During the 1967 epidemic of foot and mouth disease, homeopathic borax, obtainable from Ainsworths in Cavendish Street, London W1, was used to great effect on every farm that used it. A couple of drops in the drinking water resulted in those farms not losing a single animal.

Our local homeopathic veterinary surgeon advises that borax is indeed effective and that although animals so treated may still become infectious and carry the virus for about three days, they show no symptoms and rapidly recover completely.

Wholesale slaughter of animals would thus be unnecessary. There would be enormous reductions in animal misery, financial cost and destruction of valuable breeding lines.

The principle argument deployed by MAFF against the use of borax apparently is that its officials don't believe in homeopathic remedies, and only the slaughter of infected and suspect stock can hope to convince foreign importers that British meat is safe.

John Gouriet, Bicknoller, Somerset

http://homeoint.org/books3/kentmm/borax.htm

LECTURES ON HOMŒOPATHIC MATERIA MEDICA
by JAMES TYLER KENT, A.M., M.D.
Late Professor of Materia Medica in Hering College, Chicago.
Presented by Dr Robert Séror

Borax

Borax is one of those domestic remedies that has been long used for local conditions as a soothing substance and for a healing purpose.

In "nursing sore mouth" of mother or child Borax has been used in the families of old, in the form of Borax and honey, as a wash.

The extensive use that has been made of it would make the homoeopath wonder if the people had not hit upon something, and it is a fact that Borax will rapidly heal up a sore mouth.

It is not strange that it does so, for Borax, in its proving, produces aphthous conditions of the mouth, which extend to the throat and even into the stomach. It cures where the genitalia and anus are covered with these aphthous appearances.

Mind: Anxiety, fidgetiness, and sensitiveness are prominent in Borax. He is anxious about trifles. He starts at every noise, on hearing unexpected news, from music, from excitement.

This anxiety or nervousness, this indescribable feeling that is within him, is aggravated from upward or downward motion.

Such a motion as going up in one-of our elevators nearly drives him to distraction, but he is made worse going down. All complaints are aggravated from downward motion.

It has been said in routine practice, that in all cases of sore mouth in children, when the child is worse from downward motion, Borax is the remedy.

When the mother is in the act of laying the child down on the bed it often rouses up in its sleep and cries out in fright. The anxiety may be better appreciated if you will go to the top of one of these high buildings and go down in the elevator.

It is natural for every one to feel, with the rapid motion, an anxious feeling in the Stomach, a sensation of falling; that is natural to the healthy man, but if you exaggerate that intensely you have the Borax condition in which the slightest downward motion, of even riding down hill or walking down stairs, or, in the child, when being carried down stairs in the mother's arms, produces a violent aggravation. All the nerves are in a fret.

We notice that Borax has an intensified activity throughout the body; all of his senses are made more acute.

His hearing is intensified, he is oversensitive to his surroundings, over-anxious. He has an excitable spirit throughout. Riding down hill produces vertigo.

On nervous excitement, fear and apprehension. This is a strong feature of Borax. It has many such symptoms, but the nervous elements, partake of this type.

As we go through the remedy many other things will be called out; but this may be said to be the principal feature of the mental state, and it is to a great extent the key to Borax cases.

"Anxious feeling during downward motion or rocking."

The diarrhoea will be cured when that state is present. Aphthae will be cured when that state is present. The rheumatism, menstrual troubles and numerous other complaints will disappear upon the administration of Borax, when this key is present.

It has hysterical manifestations.

"Changes from one work to another."

It has a restless, nervous, anxious, excitable state that runs through his body. The child screeches and screams when it is dandled and tossed up and down.

The motion of the brain, the upward and downward motion, as in swinging, rocking, etc., makes the patient lose himself, he hardly knows where he is; confusion and vertigo come over him. If one rocks the child, it has an anxious expression of face.

"Very anxious on riding rapidly down hill."

"Anxiety increased until 11 P.M."

That I have noticed in Borax as a peculiar time of aggravation of the anxiety. I have noticed it in women who had periods of insanity, whose nervous trouble and mental state would keep up until 11 P.M. You will notice sometimes in insane people that it seems as if they were possessed of the devil; and at once a lucid interval will come and they will talk just as if nothing had happened.

So it is in Borax that a great change may occur at 11 P.M.; this state of anxiety and nervous excitement may stop at that hour.

"Fretful, ill-humored, indolent" state increased until there is a stool and relieved by stool.

"He starts on hearing an anxious cry;" on hearing an unexpected noise, on bearing something drop from a chair to the floor, or if a door opens unexpectedly.

This is all in keeping with the nature of Borax. If you compare Borax with other Natrums you will find an astonishing likeness in the nervous excitability; Natrum carb. and Natrum mur.

Aggravation from noise, oversensitiveness to noise and overexcitement of the nerves run through all the Sodium family. They are wonderfully intense people.

"While engaged in thinking at his work, strong nausea."

Borax has many times cured this kind of trouble. I have seen it come up in this way; from any sort of meditation he becomes nauseated and excitable and must leave his work and rest a little while, and then he goes at it again until be becomes sick at the stomach and so must rest again.

With the aggravation from mental exertion, from noise, from excitement, from downward motion, we get the mental aspect of Borax.

A further examination of the sensorium shows:

"Vertigo and fullness in head on descending a mountain or stairs."

This is a form of the same anxious feeling. This remedy has a good deal of vertigo, sometimes constant vertigo, which is made so intense on downward motion that be must sit still, and do nothing.

It has many congestive headaches, pressive headaches and much beat in the head.

Eyes: There are many eye symptoms.

"Granular lids."

"Lashes turn inward towards eye and inflame it. Entropion."

Granulation and thickening of the mucous membrane of the lid; contractions and scars and drawing inward.

"Lower lids entirely inverted."

"Difficult opening of lids"

Nose: Like all the salts of Sodium the nose suffers from chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane, a catarrhal state, with copious discharge, and crusts in the nose; stoppage of the nose. The whole Natrum family has these dry crusts in the nose, and copious discharges from the nose.

Natrum mur. predominantly produces white discharge, and so does Borax; Natr. sulph. produces yellow discharge, and so does Borax; Natr. sulph. produces yellow discharge from the nose, even yellowish-green.

Borax is laid down as producing greenish discharge; its characteristic discharge, which is a general of the remedy, is a white discharge.

