INDEPENDENT

Bill Hicks used to say the reason mushrooms are illegal is because if people did them they would realise this whole reality was fake. TPTB couldn't allow that. Wonder why they're letting this info out now??
