Good luck, lyra. Mum buys this junky woman gossip magazine, it just looks so tempting. I feel reading it would fill my head with silly ideas and pictures, so I do my best to not even look at it sitting so innocuously on the coffee table. But sooner or later I cave and start reading it. It's crape of course, but it is addictive crape.

I do not use a watch anymore because mine broke...
But to cook any type of food, I need a chronograph or it will burn... LoL

Oh yeah...I haven't worn a watch since I was about 20 maybe? 11 years now. I used to wear one only because my parents got me started on it as a kid, always giving me watches for birthday presents. They were considered an accessory, as well as a "necessity" I guess. But then at 20, 21, I began to become very aware and conscious of what things about "me" were really stuff my parents created or molded me into. Dropped the watches, pronto. I don't need one anyway, I have an internal clock that's pretty amazing, when needed. I first discovered my internal clock when I was 15, when I was able to "guess" the time to the minute. Don't know how that works. I can either guess the time to the minute, or at least estimate really well, like if I'm out on my lunch break at work.

Well no worries, nobody here is judging your progress! Everybody has to do what's rigtht for them. Most of us will never be 100% media free. But I'm aiming for 99%! haha I'll still watch movies too here and there. Won't be completely militant about it.

Okay, Ive been bad. I cant resist watching *Ghost Hunters* on wed. nights. I did stop wearing a watch about 5 months ago, and found out that I didnt miss it at all. I dont watch NBC nightly lies anymore, when my husband turns it on, I leave the room or go outside in the garden. My daughter does conjole me into watching a movie with her now and then. Im trying guys!

I can't resist checking Rense and Slashdot on a daily basis. Otherwise I'm 100% media-free as well. It's a good way to be. It reminds me of that scene in Crocodile Dundee where the old guy says something like "See you on Wednesday, Mick" and Dundee replies "Sounds good ... Hey Wal? What day is it today?" I've been living like that for awhile and it's a good way to be. Of course I haven't had a "normal" job either. That will be changing soon, so unfortunately I may be back using the clock and calendar again for awhile. So the trick will be to keep as much of the remaining time free for constructive uses, and so "resisting the click" makes a lot of sense.

Okay....Day 9 of resisting the click!

You know what it's like....it's like a spaceship pulling away from a planet's gravitational field. But once you clear it, it's easy. But that's how it felt. For the first week I kept itching, out of habit, to type in old standby URL's after I'd check my email. Would keep having the thought...come on, just type it in really quick, take a quick look at the headlines, that's all, you don't even have to read the stories!

NOPE!

Eventually the urge goes away once you realize that you intend to have willpower and stick with it. "I will not type in those URL's! Won't won't won't!!" haha It's all habit though. Doing it just because there's time to kill...so why not, you know?....just do it....do it....do it.....

My head does feel clearer, maybe it's my imagination, but I don't feel like I have all this "stuff" jumbling up my brain. The mind feels calmer, less internal dialogue. Coincidentally I've felt so incredibly positive too this week, high energy and good. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but it's definitely a coincidence.

Well, our players are not in the best physical/mind condition, but
from the little I saw looks like they got a good flexible tactical
attack that will give a lot of troubles to the adversaries.

Well cool! Congratulations! Even if we're not consciously paying attention to something, the words and ideas are still seeping into the subconscious...taking insidious root into our brains.....mmmwaaahahahahahaha! So it's probably good to not even "watch" the news in that way either.

Oh yeah....and we did watch a movie over the weekend. So I wasn't COMPLETELY entertainment free. Don't want to be all like, militant about it. haha The $3 discount theater was showing the movie "Stay", one of those illusory reality/mind bender movies where one doesn't know WHAT'S really going on til the very end. It's available on DVD though for those who are interested in seeing it. (The discount theater is 6 months to a year behind, but on purpose...it's why they charge $3, hehe It's the whole point of the theater...) I added a write up on this movie to my "Meaningful Movies/Mind Control Symbolisms" section on my website, because it had so many going on it was worth a mention. So, I'll still occasionally do those types of good movies. I don't want to eliminate that just yet.

Admittedly for me, I still have entertainment fluff in my peripheral awareness. It's only been just barely a week, so, it hasn't completely gone away. I'm curious to see what happens after each passing week, if even the awareness of it can fade. I want to be so out of the loop that I wouldn't know what's going on with anything....other than what I have deamed meaningful for my own personal life. We'll see!

Lyra, since you've started this thread, I realized how many times I turn on TV and look at news without being aware of it - with some other thoughts in my mind about work or the books I read lately.

I do not normally watch TV except some sports and some series I like (eg. The X-files, Carnivale). But I realised I spare more time to orchestrated news than I thought before.

So yes, I join the resistance!

PS: eee, does World Cup news count?

....A while ago, I saw in the Mirror-World how bent the game is and how a very famous footballer had been paid a vast sum to throw a World Cup final. Maybe he’ll come out with the dirty laundry in this sting, ’should be good. Some really big names are going to get their finger cracked as the tray of the cash register slams shut, others may do time in the slammer before this thing pans out to the final whistle - fun, fun, fun.

He has hopes that the game will get cleaned up and back on track, but I don't know if any major sport with big $$$ involved could ever be honest. That's why it's probably best to not watch it and fall for it. It's not real, at least, not in the way that the fans think it is, where the outcome is truly "open" and anybody can truly win. The fans watch it for those two reasons. When TPTB remove those two aspects of the game, then what's left? A fictional game. Something that may as well have been scripted for a movie, or TV show. It becomes not real...like so many aspects of this reality.

Anyway.....going into Week 2 of "resisting the click." Did good last week.....didn't read the news, didn't click on any entertainment stories, didn't visit any news/entertainment websites.

We could be in the middle of WWIII right now and I wouldn't know!

I have to admit though, I did one small cheat. I saw the People magazine at the newstand showing Angelina and Brad's baby pictures.

I was in a line. I was bored.

I looked.

I didn't resist the flip. oh well. hehe Other than that, doing good. I figured it would take a week to feel the effects of no news and silly entertainment fluff, and there is a difference already. Bringing books to work is the key!

Hehe. I've come to realize that sports on T.V. aren't even worth watching. I've LOVED hockey since I was a kid, I've always watched it. But not these playoffs! With the referring, consumer promotions, player salaries and "owners" then game has become.. I dunno "weird". This year they even called it the "new NHL". Well you know what.. I fell in love with hockey not because of the NHL, but because I would play it with my friends for hours on the streets in our neighbourhood.

I'd like to quote Tool's new song, which is their only single off the new album, which deals with the topic we're discussing, although relating to the more negative aspect of the news (war, muder, etc...)

I love the fact that they put this song out as their single, and it's played in the media so people can hear it. And they have a point, everything that is happening in the world (wars, dis-ease's, major "natural" disasters) are all happening because we are letting it happen (as a whole) and we're probably letting this happen because we a "drawn" to this state.

How many people will watch the news tonight on a war? A murder? Car accident? People dying?

It's unbelievable. But is this what it will take for us to "wake up"??

And I'd just like to congratulate everyone here that has either thrown away their T.V. or has reduced it's usage! I think it makes a BIG difference!