Face: The face of the infant is pale, and clay-colored.

"Children have small vesicles around the mouth, and on the forehead."

Natr. mur. produces herpetic eruptions around the mouth in all of its febrile states, and when the patient takes cold. Borax is sometimes forgotten, and Natr. mur. is thought of because it is better known.

When the Natrum constitution is present, then it becomes a process of individualization to determine which one of the Natrums is indicated.

"Aphthae in mouth and on tongue."

"Aphthae on tongue and inside of cheek."

This alone is not an indication for Borax, although Borax is one among many medicines when the mouth is so sore that the child lets loose its hold of the nipple or bottle. Many prescribers give Borax on that indication alone; but the constitutional state ought to be hunted up, so that there may be constitutional foundation for the remedy.

Sulph. ac. is more frequently indicated.

"Red blisters on tongue."

"Vomiting after drinking."

This leads one to expect that this aphthous state has traveled down the oesophagus into the stomach. There are many stomach symptoms present that are likely to be the result of some such condition.

"Buccal mucous membrane highly reddened."

The sore mouth, such as mothers have and such as infants have, can be cured with Borax.

"After every meal flatulent distension."

"Constant vomiting."

"Vomiting of sour slime."

The Borax patient with stomach aphthae will gag and retch and cough, and that is what is called a "stomach cough."

Mothers say,

"It is a stomach cough," because the child gags and retches with it.

"Stomach cough with pain extending into region of spleen."

Anus and stools: Little ones often get summer complaints when they need Borax. All around about the anus you will see the aphthous appearances. Great slimy stools are passed day and night; the child keeps up a pitiful crying; the mouth is aphthous, child is emaciating, and holds its head back.

"Stools; frequent, soft, light yellow, slimy."

Quantities of fluid like boiled starch are emitted from the anus; Borax has that as well as Argentum nitricum.

There are also conditions of the rectum producing thickening of the mucous membrane, with stricture, growing, smaller and smaller until finally a long thin stool is passed, no larger than a pencil. This inflammatory stricture has been cured by Borax.

Urines: In this over-sensitive child when the catarrhal state is general the urine burns so when it passes that with the first urging (which causes the child to realize it must soon urinate) it screams out; screams with the desire to urinate.

That is what it means when it says

"Worse before urination."

it is not that the state of the urinary organs is worse before urinating, but the child in realizing that it must urinate screeches and screams.

"Frequent urination preceded by cries."

The urine burns and you may know that the child must soon urinate because it commences to cry.

"Orifice of urethra pains as if sore, after urinating."

"Desire to urinate without being able to pass a drop."

This remedy has cured gonorrhoea. Wherever there is mucous membrane you may expect to find the aphthous patches. There is another feature like Natr. mur. and Natr. Carb.; in both male and female it takes away sexual desire; it benumbs the patient, and hence the mind and sexual organs are in a state of indifference.

Females, mothers and children: Then we come to the most striking feature of Borax in regard to the female sexual organs; in the menstrual flow will be found membrane.

Borax cures the most violent forms of membranous dysmenorrhoea, when there are violent labor-like pains before and during the flow and it seems as if the uterus would expel itself from the vagina.

The flow starts slightly, but the same violent pains keep on, until the expulsion of the membrane. I have known Borax to cure when the membrane was a cast of the uterus. Such patients are easily startled from downward motion; let that be your guide to Borax in membranous dysmenorrhoea.

She dreads downward motion, and motions like swinging and rocking.

"During menses; throbbing in head and rushing in ears."

"Pinching and griping in abdomen;"

that word does not describe it exactly, for it is like the pain in labor;

"pain extending from stomach."

Pain like the stabbing of a knife in the groin, and that may occur either before or during menstruation.

"Tired; sweat after midnight."

But, remember, with such things you must have the mental state, the nervous, ex citable state and then Borax will cure this dysmenorrhoea.

Another grand feature of Borax I read in the next sentence.

"Leucorrhoea like the white of eggs."

It has albuminous leucorrhoea which feels like a hot fluid, and flows down the legs.

"White albuminous or starchy leucorrhoea."

"Acrid leucorrhoea appearing for two weeks."

"Leucorrhoea white as mucus, without any other ailment."

Now from this acrid leucorrhoea, from the menstrual state, this false membrane forming and being thrown off, it is no wonder that women are sterile.

All these women are sterile, all who have such symptoms are sterile and Borax has cured sterility when this condition was the cause. You will find routinists prescribe Borax for all women who are sterile, regardless of the state. When a remedy is given for sterility, the state must be looked into which is peculiar to the remedy given such a state as that remedy can produce upon the healthy woman.

Another feature. Many times I have used Borax when the mother could not nurse the child; she talks about always having a little, thick milk.

"The milk is too thick and tastes badly."

This condition of the milk prevents the mother from nursing her child. This is a constitutional state, and Borax, if given in the beginning of pregnancy, to a Borax patient will so change the milk as well as the rest of the constitution that the mother will be able to nurse the child.

I have a number of times, when a mother has brought forth several children that she was unable to nurse, given Borax and it has so affected the case that she could nurse the next child. This remedy also has loathing of the breast in infants, due to the fact that the milk tastes bad and not due to any defect on the part of the child.

You might think of prescribing for the infant, but if you examine into the case you will find that the child will not take the milk, because it is loathsome. The mother needs a dose of Borax, which will cure the child of its diarrhoea and loathing of milk.

"The infant becomes pale, nearly earth-colored."

"The child throws up its hands when an attempt is made to put it down."

If the mother was a Borax mother, the child very likely is a Borax child; it is not an uncommon thing for the mother and baby to need the same remedy; many times I have medicated the child through the mother's milk if both needed the same remedy.

Another peculiar feature is that when the child is nursing, there is pain in the opposite breast. Borax is not necessarily limited to the state of confinement; there is a practical use for Borax among nervous women in all states of life.

Borax has cured pleurisy that very much resembled Bryonia, especially on the right side like Bryonia; stitching or darting pains from without inward as if through the upper right lung posteriorly

the stitching pains might make you think of Bryonia.

"Wilted, wrinkled skin."

"Skin pale or livid."

Emaciated; flabby child becomes emaciated. Children become marasmic along with the aphthous condition; they cannot digest. They vomit or have diarrhoea; aphthous condition that extends the whole length of the intestines; involving all mucous membranes. Oversensitive child, screams from downward motion. The aphthae involve a good many other symptoms; crying before urination, because the bladder is involved.

