Cool, thanks!  I'll have to check out Zanzarah!  My brother actually got me hooked on the Fairies game.  At first, I had "trouble" with it 'cuz I was like, "What sick kind of person would do that to a Fairie?!... Do the jars have holes so they can breathe?!"  hehehe  'Course it's just a game, but I love seeing my brother's reaction when he thinks I'm actually serious.  It's one of the birthrights of a little sister, methinks! hahaha

It's funny during the introduction to that game.  Toe Jam says "And we've landed up THE most INSANE planet in the galaxy, Earth!"

Yeah, the whole perspective of that game used to just crack me up and the music too!  My brother and I used to bicker over who got to be ToeJam, but I usually lost and had to be Earl.  Earl used to drop parts of the space ship and "get tired" and not do what he was supposed to do and stuff... (Edit:  Just remembered that one of our game controllers was bit wonky, thus the problems with Earl! )  I swear it was just another excuse for my brother and I to insult the crap out of eachother, indirectly of course. hahaha!  Ahh, good times, good times, indeed

Oh, and I checked out that Fairies game, and I love it!  If you're into fairies, I strongly suggest Zanzarah.  It's a game where you slip into another world, and collect fairies.  The fairies fight each other (which is the action portion of the game), but they do it on the astral plane and don't die.  They just lose energy and slip back into our plane.  Here's a Wiki link:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanzarah

Life is dark enough....do we really need to further program ourselves with morbid, dark games where people shoot up other characters, blow shit up, and tangle with demons and stuff?  Those kind of games (to me) kill the kid inside people.

I completely agree.  That's one of the reasons I prefer adventure games, where the idea is to solve your way through a mystery-- not blow your way out with a gun.  I got really into RPGs for a while, but realized it hurt to kill that much, even graphically.  Of course, I've always been a softie, so I know that has something to do with it.

Chuckie Egg, Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy were three games I played to death when I was a little kid on my Sinclair Spectrum!

In my teens I had an Amiga and got hooked on dozens of games including Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Super Cars, Stunt Car Racer, Kick Off 2, Lemmings, The New Zealand Story, Sim City, Speedball.

Late teens I had a PC and was really into a lot of graphical adventures, particularly anything by Lucas Arts such as Monkey Island. I was also hooked on Doom and Quake for awhile.

Although I spend most of my day using a PC, I haven't played any games for over 3 years. I'd love to get into some of the modern adventure games but they just end up sucking up too much of my time, so it's better that I don't even get started.

Games like that are +- like an movie or book, kind of
Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter...

Man there's so much more in the universe to experience. That's one thing I've learnt.

Actually, the escapism part I can understand....we all need a little fun.     But I just could never reconcile how violent and dark and negative so many "games" are.  Like, how is that fun, you know??  People don't even realize the self-programming that goes on with so many - if not most - modern PC and game system games.   I don't want to ruin the fun of this thread, but I just felt it should be pointed out so people can choose to consider that point, and maybe look closer at the "games" they're playing, and how dark so many of them are.   But, off my soap box now!
