There is a forum for Tolle followers http://eckhart-tolle-forum.inner-growth.info/. I like Tolle's teachings and have expanded into the area of non-duality or Advaita, out of a intense desire to know the truth about the self. The paradox is that the self as they describe cannot be known by the mind as the mind is only an appearance on the presence/awareness which is our true nature. The mistake of assuming an identity out of thought is the cause of all suffering. The now has no problems accepting itself.

^ Yeah that book is pretty much what started it all for me - it opened my eyes in a sense. A lot of so-called gurus are teaching essentially the same truth and you start to wonder if they've come up with their own ideas or are just parroting what others have said before, but I think Eckhart is genuine and I found the way he expresses his teaching particularly clear and enlightening. I still refer to the book sometimes if I need a reminder to live in the present.

In my opinion Tolle is among the greatest spiritual teachers alive today. I read "Power of Now" over 4yrs ago, said "yeah, makes sense" and quickly went on to something else. Later I went back and began to investigate the deep meaning he is trying to convey. I had to read a paragraph, meditate on it, read another paragraph, etc. He talks about the "pain-body", a thoughtform/emotion parasite that feeds on all humans. I already had the inkling that most of my emotional pain was being caused by something other than my true self. Tolle explained to me how the pain-body operates, how to see it when it "comes to feed", and best of all how to become immune to it. My advice to anyone is to read as much of his work as you can, read it very slowly, get his CD's or videos, he has a wonderful loving presence that is direct yet soft and mixed with humor.

This post is in response to an email sent to me by a fellow Noble Realmer.

Last week I picked up two of Eckhart Tolle's books, "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth." I've been reading them simultaneously, and even though I'm only about halfway done with them, I'm totally amazed by Eckhart's writing. I highly recommend these books! The message he conveys is very simple and very straight-to-the-point. There's no fluff involved here.

Eckhart's view on spirituality is very unique in that he does not appeal to your ego. In fact he does just the opposite. His books are a deliberate attempt to break down your ego and sense of self. Ironically, this makes the books a bit difficult to read. It's frustrating because the books are not "fun." Your ego will creep in and you'll want to put the book down again and again, and find something more "fun" to do. At least that's the effect they have on me. The real power of his books comes as an afterthought, after you've put them down for the day.

Since reading Eckhart's books, my outlook has already changed dramatically. It's become much easier to observe the ego in "my" self and otherselves. I see myself less as an individual and more as an instrument of the Tao, the Beingness of existence, the Isness, the Source, and so on. Every life is an expression of this force. Think of the Force from Star Wars. Yoda had it right all along.

Anyway, check Eckhart's books out if you're looking for something new to read. You won't regret it.