The aphthous condition and worse from downward motion; the oversensitiveness to noise, easily startled, anxious feeding, etc., are the most striking and characterizing features.

My first symptoms appeared shortly after I began taking Paxil. After about 8 months when I found the Paxil side effects intolerable, my doctor switched me to Prozac. Well...within 2 years, I had gained 75 pound, couldn't get my temperature to a normal 98.6 (it wouldn't budge above 96.6), broke out with a fierce case of Rosacea (skin blistering & pealing in layers off my cheeks), was chronically fatigued and suffered from TMJ symptoms.

After reading the FLUORIDE information on EarthClinc and researching the chemical formulas of the many antidepressants that I had taken over the last 10 years, I had an epiphany...My problem was FLUORIDE!!! Incidentally, the symptoms of FLUORIDE TOXICITY are the same as Fibromyalgia so it wasn't surprising to learn that FLUORIDE is the primary ingredient in MANY widely prescribed antidepressants, including PAXIL and PROZAC!!!

Without delay, I began adding 1/8 tsp of BORAX and 1/8 tsp of NATURAL (UN-bleached) SEA SALT to a liter of
DE-CLORINATED water. This regimine just happens to both neutralize the FLUORIDE and KILL the nasty mites that cause Rosacea.

I began drinking 1 liter per day for 5 days. On the 2 off days, I simply drank purified, bottled spring water.

The results were nothing short of MIRACULOUS, within two weeks my face cleared, the redness faded and best of all, my temperature normalized TO 98.6 and my energy level began to steadily increased. (Do expect the break out to get worse before it gets better as the mites die off.)

In just one month, without dieting or changing my daily routine (other than adding BORAX & SEA SALT to my drinking water), I dropped 4 pounds and I continue to drop weight at about a pound a week. I attribute this to my increased body temperature and elevated metabolism.

ALSO...when I eliminated the FLUORIDE in my toothpaste, my gums stopped swelling and bleeding and all PREVIOUS phantom tooth/jaw pain simply disappeared.

Thank you, EarthClinc and Ted...The information you shared has truely been a blessing in my life...I wholeheartedly encourage anyone that is suffering with FIBROMYALGIA, CHRONIC FATIGUE, TMJ or ROSACEA to try this simple remedy as I have had only POSITIVE results and absolutely NO SIDE EFFECTS!!!

Incidently, this BORAX & SEA SALT water is extremely ALKALINE with a pH between 8 - 9 pH."

EC: We must also express our extreme gratitude to Jason Uttley for the chronic fluoride poisoning link in his article, The Cause of Fibromyalgia.

9/6/2007: katya from grand rapids, mi writes: "WOW! I gave it a try and my hair felt great. I have long, heavy hair and it felt clean, soft and not dried out at all. Is anyone else doing this? I'm curious to see if anyone else had done this long-term as I want to make sure I'm not going to destroy my color-treated hair in the long run. I found a shampoo recipe online last week that included borax, castille soap, glycerin and a couple other ingredients. It turned out to be a disaster - after using a second time, my hair was a matted mess. I'm thinking it was the Dr. Bronner castille soap - which I love for face cleansing, but not on my hair. I used the straight borax and water this morning and my hair feels soft and clean again."

8/12/2007: Jackie from Grand Rapids, Minn. writes: "Hi, i'm using many of Ted's wonderful remedies. The latest is borax for a shampoo. I was scared at first, thought my hair would be a matted, tangled, dried out mess. Well it works better than any shampoo i've tried, and my stick straight thin hair has new thickness and body. So much so, that i was able to get a chin length haircut with bangs which i didn't dare do before. I don't know if i'm right but i use 2 tbsp borax to 2 qts. warm water and pour it over my head about 3 times then massage my scalp then rinse. i almost forgot to mention i don't need a conditioner or detangling rinse. This makes me really happy because i'm trying to reduce or eliminate chemicals on my skin and body.I use borax water to dampen my hair before a hairset too. I have very light gray hair and i'm trying blackstrap molasses everyday to see if i can get some darker hair back. several people who don't know i'm doing this have said my hair looks darker gray, it definetly is darkening at the hairline on the sides and on the nckline after a short time, so i'm hopeful, but just to be able to have body and thickness to my hair is just thrilling no matter what color it is. I think borax medicine is one of the medicines most ignored, misinformed or even suppressed in our present society. The authorities have done it so well that very few know that the toxicity of borax is about equal to that of simple table salt.

I have seen almost daily, people dying of pneumonia (James Brown died a couple of days ago), a Thai actor got his brains eaten by a plasmodium, for example. The possible cure is relatively simple: borax. Every time I see people dying, borax always come to mind, and you probably see why. Even health experts such as Dr. Batmanhelidj (Your Body Cries for Water) got pneumonia, as so did Bob Hope and Buddy Ebsen (Beverly HillBilly). I think pneumonia kills just as many people, it's just that cancer and heart disease take greater billboard area. Because of the way the medical system is structured, heart disease and cancer is more profitable, and a simple magnesium and pH may have helped both problems in prevention and possibly cure (I have seen this on many occasions) for a lot less cost.

Below is one of the many interesting articles concerning borax, which mentions the use of borax against fungus, a well known fact amongst microbiologists but totally unknown to the public.

The second article mentions about the use of borax against the dreaded an incurable plasmodium related organism, a common parasites in human. Never mind about its own effectiveness when combined with hydrogen peroxide in the use of dog mange! Ted"

PIONEER MAGAZINE
Borax Versus Killer Fungus
January 1994

Conifer forests are threatened all over the northern hemisphere by the tiny, ubiquitous spores of a naturally occurring fungus called Heterobasidion annosum. This disease, better known as Fomes, has reached epidemic proportions in Scandinavia, and is a growing menace in the managed forests of Canada, United States, Britain, and Russia. Fomes rots the roots and heartwood of growing trees. It could be called the acid rain of the fungus world.

Supporting the UK's Forestry Commission, Borax Group scientists Kieran Quill and Jeff Lloyd are fighting back against Fomes, and discovering how to do so with maximum effectiveness and economy. Their principal weapons are Tim-bor (disodium octaborate tetrahydrate) and the analytical capacity of the Borax Research laboratories.

Fomes cannot live freely in soil nor can it infect live trees except through root contact or wounds. Its spores however can colonize freshly cut stumps - both the "thinnings" which are essential as forests mature and the stumps left when the crop is finally felled.

The spores are produced by hoof-shaped fruiting bodies near ground level at a daily rate of about six million per square centimeter. Because these spores can be dispersed over distances of at least 300 miles, Fomes can be considered ubiquitous in most managed forests. Once established the fungus can remain viable in a stump for decades, posing a continuous threat to any conifer growing or planted near it. Fomes can survive both extreme cold and extreme heat.

But how are healthy trees infected? Fomes spores germinate on the stump surface, whence the fungus gradually colonizes the root system of the felled tree. From there it enters the root systems of living trees that are in contact with the stump's roots, causing both roots and heartwood to decay, eventually killing the tree.

The fungus is almost impossible to eradicate, except by the removal of all stumps soon after felling - an expensive and rarely practicable option. However, germination of spores on the surface of stumps can be stopped by chemical and biological agents. In the past, this has been carried out manually by the tree feller, but now with increasing mechanization, the requirements have changed. Today a material is needed that can be sprayed automatically onto the stump while the harvesting machine is actually severing the tree. The material must give value for money, be easy to obtain, have low mammalian toxicity, be non-corrosive and environmentally benign.

Among several fungicides tested, borates have consistently given good control. Tim-bor (known as Tim-Bor® in North America) and borax are the only chemicals to have EPA approval for the control of Fomes in the U.S. However materials that are effective over large areas of North America may behave differently in northern Europe where rainfall, climatic conditions and forest management techniques could result in a completely different set of disease and control characteristics. In the light of this, the UK Forestry Commission and the Borax Group have carried out trials in Scotland with the object of determining borate efficacy. What is the threshold at which Tim-bor becomes toxic to the fungus? How little will do the trick?

Undiseased Sitka spruce near Peebles, Scotland were felled and their stumps were treated with Tim-bor at four percent, two percent, one percent, 0.5 percent, or with water. Twenty-four hours later Fomes was applied dropwise by hypodermic syringe.

The stumps were left to mature for a year, during which time samples of wood were regularly extracted with a core borer for borate analysis. At the end of a year, the amount of stump colonized by Fomes was measured on a one inch thick disc cut from a standard depth. Each disc was incubated at 10ºC to 15ºC for ten days.

During incubation, fruiting structures of the fungus emerge from infected wood. These can be seen quite easily under a dissecting microscope, and allow any diseased zones of the stump to be mapped. A comparison of the measured diseased areas on the sample discs provides a means of judging the success of a particular treatment.

All analytical work for the project was carried out at the Borax Research laboratories in Chessington (UK).

The results from this experiment indicate that at a borate concentration of around four percent, the mean area of infected heartwood was reduced from 22 percent to less than 0.5 percent. This represented less than one square centimeter, an insignificant inoculum. However, at concentrations of two percent and below, no significant control occurred. In an earlier experiment it was found that a concentration of five percent totally prevented infection. So a working concentration of four to five percent of Tim-bor is indicated for full disease control.

As a result of this research, Tim-bor is being assessed for full commercial application by the UK Forestry Commission, and has aroused widespread interest across Europe."

-------

PIONEER MAGAZINE

Of Cabbages And Things
February 1999

Plasmodiophora brassicae are nasty little beasts of uncertain origins. They may relate to the protozoa, single celled organisms which are neither plants nor animals, and are only a few thousandths of a millimeter wide and long. Most of their relatives in this microscopic world are harmless, but some distant cousins are Plasmodium species, which cause malaria in humans and Amoeba species which cause dysentery. Plasmodiophora brassicae's parasitic way of life is to attack vegetables of the brassica family, causing the debilitating clubroot disease. Now, evidence is emerging that boron might play an important part in keeping its effects in check.

Crops of the brassica family are of enormous worldwide importance. Arguably they are second only to cereals in their contribution to human diet and welfare. They range from the cabbages, cauliflowers, calabrese and brussels sprouts familiar in the western world, to a wide array of leafy and root vegetables widespread in India, China and Japan. The Chinese cabbage, for example, is one of the most important foodstuffs of the Orient. Much of the world supply of vegetable oil comes from rape and mustard seed, while swedes (rutabagas) and turnips are important animal fodder crops in Europe and North America.

There wouldn't be much of a problem hosting a parasite like Plasmodiophora if it didn't have such rampant and dire side effects. In clubroot disease, the plant roots are distorted by massive galls, which inhibit water and nutrient uptake. The grossly deformed roots sap carbohydrates from the leaves and deprive developing flowers. The foliage turns bluish-green, then yellow and then wilts: the plant is past the point of no return and nothing can restore it to health.

Not surprisingly, this is responsible for drastic crop losses and poor quality. It is also virtually impossible, certainly in intensively-farmed regimes, to eradicate the parasite from the soil in which it spends much of its lifecycle.

When Plasmodiophora spores germinate in the soil, the tiny organisms swim around and as soon as they meet a root hair they attach and inject their own cell contents into the root. The genetic material multiplies inside the plant, and it is believed that this presence upsets the host hormone metabolism and leads to uncontrolled cell growth - almost a plant cancer. Once established and now mature, the parasites release billions of new spores back into the soil. It is a very robust lifecycle which is almost impossible to break.

There are clues too that Plasmodiophora may incorporate DNA from the host - perhaps a reason why biological control methods or genetically- induced protection methods have not yet been found. The traditional ways of controlling Plasmodiophora, either heavy liming (that is, adding quantities of calcium), alternative crop rotations or better soil drainage, similarly have only limited effect.

This is where boron comes in. The element is an essential plant nutrient, and it is well known that boron-healthy plants are better able to resist disease-causing organisms. In the case of brassicas, the important thing is to give the plant a head start, and certainly enough boron to begin with can help it resist clubroot.

But this doesn't fully explain why crops which enjoy good boron availability seem to be able to resist clubroot significantly better. Researchers, led by Professor Geoffrey Dixon of the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, UK have been looking into this puzzle.

They started out with three possible ideas. Does boron somehow reduce the potency of the clubroot invader directly in the soil? Might it encourage the growth and activity of soil microbes which then prey on the Plasmodiophora before they attack? Or does it actually fight the invasion or its effects within the plant itself?

The team now suspects it is actually the latter. For boron, which contributes so much for so little to plant metabolism, seems not to do the same for the parasitic protozoan. Indeed it works in the opposite way and actually slows down the lifecycle.

What boron and, less strongly, calcium (from heavy liming) seem to do is to reduce the rate at which the invaders mature inside the root and turn into secondary sporangiophores - the ones that cause the damage - whose mission is to release new generations into the outside subterranean world. Boron apparently doesn't stop the initial invasion, but puts the harmful metamorphosis into slow motion.

Whether boron is altering the biochemical environment inside the root to make it Plasmodiophora-unfriendly, or is encouraging the plant to retaliate is not yet clear. But the effect is the same. Brassicas are given more, and often enough time to mature and establish effective roots before clubroot tumors wreak their damage.

A 15-year long series of experiments conducted by the Strathclyde team has convincingly demonstrated that a specific application of boron to the seedlings at transplanting does indeed reduce the onset of clubroot symptoms and hence protects crop yields to a significant degree.

Species by species, brassicas vary in their susceptibility to boron deficiency, but generally they are rated as vulnerable to low boron levels for general growth and health: boron supplementation is, then, important anyway.

But the new message for growers is that, in the right amount and at the right time, it keeps clubroot in check.

READER Q&A

READER QUESTION
9/12/2007: Neo from Sayreville, NJ, USA writes: "Please post this question on the site. It is quite possible to reduce that further such as using the same amount in even 5 liters of water, which amounts to 1/(8 x 5) = 1/40 of a teaspoon, assuming an average person drinks 5 liters of water in a day.

Much of the toxicity therefore is due to the concentration of the materials, more than anything else. If a single salt is dissolved in a large swimming pool of water, such saltiness can't even be detected. I can't even detect salty water (assuming the water is not contaminated) if 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt was added to one liter of water).

As to the potassium problem there are ways to get around that by drinking some electrolyte drinks or Rehydration Salts, which do have some potassium. Potassium is not needed in as much if we compare that against the sodium. Most cells tend to bathed more in extracellular fluids where sodium usually predominates over potassium. Also most fruits are also high in potassium just the same.

Ted"

READER QUESTION
8/2/2007: Brian writes, "Ted, I have been having bad reflux for about 3 months. Pylori and others, but the key to killing them is alkalizing the body first and once the body fluids achieve normal parameters, they will eventually die off itself.

One additional tip that may kill certain agressive bacterium, is the Milk of Magnesia (but without the aluminum please!) At only 1/4 teaspoon mixed in 1/2 glass of water but taken at a course slowly such as divide out the dose in 1/4 taken 30 minutes apart. Those are quite efficient in killing many pathogens that might be causing some other acid reflux and irritations.

Borax is used against mycobacterium, so it might have limited capabilities against the H. pylori, but its alkalizing factor might be helpful more. It is essential for plant growth. Recently it has been shown to be essential in an animal species (zebra fish), and evidence is mounting that boron is probably essential for humans, as well. The first edition of The Merck Manual (1899) credits boric acid, the most common form of boron, with being a useful treatment for amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, epilepsy and elevated uric acid. Boric acid has, in fact, proved to be ineffective for all of those disorders, but recent research supports the use of boron for the promotion of bone and joint health. There is less evidence that it may be helpful in enhancing mental cognition.

ADVERSE REACTIONS Doses up to 18 mg of boron daily appear to be safe for adults even if taken for prolonged periods of time. There is no evidence that boron is either carcinogenic or mutagenic. No adverse effects have been observed in either premenopausal or postmenopausal women using boron supplements.

OVERDOSAGE The lowest levels at which boron supplementation may be toxic have not been established. In 1904, human volunteers consuming greater than 500 mg of boric acid daily (this is equivalent to about 180 mg of elemental boron) showed symptoms of poor appetite and digestive problems. Symptoms of acute toxicity typically include nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The symptoms of chronic toxicity include nausea, poor appetite and weight loss.

Boron is often sold in supplements that combine a variety of nutrients. For example, it is found in products for bone and joint health that often combine such nutrients as vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, soy isoflavones, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, curcumin, boswellia, gelatin, ipriflavone, SAMe and others (see monographs on these substances). There's no evidence yet available that the therapeutic effects of boron are increased by such combinations." http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdr … 0040.shtml

I greatly appreciate your practical advise on this website and agree that we must all begin to think for ourselves. And thank you very much for your email!

In response to your questions:

Can i start taking the coconut remedy now, so i can stop the diflucan medicine?

Coconut oil and coconut products are considered to be food and can be taken anytime, with diflucan or without diflucan. People usually stop taking medicine whenever they feel better as a general rule. This is how we can know. I believe eating fishes (they are high in amines) have somewhat antifungal properties also. Amines generally decompose into a weak ammonium compound which have antifungal properties.

A couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide 3% such as 3 drops in one glass of water plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda may also help. Is the borax to kill the fungus or to detox the flouride? The borax does both killing the fungus and detoxing fluoride.

i just started the borax treatment today. it was scarry but i did it. i am having some mild kidney pain, i think from the candida in the kidneys (i dont know) i think the candida may be growing in my kidneys.

Usually 2-3 times a week should be more than sufficient in general. Magnesium may also help.

It is important to monitor urinary pH to get it near 7.0 at the very least. Fungus generally dies off nearly completely when pH is fairly high such as pH of 7.5. To get those numbers, I would generally prefer a lime and baking soda remedy. (then drank my apple cidder vinegar with baking soda). i am young, 44 years old. i used to look like i was 60. i have my real body back. i am beautiful again. thanks to you. i am happy. it is hard to know the truth though. the melevalent nature of things. but it was much harder living with the disease of the epithial cells. it was sooo very painful. as you can imagine, these cells cover all the internal linings, including ducts in the body. it is labled "lupus" in serious stage) (very inervated areas that are very sensitive.) horrific situation here. but i am strong. i am going to fight as hard as i can. i did not deserve this pain. a am almost pain free now. my PH is in better range. i am going to add the zinc glucanate and magnesium gluconate as soon as i can. i am going to get PH strips since this element so very important. i dont have much money. i am nurse out of work due to illness. but i will find a way. i am going to get PH in range of 7.5 and keep it there untill i am well. then let it go to 7.0 and see what happens. there is a old saying in literature that says "physician heal thyself" i think it was by father of american medicine hippocrates. i am not sure but i am going to see who said it. but this is so true in reality of this life. trust needs to be shifted to own brain to heal ourselves.if logic is followed, the answers are there. thank you TED, you are a beautiful human being. with a beautiful mind. i want to read everything you write. is there more somewhere? i wish you love and happiness always"

Ted replies, "Dear Cheryl: I am happy to hear of your feedback on the lupus/mycoplasma being gone! Zinc need not be taken too often just enough so that the body can function smoothly.

It is important always to keep the pH in alkaline and most people I have seen can lead a normal life. It is important to especially mention that certain food contraindicated for lupus are usually the steaks, white bread, sugar, vegetable oils and cheese. I am very much anti vegetable oils as we are consuming too much when I think I should concentrate more on essential oils.

I believe always keep the eyes on the ball, in this case it is the baking soda (alkalizing pH close to 7) and the borax. Two of the most critical remedies for lupus.

It would make me much happy if more people know about the lupus remedy."

READER QUESTION
5/29/2007: Margaret (mekvista2@earthlink.net) from Vista, California writes: "I have used small doses of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)for some time now and find it very helpful in controlling acidity. I monitor saliva to make sure it stays alkaline. ..I would like to know if anyone has used borax as a bath and if boron/borax is a viricide as well as a fungicide."

READER QUESTION
5/25/2007: Jan from Utrecht, Netherlands writes: "Ted I bought and used borax externally on my feet foor athlete's foot and in my crotch. Used to spray h2o2 in my crotch which made the skin very slippery ( fungus ? ). Now with borax there is no slippery anymore on a wet skin. Question 1; is it safe to use borax this way ? I also use Borax ( pinch in water ) internally to kill the fungus; is that okay ? Then you wrote some place that borax harmonises the hormones and does increase testestorone in male's. This seems to be true .. i feel a jest in my seks-drive ( nice :-) ). Than 1 last question; you write that borax chelates fluoride from the body. My experience is that using the borax makes me very clearheaded, removes a fog and fatique( due to fluoride ? ). Can you tell me more about the chelating-aspekt of borax for fluoride .. perhaps there is something to read about this. Thanks in advance for your reply and also thank you for all the information. p.s. I also use your suggestions with Backing soda to correct ph, it works. I find that when I use it that I feel the stress in my body dissapears and I feel more relaxed ( great ). Also mix the backing soda with vitamine C .. great !Jan"

Ted replies, "Dear Jan: Yes, borax can easily be used for external applications, and in tiny amounts internally as it is an essential mineral for human nutrition.

Slippery is reduced with borax as a result of killing fungus. Hydrogen peroxide is not really effective without using the borax also, needed to effect the killing.

Yes, borax does increase the male testosterone (and improves sex drive) and it helps considering nearly all the consumer products today are nothing but pseudoestrogens. There were some feminine behavior found in male animals, with the resulting excess use of insecticides, on vegetation which leads sometimes to hermaphrodites (two sexes) and other problems in fishes also.

Fluorides causes cloudy and foggy brain as well as a badly messed up circadium rhythm that accumulates in the pineal function. Boron or borax form is essential in my opinion for normal circadium rhythm and pineal function caused by excess fluoride and calcium accumulation in the pineal gland, which increases with advancing years due. It is one of the biomarkers of aging, and hence, an antiaging medicine if you can remove those biomarkers. Fog and fatigue is related to fluoride accumulation.

Alkalization such as baking soda does remove the stress and cause the body to be in a relaxed state, but it is also an causes the acidity of the vitamin C, which is a prooxidant, to be an antioxidant, as the body's alkalinity increases the antioxidant of the vitamin C. This is an important aspect to antiaging. In presence of the body's excessive organic acid, the body's production of sodium nitrite gets destroyed too easily and as a result, the body also goes into high blood pressure, as sodium nitrite, is the major precursor produced by the brain's glial cells in controlling the blood pressure. If the body is sufficiently alkaline enough, the nitric oxide (from the body's natural production of sodium nitrite) are utilized better utilized for repairs in certain pockets acidity, instead of the entire body, which the body does not have in sufficient amounts. Nitrites, or nitric oxide if better utilized also increases the body's immune function as well.

The basics of medicine is all there without the need for expensive pharmaceuticals, just that many cannot make the connection."

READER QUESTION
5/22/2007: B writes, "Hi Ted, I read your recommendations regarding lupus with much interest. My cousin recently died of lupus and I have been experiencing many of the lupus systems for quite a few years now. However, I have been diligent in taking my supplements and most of them correspond to your list of recommendations. I think this might have saved my life thus far. However, lately I am constantly sick, with severe allergies, aching all over and now my muscles, especially in my legs, seem affected, also my heart and lungs. I also have sharp, stabbing pains intermittently in my head. The joint pains are almost gone since taking the baking soda and MSM. I would dearly love to kill off the bugs causing this, but I am SO AFRAID to take the borax, and this seems crucial. We were taught that borax is highly poisonous and should never be ingested. I researched the internet extensively, and all I can come up with is POISONOUS. Please advise me and set my mind at rest regarding this, as I would like to add the borax to my regimen, as you stated that this is very important. I know you are very busy, but I'm sure other sufferers might also have this question, so please reply asap. Thanks for your hard work, dedication and the willingness to share with us. May you be richly rewarded. Many thanks, B"

Ted replies, "Water is also poisonous if taken in large amounts: one woman drank 5 glass of water in a radio program, if I remember correctly and died a couple of hours later.

And if you read some supplements, of mineral and vitamins lately they use "sodium tetraborate" or another word for it is borax. I was brainwashed just like everyone else, but fortunately I was trained as a biochemist and found that the body needs them in small amount and boron or lack of a better name, borax, is crucial to a lupus recovery.

There is currently no reported deaths from borax use, although there is plenty of deaths from lupus, more than I care to remember, including my own friend who believed in the best of conventional medicine (she was rich and believed money can buy everything). The lupus dissolved her entire reproductive system into a bucket jelly blood when she went to the bathroom, and died shortly afterward.

Whether borax is safe or not appears to be the dosage. Let's see, flouride is at least ten times more toxic than borax, but yet many people use it everyday in toothpaste. How can you explain that? Its toxicity is a bit less toxic than cyanide, and arsenic toxicity is close to flouride. Not only is fluoride NOT an essential mineral, but yet boron or borax IS an essential mineral. Take for instance drinking water in Israel, is several milligrams per liter of water. Most fruits are about 1 mg/liter of borax.

The issue is the toxic dose of Borax is between oral rat LD50 2000 mg - 3000 mg/kg. The salt (sodium chloride) toxicity is 2000 mg - 3000 mg/kg. LD 50 by the way is the amount of dose necessary to get a 50% chance of a rat dying on a per weight basis of the animal.

I am not going to push you to try anything including borax or your decision to do anything. But you must come to realize a point in time where your logic rules, not what is been taught but what you think works for you.

It must be understood that the "system" doesn't like to see you cured, suffering is a lot more profitable to both drug system and "the system" and it only pleases the "system" that population control, which is the primary goal of today's system be enforced, stealthly.

I can never go directly against them, they are just too powerful. And yes, I get hassled, threatened more than I care to remember, but I am doing the best I can to get the information out as gently as I can imagine without ruffling too many feathers. The best I can say "this is this" and "that is that", but if I go any further, I get into trouble too.

All I can say is in my own experience getting alkaline enough and even a small amount of borax has the similar toxicity to salt in terms of LD50 and remains the key to getting lupus recovery. Those who do get cured, don't post them directly they also fear because of so much "publicity against" borax use.

The ONLY published death against borax use is NOT borax. It is boric acid from accidental poisoning as the baby accidentally ate the boric acid. The baby more likely died from acidosis (from the strong acid of boric), rather than the boron, in my humble opinion. Boric acid is in fact much more toxic than borax.

You decide. So far everyone I know is benefiting, but that's just my own experience. I am out on a limb more than I care to remember when I post earthclinic. And believe me, I know a lot more than I care to post because there so much information pollution out there, including wikipedia. The war stories of me is just too overwhelming even to scratch the surface.

If in deep doubt I will always take much less say one tiny grain borax dissollved in a swimming pool of water just to make a fool of myself. Or perhaps, with little more confidence, maybe just one grain in one liter of water, which is a bit less ridiculous, then if need be maybe just 1/10 of whatever I think I used might be someday, safe. It's the same story ten years ago about hydrogen peroxide and colloidal silver, during the early heydays of the internet, when remedies were first introduced. The reason why we CAN'T CURE ourself is we are simply too dependent on a system which we believed to be benign, but personally I believed to be malevolent, and once you begin to realize this then you will know that what you have been taught is either all wrong, or our own mind has been divorced from ourself.

It takes only a simple observation and some basic rules of chemistry for me to write up hundreds of remedies in earthclinic and the reason why I can do that, is simply we have been conditioned not to think, but to follow rules. Some people spent their whole lives following rules, and the world they live in looks nice, and it is tempting when you are offered the "blue pill" or the "red pill" as in the movie Matrix. Once again, you have to decide, which do you want, the blue pill or the red pill?

Ted

p.s. Try to consider taking chlorella or chlorella/spirulina supplements at least 5 days out of a week. You may have forgotten this one. However the bugs won't die if borax is not used, sorry to say."

READER QUESTION
4/16/2007: Entise writes, "Ted, Hi. Just wanna ask if the BORAX you always mentioned in Earthclinic is the one used in laundry or is there a food grade BORAX? Please enlighten me. I deeply appreciate what you're doing in Earthclinic, more power to you."

Ted replies, "If the detergent has only borax, since the amount taken is low, most people would use that.

Food grade or pharmaceutical grades, 500 grams are available from scientific sellers, and chemical supplier, or a chemists, but most people find the difficult to obtain them. For me, I get them from a chemical supplier.

In practice taken in small amounts such as a small pinch are generally do not have problems. Most contaminants I found actually don't come from those, but from common things we consume everyday are more toxic such as tap water which have more contaminants."

QUESTIONS/COMMENTS/FEEDBACK

Main MenuHomeNewsletter SignupMind-Body HealingPrayer-MeditationSearch Earth Clinic SupplementsContact Us Top 5 CuresSore Throat Acid Reflux BoilsSinus Infections Overweight Top 5 RemediesApple Cider VinegarHydrogen Peroxide Oil Pulling Coconut Oil Fountain of Youth More Info
Disclaimer | About Us | Privacy Policy | Contact Us | Search

Copyright © 2007 Earth Clinic, LLC
All information contained herein should not be used as a substitute for the advice of an appropriately qualified and licensed physician or other health care provider.

Thanks Sinaptix for that info!

Update on the Borax consumption experiment:

I only mixed a small bit of it (only the amount that would fit on the end of my finger) with about 10 ounces of water. I consumed 4 doses of this in a day and a half.

I started experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort near the end of work on the second day of the experiment. I wasn't sure if I could attribute this to the Borax, but it seemed a bit more than coincidental. I am conjecturing that it messed up the PH balance in my GI tract. One noticeable effect was that it loosened my stool considerably, but not to the point of diarrhea.

I fell down the stairs Monday evening (unrelated to the Borax...), and it seemed that the Borax decreased the amount of bruising that was effected. It may have even reduced recovery time.

I don't recommend that anybody injest this orally. If you want additional boron in your system, I would purchase the isolated mineral from a healthfood store. Better yet, get a balanced mix of a wide spectrum of minerals.

My next experiment is going to involve fulvic (not folic) acid. I have taken it before, but it was mixed within a vitamin/mineral liquid solution. It very much assists in the assimilation of nutrients, but is rather difficult to find by itself. I came across a large bottle of it at a garden store not too long ago (it's used to help plants assimilate nutrients... they're more important than humans...). I'm going to try small doses of it (it's labeled as a "poison" as well) with meals and see what happens.

These are quotes and recipes from Dr. Hulda Clark's book 'The Cure For All Diseases". This is addressed towards people who are chronically ill as a strategy to avoid and remove common chemical toxins in order to unburden their bodies and immune systems. Borax figures heavily as an alternative...

Clark wrote:

Don't even use soap unless it is homemade soap (see Recipes) or borax straight from the box. Borax was the traditional pioneer soap. It is antibacterial and can be made into a solution. It is also a water softener and is the main ingredient in nonchlorine bleach. Borax can remove grease, too, and some stains. But even borax is not natural to your body and it is therefore wise to use as little as necessary.

Home cleanup: You may keep your laundry supplies: borax, washing soda, white distilled vinegar, bleach and homemade soap. You may keep canned goods, tools, items that are not chemicals. You may move your chemicals into your garage.

For cockroaches and other insects (except ants) sprinkle handfuls of boric acid (not borax) under your shelf paper, behind sink, stove, refrigerator, under carpets, etc. Use vinegar on your kitchen wipe-up cloth to leave a residue that keeps out ants.

Recipes for Natural Body Products

You can use just borax (like 20 Mule Team BoraxTM) and washing soda (like Arm & Hammer Super Washing SodaTM) for all types of cleaning including your body, laundry, dishes and your house! You don't need all of those products you see in commercials for each special task!

Even if you have dry skin, difficult hair or some other unique requirement, just pure borax will satisfy these needs. A part of every skin problem is due to the toxic elements found in the soaps themselves. For instance aluminum is commonly added as a “skin moisturizer . It does this by impregnating the skin and attracting water, giving the illusion of moist skin. In fact you simply have moist aluminum stuck in your skin which your immune system must remove. While borax won't directly heal your skin or complexion, it does replace the agents that are causing damage, so that healing can occur.

Borax Liquid Soap

Empty 1 gallon jug
1/8 cup borax powder
Plastic funnel

Funnel the borax into the jug, fill with cold tap water. Shake a few times. Let settle. In a few minutes you can pour off the clear part into dispenser bottles. This is the soap!

Easier way: use any bottle, pour borax powder to a depth of a ½ inch or so. Add water. Shake. When you have used it down to the undissolved granules, add more water and shake again. Add more borax when the undissolved granules get low. Keep a dispenser by the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and shower.

It does not contain aluminum as regular detergents and soaps do, and which probably contribute to Alzheimer's disease. It does not contain PCBs as many commercial and health food varieties do. It does not contain cobalt (the blue or green granules) which causes heart disease and draws cancer parasites to the skin. Commercial detergents and non-soaps are simply not safe. Switch to homemade bar soap and borax for all your tasks! Borax inhibits the bacterial enzyme urease and is therefore antibacterial. It may even clear your skin of blemishes and stop your scalp from itching.

For Laundry

Borax ( ½ cup per load). It is the main ingredient of nonchlorine bleach and has excellent cleaning power without fading colors. Your regular laundry soap may contain PCBs, aluminum, cobalt and other chemicals. These get rubbed into your skin constantly as you wear your clothing. For bleaching (only do this occasionally) use original chlorine bleach (not “new improved or “with special brighteners , and so forth).

For Dishes

Don't believe your eyes when you see the commercials where the smiling person pulls a shining dish out of greasy suds. Any dish soap that you use should be safe enough to eat because nothing rinses off clean. Regular dish detergents, including health brands, are now polluted with PCBs. They also contain harmful chemicals. Use borax for your dishes. Or use paper plates and plastic (not styrofoam) cups.

In The Dishwasher

Use 2 tsp. borax powder pre-dissolved in water. If you use too much it will leave a film on your dishes. Use vinegar in the rinse cycle.

In The Sink

Use a dishpan in the sink. Use ¼ cup borax and add a minimum of water. Also keep a bit of dry borax in a saucer by the sink for scouring. Don't use any soap at all for dishes that aren't greasy and can be washed under the faucet with nothing but running water. Throw away your old sponge or brush or cloth because it may be PCB contaminated. Start each day by sterilizing your sponge (it harbors Salmonella) or with a new one while the used one dries for three full days. Clean greasy pots and pans with a paper towel first. Then use homemade bar soap.

Shampoo

Borax liquid is ready to use as shampoo, too. It does not lather but goes right to work removing sweat and soil without stripping your color or natural oils. It inhibits scalp bacteria and stops flaking and itching. Hair gets squeaky clean so quickly (just a few squirts does it) that you might think nothing has happened! You will soon be accustomed to non-lathery soap. Rinse very thoroughly because you should leave your scalp slightly acidic. Take a pint container to the shower with you. Put ¼ tsp. citric (not ascorbic) acid crystals (see Sources) in it. For long hair use a quart of rinse. Only citric acid is strong enough to get the borax out, lemon juice and vinegar are not. After shampooing, fill the container with water and rinse. Rinse your whole body, too, since citric acid is also anti-bacterial. All hair shampoo penetrates the eye lids and gets into the eyes although you do not feel it. It is important to use this natural rinse to neutralize the shampoo in your eyes. (Some people have stated that citric acid makes their hair curlier or reddens it. If this is undesirable, use only half as much citric acid.) Citric acid also conditions and gives body and sheen to hair.

Skin Sanitizer

Make up a 5 to 10% solution of food grade alcohol. Food grade alcohols are grain (ethyl) alcohol or vodka. Find a suitable dispenser bottle. Mark it with a pen at about one tenth of the way up from the bottom. Pour 95% grain alcohol (190 proof) to this mark (for 50% grain alcohol or vodka make your mark one fifth of the way up). Add water to the top. Keep shut. You may add a chip of lemon peel for fragrance. Use this for general sanitizing purposes: bathroom fixtures, knobs, handles, canes, walkers, and for personal cleanliness (but use chlorine bleach for the toilet bowl once a week). Always clean up after a bowel movement with wet toilet paper. This is not clean enough, though. Follow with a stronger damp paper towel. This is still not clean enough; use a final damp paper towel with skin sanitizer added. After washing hands, sanitize them too, pouring a bit on one palm and put finger tips of the other hand in it, scratch to get under nails, repeat on other hand. Rinse with water.

I've found some of these tips to be practical and useful. There's an adjustment period getting used to washing with borax but I did it successfully. I've always lived with other people who were not with the program so I've never completely followed this protocol. I don't necessarily believe all of Clark's conclusions about parasites and all that, but I think her book is really useful for identifying toxic hazards in a typical home and providing less toxic alternatives. I should note there's a lot more recipes in her book. When I was first introduced to her work via reading the CureZone a few years ago, I was able to find the complete text to this book on a website.

Following all of this I think you will have a much more plain natural look, which is weird now because everyone is using products in their hair, dye/bleach, 5 yr old girls whering tons of makeup etc. I've especially used it as liquid soap/body wash and AFAIK it's worked out great. I think the commercial laundry products often work better, but maybe it's only that I have been effectively marketeded to and indoctrinated...
